You can either donate 50 BTC to become a VIP or PM theymos asking to change your username (although he rarely accepts such requests nowadays).
Is it some of "easter egg" in forum rules? 50 bitcoins? Grin

As for the 50 BTC is also a measure to curtailing the idea of requesting to change your name if it were freely done. Though this was there when the value of BTC was not that much. However, we can conclude that it is now the measure of preventing redundant request.
50 bitcoins? You're must be dreaming. With this money it can fork Bitcointalk and make a button "to change nickname" for free for everyone

Change of name is not a thing to worry about here. People who changed their names had reason to do that and it was granted them. If you feel like you want a change of name, you put a request with tangible reasons to do so and if you do not have any, the other alternative to getting your request done is there so why the tantrum. Do not forget that most of the people who had their request granted have had a great impart on this platform over the years that they have been here and that reason is enough to accord them their request.
It's all clear. No one will change the nickname of ordinary mortals. Changing the nickname is only possible for nobles.
And one request to change the nickname will not be enough. It must humiliate yourself and beg for something for a long time

This is some kind of money scam. Some users change their nicknames for free, while others have to pay 50 bitcoins? Are you seriously kidding?

Nobody has bought Donator or VIP memberships for the past 7 or so years. The last person to buy one was "Claymore" (and that was only because he struck gold with the Ethereum EthHash miners he developed.)

If we ignore him then the last donor/VIP was from even more years ago, as I doubt anybody was willing to spend 10-50 BTC on a membership in 2014-2016.

Change of name will be nothing but waste of time as the case maybe, secondly, change of names will definitely lead to abuse such that some people will see it as fun and play with the button everytime they feel like changing the names for no meaningful reasons.

As for the 50 BTC is also a measure to curtailing the idea of requesting to change your name if it were freely done. Though this was there when the value of BTC was not that much. However, we can conclude that it is now the measure of preventing redundant request.

What's wrong with you? No one forces you to pay 50BTC and the other free option has been communicated to you. Have you acted accordingly? Rhetorical question, I don't need your answer.

And guess what, there's another solution which is free and immediate: create an alt account with your desired name if that is available and not in use by someone else. You should be able to bring your alt account to same activity and merits, I guess. And maybe take your time to think a second or two about your desired name.

Though, I wonder how you got your past merits from the way you act in this topic.  Roll Eyes

P.S.
Corrected myself after inspecting OP's posting history... Anyway, he'll censor and delete my post, pretty sure of that.

When I joined the forum I didn’t know it was practically impossible to change your display name and wish I had chosen something different. I have only seen members that are high ranking and have a lot of trust have their name change approved so I’ve never bothered to send a request. I also don’t think disliking your name would be considered a valid reason.
I'm sure that most members just hurriedly chose a username when they were registering in the forum and they later thought of more befitting names for themselves. Personally I was thinking that it'll just be an easy process to change one's name like as it's easy to change passwords but I noticed that it's not so. Anyway I've not had any reasons to change my username, besides this is an anonymous forum and I don't think that it's necessary to change usernames. The forum rules is what it is and if any member wishes to change their usernames for any reasons they'll have to follow the procedure, it's that simple.

This is the same as saying that the admin does not consider such applications at all.
It turns out that  "The Pharmacist" has a privelege for it? The admin chose him specifically and chose his application specifically.
And what about the rest of the people? Are they shit for the admin or something?

The user you mentioned waited a long time for his request to be fulfilled, but some others changed their name on the forum several times because they had some good reasons for such a request. Some wanted to avoid someone imitating them on some social networks, some wanted to start over with a new name and leave the past in the past.

If you have a meaningful reason for changing your name, all you have to do is send a PM to the admin - there is no reason to be aggressive in any way because that will certainly not help you.

It used to be 50 Bitcoins and Theymos kept it that way because other wise it would be unfair to the people who paid 50 Bitcoin back then.  And also because I believe he is very keen on keeping this Forum focused on Bitcoin and not on Fiat value.

If you have a very serious matter I believe he will approve your request.  I get that 50 Bitcoins are a LOT of Money nowadays, but it would be stupid for Theymos to handle silly requests.  I would also prioritize and work solely on serious requests if I was him.  Other wise, all of us would constantly bombard him and waste his time.

Anyway.  You only have around 100 Posts and are Member ranked.  You can simply create a new Account and start from there with the Username of your choice, it does not take long at all to get back to your Rank.

-----

To change your username:

1. Log in to your account.

2. Go to the "Profile" section.

3. Look for the option to change your username (it may be labeled as "Change username").
And if you want Theymos to spawn an unicorn behind you:

1. Log in to your account

2. Go to the "Spawn Me An Unicorn" section right next to "Profile"

3. Click and wait

This is one of the most shit shit post I have ever read.

The quote above goes back to 2014 and until 2018/2019 it was impossible to change your username and the only time it happened was a famous scam case where the member was trusted because @admin changed his/her username (I don't remember the link to the case but it is related to @atriz)
So until 2019 the quote was correct but in recent years many members changed their username, some of them are unknown so if you have a logical reason or related to privacy your username will be changed

Send 50 btc and buy the VIP membership, you can change your username by yourself.
You must be crazy

"The Pharmacist" didn't pay any 50 bitcoins to become "The Sceptical Chymist"

This is some kind of money scam. Some users change their nicknames for free, while others have to pay 50 bitcoins? Are you seriously kidding?

Their request was answered because they had a convincing reason and their impact on the forum speak for itself.
Busy, I  doubt Theymos would neglect a PM by a user That has really contributed to the forum and can be vested for by the public.
About the 50BTC is an option, and was created when Bitcoin was barely valuable and they haven't seen any reason to update it for reasons unknown.

If you plan on changing your Nickname Send a PM to Theymos and see how it goes

Some people here have nickname and I have been looking for how to set my own in my profile but there is no option to set it and also there is no option to change your name in the profile settings so I think that to be able to change any of them one of the forum administrator needs to do it.
But is there any need to change your name apart from when you want to add a nickname ? Because it will not make a big difference since it's almost the same thing and people already know you with the former name.

I have not had that thought of changing my forum username for any reason, but then I have read on a few thread how some forum members have been able to change their username in the past and I think the process is not that hard I think with just a pm to the admin you can get a name change, although the time frame for your request to get processed is somewhat not certain it could take a long time to get through and it can comes through within seconds so timing in name change request is not subject to speculations. Only the admin have the final say.

If the admin should approve all name  changes in the forum, it means his major job would be changing users names because endless messages will be flooding his DM.
If you have any special reasons of changing your username, feel free to pm him. In recent time he has changed the username of some users in the forum.

There is no need for making a request on changing ones username except if very important and there is enough reasons enough convincing to make such a request, just as it has already been said, there is no chance of having such request granted by hundred percent, if such is freely allowed, many will abuse it and become unpredictable by changing username like chameleon, i don't think its something one should bother about.

The admin will not fulfill your daily desires related to changing your nickname. Before asking the admin to change the nickname, you need to think about how good reasons you have for this. And I'm more than sure that The Pharmacist had good reasons for that.

This procedure of nickname changing is a complete extortion for 50 bitcoins

Nobody said that you need to mandatorily pay 50 bitcoins. It's just one of the options.
The other option, as others have already mentioned, is to PM theymos which is the "free" option.
Although it's completely theymos' choice whether to accept your request or not.
May be you need to prove whether you are worthy of the name change.
The Sceptical Chymist was definitely worthy of it and got the request approved and you can try your luck too.

Please have in mind that, it was at the time when 50 bitcoin was not even $50 value. These days there are nothing to pay to get the name change, or donation.
Nowadays, forum no longer needs donation. So the only way for non-VIP users, is to send PM to theymos.

For grandfather old era VIP members, they can change usernames by themselves but most of VIP members already abandoned the forum.
