Basically, thread based notifications will be replaced with PM notifications.

Yup , I saw that and that is bad news to say the least Roll Eyes i prefer checking a single thread to see the notification than having to go through the messages, another problem would be other important messages, they can be lost among the bot's messages, I think i will start using telegram for that, and then Mute the bot so that it does not disturb me when i am busy and then i can check it later on, but this will require Telegram running on my PC and not on a mobile phone.

Did this bot send mail if your quote is part of a multi quote?
The bot didn't send any notification via email. You might misunderstand this quote
you can also enable notification on your mention topic so that you will get an email every time your name is mentioned.

After all, the newest change of the Bot made the notification only able to be received via PM and Telegram. Therefore we could receive an email every time someone mentioning if we use PM based notification. Also, the bot does notify you within any multi-quote.

I am alive but in hibernation.
I have been using the mention bot by piggy for quite sometime, i was surprised that only a few (82) members are using  it, probably because most people don't visit meta too often.

Actually I know about it and still do not use it. I like to manually read my post again after 3 to 4 days and re read the whole thread.
If it look that I should reply , then I will reply (does not matter whether I am quoted or not.)

A change is going to be introduced in the coming hours/days for those that receive @ Maggiordomo’s notifications on their thread in Archival:

<…> There is going to be a change for what concern the notifications within the forum, we are moving from Thread to PM, since the PM limitations for Maggiordomo have been lifted.

Using a thread for the notifications was also interfering/messing up the "show unread posts since last visit" as theymos told me.

You don't have to do anything for this switch and you either receive your notifications through PM or Telegram (  as before )

Is probably going to happen sometime tomorrow.  Smiley <…>

Once a man, twice a child!
I had wondered when such a direct notification facility would be enabled in a forum like this as I have seen it in some other cryptocurrency fora not as half as big as this forum. Good a thing it's already even here but why we didn't get to hear so much of it before now is a surprise. Perhaps because it's not a Merit/Redtagging adventure and no whinning?

Anyway, there is also the bitcointalk ANN notification on telegram. It has been a great experience using that facility here @bitcointalkanns

Make it 83, I just signed up woo Grin  Can't believe it's been 8 months since Piggy released it.

It literally takes two minutes to set up, it's funny though...how something so small but useful you can delay in time and not do it just of pure laziness.

. As for spammers the bot will be of no use for them simply because they don't really contribute to any valuable discussion.

I think even spammers may be benefited by the bot.
If they ever say something reasonable, they will be quoted and notified. This is incentive them to answer that notification and probably say something reasonable again

That's a very helpful bot but most people don't know about it because they don't see any post about it and the forum administrators hasn't made any official announcement about it.
The bot is not an official forum solution, but rather @piggy’s witty contribution to a feature that was asked for, and could be resolved externally to the forum itself. It is not likely to be announced officially, especially if the code is not controlled by the forum itself.

I’ve been using the solution since September 2018 and it works very well. I’m using the solution that requires a thread on Archival (not the Telegram solution). For some reason, I don’t always get the forum’s email notifications. That means that I may not receive a notification related to a given the posted message from @Maggiordomo (the bot’s forum account), indicating that I’ve been quoted. To overcome this, I normally leave a tab opened on my browser with my Archival notification thread, and refresh it every now and then in case the forums notification didn’t get through.

I've been meaning to set this thing for a while now. I'm lazy and search for my username every other day (manually) and quite often then not i'm late to reply when being mentioned or whatnot. I'll try to get it running in the next couple of days. Promise!

What's the point of using the bot for them while their post isn't constructive.

Well, they can always get a notification ahead when someone reports them for plagiarism or ban evasion. Grin

Well that is valid reason but i can't possibly think that there are only 82 members who would make use of the notification bot, it is a great way for people who enter some discussions and need to know if other members have asked them a question or notified them about a mistake they made somewhere. As for spammers the bot will be of no use for them simply because they don't really contribute to any valuable discussion.

People didn't know the bot because didn't regularly visit Meta is a viable reason. But, I'd think some people are here only to spam and doesn't contribute anything to the forum. What's the point of using the bot for them while their post isn't constructive. I mean they won't get any notification.
Anyway, I'd appreciate you for posting about Maggiordomo bot, so it could help the bot to get a wider impression.

Now people don't need to go to their post history and scroll down a page or two to see if someone has replied/quoted their message. For newbies if you are looking for a healthy conversation I think this one will be helpful for you since you won't be left out or you won't let someone hanging waiting for your reply. Honestly I just knew this now and I know others are feeling the same way when their post got left out without someone replying to them so if you are really interested in the topic just link the thread to Maggiordomo via PM with the subject "subscribe" and you will be notified with replies to you.

Anyhow, those who don't know Maggiordomo  are missing a lot. Grin

piggy's bot will notify you when someone replies to any of your posts or mentions your name without quoting any of your posts, the bot can also be connected to telegram and you will be able to get instant notifications on your telegram.

you can also enable notification on your mention topic so that you will get an email every time your name is mentioned.

here is an example of how it looks.

This is the link for the bot > https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/beta-mention-notification-bot-open-for-testing-now-with-telegram-5023605

instructions are as easy as A,B,C and if you have any questions feel free to ask here or ask the bot owner piggy
