Why so much people call DOGE a scamcoin? I mined like 1m of them for free on the beginning, and if I want to sell it right now I would get 1.2 BTC (~800$). So where is the scam? Did I miss something?

People call most altcoins scamcoins, when most aren’t. Shitecoins, maybe, but not scams.

Does anyone know what really sets this coin apart from the rest? I haven't read/heard anything particularly interesting about it yet. Any help would be appreciated Smiley

Nothing does, it's just a joke based on a meme so that's where it gets its popularity from.

haven't seen an alt coin with so much dev and miner support in last five months. Bought 2 million yesterday, should have bought 20.

This thing is going to 50 million market cap in next two weeks. First real speculative coin since Quark and Mega crapped out.

Ok, so people believe that DOGE is cheap right now, and they confident that investing in it make them rich. So price will go up.
More people will come and buy because they will think: "so many people can't be wrong, I don't want miss that train". Community is very strong, they mine it like crazy and they force Cryptsy to add it after only 10 days of existance. Right now market cap is 9,5 mln, you think suddenly, out of the blue they will just dump it?

@Peter Lambert
All cryptos are worthless and all started the same way but with some hype around it they suddenly scyrocket.
DOGE have army of fanatics who truly believe they can reach 3-4 market cap. This is very interesting sociological phenomenon.
Price is set up by people, right? I will just sit and wait, I don't have nothing to lose here anyway.
I know about capabilities of some alts but for most people it's irrelevant, it's all about speculation.

make sure you pronounce it the correct way to get the full effect of what this really is: "dodgy-coin".

Is this how it's pronounced? I guess it makes sense but I've been saying it as doughe lol.

I would also like to know about the "official" pronounciation Wink

Well that means a lot coming from a scammer.

As far as I know, there is no official pronunciation, I just find dodgy to be the most descriptive. "Doughe" - I don't even know how to say that, there is no English equivalent. Are you trying to say "Dough-y" like "doe-ee", or maybe to rhyme with rough or cough or slough (either of the two different ways of pronouncing it) or though or through or bough? Or are you trying to say like rouge or rogue? I guess the 'e' could be silent and you could just pronounce it like dodge, or you could pronounce it doggy, they do use a dog in the symbol?

Kinda rhymes with rogue. So sounds exactly like rogue but starting with a D  Cheesy.

I agree it brings nothing new, but is there any alt that truly bring innovation? All are pretty much the same, and all are made for pure speculation.
I'm not a fanboy or hater I'm just curious why DOGE can't reach let say 100mln market cap? If there is people who will pay the ridiculous price for DOGE why stop them?

Namecoin acts as a domain name registration.

I have not researched them all, but there are some (at least one, I assume there are more) which do not reduce the mining reward over time. Ripples do not have mining at all (call it 100% premine if you want).

make sure you pronounce it the correct way to get the full effect of what this really is: "dodgy-coin".

ct37 you are right, the real problem is that actually some people want to buy them! And on top of that, people keep sending deposit to Cryptsy!
It doesn't even matter how much is worth because the is no direct FIAT exchange, it's based on BTC, it's the same old scam to exchange shit for actual BTC. It won't last much..

I do agree. It brings nothing new to the table. Nothing we've already seen with other coins. It's just a hype. I would also suggest to sell them before the price drops.

And before somebody says "wait until it peaks, then sell them all", these things can drop off rather quickly. If there is a flaw found in the software or even if somebody decides to cash out a large amount the price could drop precipitously. Or it might just start sliding as the hype wears out, and if you keep hoping it will go back up a bit you will be left holding the bag.

I dunno, I have been having issues with mining. Pools randomly stop working. I have been using two different ones because of it. Usually have luck that way.

This is what I am running into.

It is not really a scam any more than any of the other altcoins. Ask yourself, why would anybody buy some dodgy-coins instead of feathercoins or peercoins or ixcoins or heffercoins or ripples or sexcoins or cattcoins or litecoins or bitcoins? What does it bring new to the table? If there are problems that show up in the software, do you trust the developers to fix them?

You mined them for free you say, why would anybody pay you $800 dollars for them? I call bubble. You should sell them now before their price drops as people realize how easy they are to get and how massively many there are.
