Just like others mentioned. The person receiving the paper wallet has no clue if the private keys of the wallet has been compromised while being delivered to him. Again, what if the person who you have sent the paper wallet has no clue on how to use it and gets destroyed in the process? There are many other ways to gift bitcoin, but gifting a paper wallet isn't the wisest thing to do to be honest.

The best way to gift bitcoins is to gift them in a hardware wallet in a festive Christmas package.
Gifting a hardware wallet with bitcoin already on it is an even worse idea than gifting a paper wallet. The person now needs to trust that you have securely initialized the wallet, correctly and securely copied their seed phrase, gave them the real seed, and aren't keeping a copy of it yourself. You will also be able to derive every address they will ever use. Not only is this a huge privacy and security risk, it also teaches them terrible security practices right from the beginning.If you must gift them a hardware wallet, gift them it brand new, let them initialize it themselves, and then send them some bitcoin.

If you'll be gifting to a person without knowledge about bitcoin and you want to introduce it to him/her it's better to give him physical stuff like shirts with bitcoin inspired design. If the person you'll be giving a gift is a crypto man, give him some bitcoin in his wallet, not on separate wallet it will be good for sure 
i agree using paper wallet is not really a good idea for gift especially to those who dont have knowledge in cryptosome crypto user dont even know how to use paper wallet or what is paper wallet
the real best way is to send them coin directly or give them physical stuff with bitcoin design

Do not pay attention to the fact that someone here writes that a paper wallet is an inappropriate gift. On the contrary, I think it is a very important, valuable and interesting gift. Gifting Bitcoin to those who aren't into crypto but know that the price tanked hard isn't a good idea. I did it once myself and had to explain constantly why the price kept going down while Bitcoin according to me was so revolutionary. Not doing that again. Common joes are hard to deal with, mainly when they think they know how things work better than anyone else.
Basically sometimes we need to be the one to initiate an information for them to know bitcoin instead of them just freely knowing it to the social media sites that could turn out to be negative when the information that they could get is based from frauds and scams occurred online. For me, the initiative to gift them even with just a cold bitcoin wallet such as cards that contains bitcoin is already an effective way. Especially if we are to give it to them during Christmas, it will be imparted on their mind that they received something unusual, and because of this, their knowledge about bitcoin scams could be turn out to a nice present and a bright future for bitcoin as well if ever the recipient becomes curious and starts to use bitcoin as well.

I used the black friday deal that Ledger had to buy a few sets of their Nano hardware wallets as gift to those who already own crypto, but are too much of a cheapskate to buy a harware wallet themselves. This way they can stop leaving their funds on an exchange and thank me later when they aren't victim of a hack or a rogue exchange not allowing them to withdraw.

Yes, but it's a very original gift.If I give bitcoin to someone for a holiday, I will offer one condition - to open this wallet in 10 years.I am sure that then they will remember me and thank me for the gift. I've learnt over time that it's pointless giving something you value to someone who won't.
Pretty much this. Isn't a gift supposed to be something the receiver will like, rather than something the giver likes? It'd be like me gifting power tools to my future child.I would never gift bitcoin as a Christmas gift, unless it was someone I knew was already interested or involved in bitcoin. I still speak to people throughout the year, and I'm usually more than happy to gift a friend twenty bucks of bitcoin to get them started and experiment with, but giving someone who doesn't want it as a Christmas present just feels tacky to me.

I'd never give a paper wallet myself. I've seen plenty of tales from people having relatives calling them up a few years after handing them over with no idea what's happened to them. Even if you back it up and keep it there's no guarantee they won't leave it lying somewhere for someone else to pick up and have away.
For my nearest and dearest this Christmas I will be using BTC to buy a gift that will transform their lives - 1 kilo of the purest Afghan heroin.
I'd also never give anyone a funded coin. There's absolutely no way of backing that up and they may inadvertently chuck it away. I've learnt over time that it's pointless giving something you value to someone who won't. There's no end to the slackness and disrespect they'll demonstrate towards it.

cool idea . i dint think about that . i didnt know that we can also put designs ( christmas designs ) before we print out the paper wallets instead of seeing old plain boring paper .

Oh my god! I don't know why you got this idea, but it's really a scary idea! Giving bitcoin is good, but not paper wallets, we have a whole bunch of security issues on a paper wallets. You can donate bitcoin in many different ways, a hardware wallet maybe is the best gift for your relatives. You should also choose a cryptocurrency whose future can bring big profits. I have no suggestion, because it's not my specialty, but if it's you, it's not difficult to choose a coin for gift, right? Good luck!

I don't think paper wallets would be a great idea, why not just send them some bitcoins when they are sleeping at night, it would be more surprising that way, and more safer than having paper wallets, it will save your time also, you just have to put some effort on sneaking in their room at night, scan their QR code, and there you have it, mission success.
I think this idea will be much better because the paper wallets because it's even faster and better though! I'm sure they'll be surprised in the morning when they just opened their wallets and they found some bitcoin on it. Like someone's anonym spoil them with $$ worth of bitcoin. Rather than giving kids what they can use in the future, better to teach them how they can use crypto right now by showing and spending it for them. It'll be better for time crypto community as genuine increase in the volume.

A paper wallet is a horrible way to gift bitcoin. The person who is receiving has to trust both your honesty and your technical capabilities 100%, that you haven't secretly kept a hold of their private key and that you have created the paper wallet in a secure fashion. Additionally, you guide says nothing about downloading the page and generating the paper wallet on an airgapped machine. Creating a paper wallet on a live website is the best way to have your coins stolen. If anyone was to gift me a paper wallet, I would be sweeping all those funds immediately. Better to gift them a hardware wallet and then send them some coins after they have initialized it themselves - doing so would also teach them a lot more about security, seed phrases, and so on, than simply handing them a paper wallet.

Absolutely. I can't even fathom the idea if giving someone a paper wallet. This is like giving someone a house and making a skeleton key to keep. I wont even bother about the trust issue. Lets assume you can trust them. Like stuff can happen. Where did they put the privatekey? Did they remember to delete after the gift receiver used the privatekey to restore a wallet? This is a terrible way to introduce people to bitcoin. They might incorrectly believe bitcoin is not secure. Rarther make a card for xmas and add 2 qr codes. The first is lead to a trusted and secure wallet homepage that is easy to download from. The next will be the the payment which you scan with qr code and receive. I know there is a website that lets you lock crypro in a qr code and it will add to your balance after scanning. This is what you want.

Don't make gits with a paper wallet as you can instead buy a sweater of Bitcoin logo with cool Christmas design as I'm sure everyone would love to wear one especially when the next pump will come. Another great idea for a gift would be some tokens or a cheap masternode in order to introduce them to the crypto world. If you have big money you can also buy some travels vacations with Bitcoin or even a miner.
That's pretty amazing, really aiming for that too, I am also thinking of some giveaways that I could give my friends, especially for those who are able to help me during those time that I am just starting, I am really thinking to have a mug with a logo of Bitcoin, so that they can be always reminded of Bitcoin.

It's quite unique but my problem in this kind of gift is that most of my relative and parents didn't know or let's say they didn't care about bitcoin and other crypto currencies. I even said to them if in case I will give them gift via crypto currencies, are you going to accept it and they frankly said that it's better if I will just give them fiat rather than headache in learning how to cashout the crypto currencies.
But I am positive that in the future, they can adapt the modern system of currency and we can easily use the crypto currencies in any form of gift that we like.
If his relatives / lovers are bitcoin users for a long time then it doesn't hurt, if he gives a bitcoin gift as a christmas gift then it's a good idea, of course he has bitcoin very abundant and very rarely discussed in this forum, talking about this, it was a decision him, it might be very difficult for us to see prices that are very unstable lately and very difficult to guess, so if it makes you good to give prizes in the form of bitcoin then that's his decision.

Here's the thing, in some countries they have some traditions wherein, they visit their godfather or godmother and received some gifts from them. And I think incorporating cryptocurrency in that scenario will provide them with new way of receiving gift. What if we encourage them to have their own wallet, and what we need to do is to scan it and give some bitcoin as a gift to them. In other sense, if they cannot visit us, still, we can send them our gifts and they could be the one to buy items from bitcoins we sent.
That was a very nice idea in which if they want to give a gift to their loved ones then they can create a online wallet or blockchain wallet so that they will just scan the qr code then transfer a money as sign of a gift to the incoming christmas, I hope this would be applicable to those persons who are really intent to give some things or gift in a form of bitcoin and etc. or maybe they can also give something that can commemorates bitcoin just like for example, a physical coin or token of bitcoin or ethereum or other coins that may resemblance to bitcoin, I guess the person that will receive the gift will be happy after he/she will get a physical coin.

It is really great to receive bitcoin as a gift. If someone is willing to give me bitcoin as a gift, I would love to. But me giving bitcoin as a gift is still a 50:50 choice for me depending on the person I will give one. Because I wouldn't bother to give people who doesn't know bitcoin because they might end up not appreciating my gift. And I won't bother teach everyone I'll be giving just for them to understand it. Unless they are willing to learn...
