it's not easy to determine how a project is a scam i had my fair share of loses my self but i had to minimize the damage bye talking a few precautions maybe they will help
if it's an airdrop coin or token join the airdrop just don't buy or sell untill you how the community acting toward the project you how honest the developer is by publishing a road map and sticking to it
if it's a minable coin and you see the project is promising and have some potential you can mine a few and watch how it's going.i hope that helps

Jumping on ICOs and brand new coins is terribly risky because is it impossible to gauge how dedicated the team is or if the their ideas will be well recieved ... Or even if they have the skill to code their ideas and market it successfully. Really, if absolutely you want to avoid "scam" risk, you have to stick with more established coins and projects, projects with a working prototype.

find established long term projects with durable proven devs with a good road map which is being coded out steadily over time and that has a real use case.

You should research on your own, see the altcoin team and developers, what the projects offer, try to join the community that will help you to understand the project, the roadmap. And Not all an altcoin clone and ICo's is bad, I recommend you visit alunacrypto blog, I'm sure it will help you.

Hi Gelie13, it is gambling, won't deny that but check a few things like: is it on the blockchain? If not, forget about it.
If you can't liquidate your tokens easily then forget about it as well.
Lots of them are Ponzi schemes. Be careful with the hype surrounding a coin.
A good coin should solve a problem, be on the blockchain, have a solid business model and with a specific target audience.
One last thing, if you read here and there that you should buy QUICKLY before it is too late, then be careful, this is typical of the scams who rely on rushed (and therefore bad) decisions.

There's a lot of new coin or token coming almost everyday and i experienced that some of them are having no value until now. So I'm asking now for me to determine next time the good one so that my exerted efforts to join them will not be wasted. Thank you. Hehehe
