That is why I do encourage anyone signing up on this forum to have access to their mail, you know sometimes people uses guess mail where they wouldn't want to revealed their real to the system. Even as that using mail that we don't have password makes it very difficult for you or me to restore back our account except we have the first wallet details then we may request to sign a message with the first address associated with the account by so doing if you don't have access to original mail then admin will assist you get back get back your account after meeting their criteria.

One of the most important things about an account is its password. As we are humans we can make mistakes and we can forget so we should take these things seriously first so that we don't have to face these issues later. If own device has private access then we can save our password through that device but on Google. If we save the password in Google, if we forget the password later, Google will remind us of that password, so that there will be no problem with logging into our account later. Another thing is that since we use the forum regularly, if we regularly log in and log out of the account, we probably won't forget our password. In addition to keeping notes of private information online, we will also keep notes offline so that if there are too many problems, we can solve the problem by looking at the offline notes.

People usually set up their passwords very weak and easily remembered to themselves because they would like to use passwords with information relates to their birthday, family member's birthday (like of wife, husband, children), and they reuse it over many platforms.

Weak passwords can be brute forced easily. How easy to brute force a password will depend on computational power of hacker's device.

Are your password in the green is updated with 2024 computational power of hardware used by attackers.

Thanks for bringing up an excellent topic. This was essential for me as a new member. We sometimes go through different periods. Sometimes, I forget simple things due to negligence. It's a simple thing to remember, but we forget it. Later, I faced many problems and could not use many personal accounts. I used not to write passwords and faced this problem. So don't make these mistakes anymore. I write down any passwords I need in my diary. I saved my password, and now, there is no more stress about forgetting or losing it. Although it can be reset and recovered if you forget the password, the best way is to store it in a safe place.

Password systems have become more complex, and security is much better. With Password, now it's completely safe to turn on 2FA. If a password is given, a login is impossible without a 2FA code. It is very secure. Keep 2FA enabled with an account password to keep it safe.

Goodnight, ohh Leo!!! 🦅
I use an offline password manager to save my Bitcointalk password. I also know it offhand but I do not totally trust my memory because sometimes you can forget what you think that you can not forget. But I have not seen a reason to use forgot password because I know the password.
Well, that's actually the opposite for me. There's a certain metrical pattern of numbers/ letters and special characters that almost gets interwoven through all my passphrases... It never the same thing, but in a way, it's impossible for me to forget it. Amnesia isn't a thing to not reckon , so eitherways, I've got some documentations.

Keep your content shortly please. When you write a wall of text, in unorganized way, readers will feel uncomfortable in reading and might give up in the middle.
OP was just out to educate others on the little experience. How was he expecting to get a mail from BTT on an email that's not registered on his device?

Use a decent password manager and use complex random passwords. Your password manager should be multi device capable and of course sync properly between devices. If it has tools to enter such complex random passwords for you, there's no need to use weak human friendly passwords.

Do no re-use passwords between various accounts. If one gets hacked, all other accounts are likely compromised sooner or later. You might not get to know which account got hacked.

Use the 2FA option to further secure your Bitcointalk.org account (use it whenever the account provider allows to use 2FA).

Stake a Bitcoin address you control and sign a message from it to prove your ownership. There're threads for this purpose here and in local sections.

Take the quality of your passwords seriously. Look at lists of top-used (and leaked) passwords, those are so embarrassingly bad, that I have to question the mental sanity of its users.

Email is another option that I have. I know the password of my email also and I also backup the password of the email someone. I link the email to another email and phone number so that if I forget the password of the email, I can still retrieve the email account using my other email or phone number. If you are the privacy type, you can use just email for the recovery.

You're absolutely right saving our password offhand is not really good because sometimes you can easily forget them. however I think it depends, there are some people who have their password offhand  and they always remember it. I think the reason why most people find it very difficult to have their password offhand is because they don't have a specific password, they use different password in multiple account if you only have a specific password there's no way you're going to forget it, let me use myself as example I only have one specific password that I use in all my account, I have it offhand and I don't think if I can forget it so easily.

Payment Gateway Allows Recurring Payments
Thanks for creating this thread, it would be a great help to newbies, who will understand the importance of email now, as how important it is in order to recover your account, so they will keep their email safer now. A few days ago I read a thread, where the OP was sharing his story about how he lost access to his email also. At that point, I was not sure what the procedure would be to reset the password AFAIK I had not reset my password yet if did then I don't remember the procedure.

But thanks to you for this thread, it reminds me now Well, we all should keep our password and email saved somewhere in hand written form although keeping data in such form is very hard, especially if there are kids in the house, most people will say use the safe, but I don't have any of my own yet haha. So, till then I will memorize it.

You wrote a wall of text but I can summarize it as follows.
  • You forgot your bitcointalk account password.
  • You click on I forgot my password, to recover it, but it does not work. You did not receive any email to reset your account password.
  • Today when you click on it, it works.

Keep your content shortly please.

I have to read OP twice to understand what he was trying to say then I found this is what he is trying to say, the forgot password option didn't work when he clicked and today it's working so he created a guide how to recover account using forgot password option.

Don't use any random email and if you did then I recommend you guys to change to new one that you have access to do the whole recovery process will be lot easier and instant too because the alternative is to recover account via staked address which could even take months to regain access to your account.

In this case, a user must save his Gmail account so that if he forgets his account password later, he can access his account again using Forgot Password.

It would be best if the user keeps a separate note of his account password along with other important information such as Gmail while creating the account so that he doesn't have to be harassed later.

On all the times that I change my password here on Bitcointalk for security reasons, I never encounter such issues the password to reset your account always works if it is not at that time you have to wait for a few minutes for a site like Bitcointalk with so many members there will always people who change their password often and if there's an issue on the forgot password it will be posted on meta.

Bitcointalk's security features to secure one's account are good now compared to the past, the most important thing is to secure your Gmail account because this is the place where you can confirm that you want to change the password, employ all Gmail security features to safeguard or any email that you are using that is attached to your Bitcointalk.

Advice
  • Use strong, unique password for your forum account, and email account.
  • Turn on 2FA for your email account, and it's good to turn on 2FA for forum account too.
  • Always backup your passwords, 2FA activation codes

Email is the best method to save your password, many of us are very lazy in time-saving passwords if not you can save it when you want to log into your account for the first time when you are logging in will show that save the password and after you click it the password will appear in any website you are using to login, and to save your password even when you lost your phone, find a paper write the password down and hide it in anywhere you will find it any time you need it, I don’t know about some people but I have a paper where all my password is being written.

Sometimes it’s dangerous to save your passwords on paper because if anybody sees it and knows that it’s an important thing they will want to login, but I think a BitcoinTalk account password is not something that can be easily get unless you tell someone. After all, it is not a password to a wallet that someone can touch your Bitcoin, my advice is to use an email to save your password or find a piece of paper and write it down because sometimes even email passwords we forgotten too.

The Alliance Of Bitcointalk Translators - ENG>PID
I've actually seen a lot of users on the forum, creating new threads as regards the account recovery since I've been in the forum. And yes I know no one is above errors but I really think that they might have been a little carried away and not being more careful with their btt account password and details. I've also feared the day I would loss or forget my password but I know deep down within, that the password and Gmail I used for my BitcoinTalk account cannot be easily forgotten by me. Why? That because these are words I use in my everyday life. I alone know them and thus I cannot forget them that easily. My Gmail account has been the one I created for a very long time and thus I've always used it for any thing I felt is very important so I won't misplaced or loss access to them.

Another method I had been using before was to always log out and login back on the forum every time I visited the forum. This way, you will get used to the password so you will not forget them easily.

Perfectly said, Normally we are not suppose to be using forgotten password any time that we want to login into our account is not really good because sometimes the site will be seeing the person as a scammer which is not good, however will should always try I much as possible to remember of password because is very important to us.

Just as you said eliar saving your password or documents in your Email is also best so that Incase of if anything should happen to you phone you we be able to recover them back without losing anyone.

When I forget my account password after creating an account, I naturally try to recover the password again through Forgot Password on the Bitcoin platform like on all other platforms. But a few days ago I failed to recover my bitcointalk account password with forgot password. Then every time I try to go to the forget password option I have failed every time and at one point I thought maybe the forget password option won't help to reset a user's password. But the positive thing for me was that I saved my account password in an important place and by looking at that password I was able to login my account later. But today when I again click on the forget password option to view only, I see that the forget password option is actually working.

I am using two screenshots here for everyone's understanding and discuss those screenshots in detail below.

Currently, if you go to the Forgot Password option, first you have to give your account username or Gmail for which you want to reset the password of the account.
After giving username or gmail you must fill I'm not a robot captcha then you have to click on submit. When you click on submit then the second screenshot out of the two screenshots that I have given here will show exactly on your screen  you will get a mail from bitcointalk in which they will send a link and by entering that link you can easily reset your password.
In this case, a user must save his Gmail account so that if he forgets his account password later, he can access his account again using Forgot Password.

It would be best if the user keeps a separate note of his account password along with other important information such as Gmail while creating the account so that he doesn't have to be harassed later.
