It is never too late. The price is low now, and Bitcoin is far from mass adoption.
Having that said, no one can tell the future and so don't put more than you can lose in bitcoin (or any investment)

Faucets can be profitable.. long time ago, i earned 0.1 BTC from a faucet.. value was a few cents.. but look now, it's almost 40$
So even if you see small amounts now, it can increase a lot later.

+1 @ Hashfarmer, given that those are free, you can try to gamble it and if you're lucky, you can win a lot

The only way I can see how to make money from this is to buy when it's low then quickly sell when it returns upwards which it usually does. You can play the markets like this but it's always risky.

Since bitcoin can be exchanged for other currencies it is as easy to obtain for free as any other form of money is. Generally faucets only pay a fraction of a US cent and really are not worth it unless you are just getting started or online goofing off anyway. Do you like filling out captcha's? If so, by all means, go for it. I like the gambling sites, many of them have faucets and you can chat with other players while you wait for the next drop. Just don't beg, begging is annoying.

It never was free. It was just a lot cheaper.
Even in the early day that you can mine bitcoin effectively with CPU and GPU, miners were still paying the electricity bills for mining and don't forget the bitcoin price was just a tiny fraction as of now.

There is no way of easily benefiting from the price drop. Buying is risky but history shows the price will recover in all likelihood... all about risk and reward...

If you expect the price to drop in the future, you can take a leveraged short position.
After seeing a price drop, if you expect the price to go back up, you can buy some bitcoin or take a leveraged long position.

If it was free, then why don't they just sent us free btc, without us doing some work for it?
but no, they want us to do somewhat to get the 'free' btc, so it isn't truly completely free, I think
