just to clarify (you guys lost me somewhere on page 2)
1. I have my private key for my bitcoin i had before the fork
2. i move my bitcoin to another wallet (paper or otherwise)
3. i import my private key from the original (now empty) wallet into a wallet or exchange that supports bitcoin cash
4. my bitcoin is safe in the new wallet, while my bitcoin cash is in it's own wallet ready for me to do as i please once it has been verified
am i understanding this correctly?

Thats how I understood it but I am not an expert.

Here is how I did it, using Windows 10 and Internet Explorer.
I cannot guarantee that this is safe, but it worked for me.

1. own some Bitcoin on papers with public and private keys before 2017-08-01
2. create and print new Bitcoin papers with public and private keys by downloading this software and going offline:
https://bitcoinpaperwallet.com
For precaution, delete the software when done, and restart computer to flush memory
2. create an account at:
www.kraken.com
3. create an account at:
www.blockchain.info
4. login to account at www.blockchain.info and transfer your BTC from old papers to new papers by clicking on:
Setup -> Addresses -> Import address, and enter the old paper address.
Then click on Send BTC, choose the old address, enter the private key, enter the target address for the new Bitcoin paper and confirm.
I used the priority fees, and a transfer took about 15 minutes
5. The old papers now only contain BCH.
Download Electron Cash (Electron-Cash-2.9.2.exe)
www.electroncash.org
8. Login to your account at kraken.com, click "Funding", choose "BCH", and click "Generate address"
6. Open Electron cash client and click on Tools -> Network.
Untick the checkbox "Select server automatically", right-click on electroncash.cascharia.com and click on "Use as server".
Click on Wallet -> Private keys -> Sweep, and enter the private keys from the old papers only containing BCH
7. As the private keys are imported, wallet balance should increase
9. Click on Send, enter your kraken.com BCH address and the amount to transfer.
I used the default fee.
10. Wait for 20 confirmations. You can check the progress by right clicking on the transactions and click "View on block explorer"
For me, it took about 8 hours.
11. I chose to sell the BCH for EUR on kraken.com (since I believe they will eventually loose most of their value)

Good luck!

I heard electroncash is not safe at all..

I still search for a spot to import my private keys for bch. I prefer an app for iphone like there is coinomi for android. Somebody knows any?

Thank you so much for the information. But why do they write "BTC" instead of BCC or BCH for the Bitcoin Cash?
For instance https://blockchair.com/bitcoin-cash/address/16cou7Ht6WjTzuFyDBnht9hmvXytg6XdVT

paper wallet holders

You can check your paper wallet for bitcoin cash amount inside it by going to the following website:

blockchair.com

and at the very top search bar paste in your paper wallet public ADDRESS and

it will show you have bitcash in that paper wallet. It's up to you what you want to do with it.

Why sweet this costs money simply import the key. To move BTC you have to pay but then just import the empty wallet which still holds you BCH.

Alright so this is what i did:

1- Swap your BTC from the paper wallet with BLOCKCHAIN (found out its the one who has the smallest fee).
2- get COINOMI wallet app, select BCC (Bitcoin Cash) and scan the same paper wallet.

Thats how i got the Bitcoin Cash and in a separated wallet my normal Bitcoin...
from there you can move it around of course to trade and everything but u have to keep in mind there will be fees. Wink

let me know if worked for you guys!

I'm still  confused. Do I import twice: once to a Bitcoin Wallet and a 2nd time to a Bitcoin Cash wallet?

Again move away your Bitcoins to a new paper wallet first !!!

This is just a precaution if you end up with a manipulated BCC/BCH wallet all your Bitcoins are gone. This can happen manipulated LTC wallets have been seen in the wild they replaced them on the webserver!

Also once the private key got used on an online PC it is best practice not to use it anymore.

I claimed mx BCC/BCH and did some test transactions with a board member here, see Electrum Cash thread.
