Pay 50BTC to become a VIP, and then be able to change your username there.

Or, have a good reason for theymos to take time to change it manually. I doubt this will happen though - it rarely ever does. You might need to have contributed to the forum, but don't quote me on it.

Is this really how expensive it is just to change your name on a forum. Who, in the right mind, would do this? I just don't see the point of doing it, you can just make a new account, can't you?

I've seen Theymos do it on rare occasion. Mostly in situations where he only needs to shorten the name. Not change it altogether.

That being said..I wouldn't be upset if he changed my name from 'koshgel' to 'kosh'  Grin

Do you get any special perks when you are V.I.P? Other than being able to change your name.
If you donate 10 BTC, you can get a special "Donator" title and a green "who's online" color. If you donate 50 BTC, you get VIP status and the ability to create a custom title for yourself. Both Donators and VIPs also get access to an exclusive forum section.

As to OP's question, this pretty much sums it up:
Pay 50 BTC, become a staff member or befriend theymos /thread

The only way I know, is pay 50 BTC to this forum and then you can change your name. There is really no point in doing this unless you are like a legendary with really good trust. Even then it is not worth it at all. Just make another account if you don't like your name. Do you get any special perks when you are V.I.P? Other than being able to change your name.

That's true...
But then, why the prices of accounts here have changed a lot and came down based on price of BTC???
Why these accounts here are being sold way lower???
Why they consider ROI from signature campaigns rather than the value of the account???
It should still be more than BTC0.4 - BTC0.5 per Hero Member which are being sold under BTC0.3...
First of all, account sales aren't managed officially by the forum, like donations are. Account sales are done by anyone who wants to sell an account, so the price is all due to supply and demand. As signature campaigns lower their rates, accounts sell for less. As more accounts pop up for sale and there are fewer buyers on the market, account prices drop as well.

The forum does not price BTC in USD is why that has not changed. 50BTC is 50BTC regardless of the current $$$. I really doubt they will ever change the amount as it would not be fair to the people who paid it.

They make you pay 20k. Interesting. Well, this forum will need some shaping up eventually if they want to keep their followers.

No one forced a member to register with a random name then asked him to pay in order to change it..
Even with the new low cost donations (in the future?) i am against offering this service to them.

why they didn't reduce that 50 btc thing for changing your name, if possible? we are not stuck in 2009-2011 anymore

bitcoin now has a certain value, paying 20k for changing your nickname it's insane

If the forum operator reduce the 50 bitcoin to 10 bitcoin, they might get more donations. None of the people I know can afford more than 10 bitcoin.

This idea was discussed many times, even theymos is aware about it and already made a related post, look here: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.1673380

So is that a money making business for the forum? How do we make sure the VIP behave properly?
I don't think forum donations bring in much money for the site anymore, it's pretty rare to see a new Donator or VIP user pop up. Much more money seems to come in through the advertising auctions that theymos regularly runs for ad slots on the forum.

Pay 50BTC to become a VIP, and then be able to change your username there.

Or, have a good reason for theymos to take time to change it manually. I doubt this will happen though - it rarely ever does. You might need to have contributed to the forum, but don't quote me on it.

We don't.

One of them 'allegedly' stole millions of dollars worth of bitcoin due to a 'hack' which resulted in many, many people losing money on a site he controlled.

I'm not going to type any more though, the info is around if you look hard enough.

In short - We just have to hope that uber early adopters & people trusted on here can be trusted. There are several examples where DT has failed though too.

It did happen on rare occasions, but it was for done in the case of estabilished members and for a good reason.
just a question, what was the reason behind (former) katsou's name change? im assuming there had to be a really good reason.

Check katsou - the cunt rant theif who ran away with 5m redds but now goes by the name --Encrypted--

what are the requirements? Can someone please tell me?

They have paid 50 BTC to get VIP status, so they can change their username freely.
