I'd imagine quite a lot due to all the business opportunities on here & signature campaigns etc. I'm not even sure how an official valuation would be put on this forum any way. I mean who officially owns it? Is it public property? It's not a company website etc so who owns it? Who could prosper from selling it? I'd imagine theymos can't sell it. Is Satoshi even still alive?

The OP is a difficult question, I'm not sure if there is anybody official who could give an answer. This is all judt speculative.

A forum with income of > 100BTC/month is certainly more than that price!
Does anyone know which is the highest ranked forum in the world?

According to https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Internet_forums*, it is somethingawful.com.

* Rranked according to post count.
Never heard and not even ever opened that forum.

i think it was worth more in the past, now it's a bit less, if it wasn't for signature campaign you would see almost no traffic here and many newbie are just alt of hero member that feed themselves, instead in the past especially with doge, there were numerous genuine new members

This is so true until price of btc goes way up and all the new people and returning bitcoin ppl come back.

this got me thinking.. who have the right to sell bitcointalk? do the trustees or/and the community council members have to vote too?

Even if it gets sold, the old and new owner can simply decide not to make the takeover public. As long as the forum keeps running like it always did, people won't notice anything.

There is much more money invested to this forum than those numbers alone. We haven't seen the million dollar software upgrade in this forum yet, so that adds up to the value of this forum, not to mention that this forum alone gets a huge number of traffic per day. The forum also holds a large number of user base. Those prices are low, tbh.

I wonder what they will spend 1 million on? Seems like a lot for a forum upgrade.

A lot indeed. Added functionality, security, and other features should be expected on this million dollar forum upgrade. The due date already passed but we haven't heard anything again in regards with the forum upgrade. If you want to check out the developments with the forum upgrade, see here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=167.0

If someone bought the forum i would probably stop using it or start using it with caution, the buyer could have malicious intents and he could do a lot of bad things if he was in control of this forum

The additional traffic is actually good if you're a buyer, you can flood the site with ads and make money

Assuming each of the 8 paid ad slots get 2.5 BTC per auction then the forum would get 20 BTC per auction period. If you were to assume ads would stay up exactly 10 days at a time then its revenue would be roughly 730 BTC per year. After deducting moderator payments it would have 547.5 BTC leftover, hosting is covered by one ad slot to PIA. I am not sure how much the forum spends on things like security bounties, capital expenses, DDoS protection, but I figure it would be no more then 10% of revenue. That would leave 474.5 BTC in profit per year.

I am not sure what an appropriate discount rate to use is though. Even though the forum has been around for several years now, I think it would be considered a small business for valuation purposes (plus it has solidly under $1,000,000 in annual revenue). Stable, more established small businesses might fetch valuations with a 30% discount rates, while other more risky businesses (especially those in controversial industries) might fetch valuations in excess of 100%. I don't think a 100% discount rate (or higher) would be appropriate for the forum though.

This would value the forum at somewhere between 527 and 1580 BTC.

The forum is not currently very monetized as theymos could easily increase revenue of the forum without major distraction and still keeping the forum a desirable place. I think the reason he doesn't do that is because he thinks of the forum as belonging to the community and it would be difficult to reinvest that much money into the forum or to the Bitcoin ecosystem.

Sorry for my English if It is Bad✌✌
those estimation sites are absolutely worthless and by no means an indicator.

traffic & google/alexa ranks are nice, but the userbase alone is worth way more than that.

Yeah you are write. Those estimations are only software based

While looking in other sites, according to Webuka bitcointalk worth  341 784 USD and according to worthofweb it goes a huge up to $38 Million dollar which seems preety crazy  Grin

PLOT TWIST, 10K... BITCOINS.

Pd: that would be almost 3 million the current prices.

Even at a 3 million evaluation I'm not sure selling would be best long term.  If they can justify such a large portion of money to upgrade, then there is proof of a continued use of site.

There just is not another site like this out there  in bitcoins. It is unique, and unique brings money.
