I heard in stocks, this is called shorting.  But i read if you short, you could lose a huge amount of money.  Could you do this with bitcoin?  Example my thoughts were hey its the holidays, so most likely ppl will withdraw money and thus btc drops.  So i figure around now, btc price would drop.

Yes its possible with cryptocurrency but you must know how to execute this one because shorting is really risky and your profit is not guaranteed. Most of the traders now are doing this, but not all of them succeed on this one so better to study first before you so this strategy. If you can’t handle the stress of trading go for long term investing, as I can see you don’t have enough experience in trading.

Im confused.  Shorting you say begins by selling.  You sell at higher price since you expect price to drop and then buy back at lower price.  Isn't this trading?
It can be seen as trading, yes.

The thing that is confusing here is you say shorting begins by selling.  Well let say you have no btc or altcoins.  How do you short then?  Doesn't it first you require to buy first?
In that case you have to find cash settled platforms. The pros and more experienced investors have platforms such as CBOE and CME to work with, while the more average retailers use platforms as Robinhood and eToro. I'm sure there are a few more, but most of them are unregulated platforms you definitely don't want to deal with.

I like to work with Bitmex because it allows you to settle your contracts in BTC against the US dollar, and have your contracts pay out in BTC, regardless of what coin on their platform you long or short. The advantage of not dealing with fiat on Bitmex is that you aren't subject to ridiculous KYC/AML measures you otherwise would be.

shorting is just a form of trading ,When you feel like the market is going to drop you sell your holdings and wait for a certain entry to buy back . that way if yhe market goes up again you will profit although the price could be the same as the one you sold at .
The opposite of this is going long ,When you buy and wait for the prices to go up. This is good when the momentum of the market is bullish and could make you way more money then shorting.

So? Will you buy bitcoin atm? Just as like you said, bitcoin now dropped to $3880 or nearly 7% from yesterday
I believe this is normal in one day and you don't need to worry much about the current market because I believe prices will soon rise again best. I personally believe that the market will start a new uptrend and everything will become more stable in the future
The 7% price drop over the last 24 hours is normal when we look from the outside but there are those who earn 5% per annum which is equal to millions of dollars. Also if you try leverage trading, you understand that this is not a small number.

Yes, you are right. If you buy now then you will get profits when the price goes up again, and that can happen after new year celebration! But you don't have to go through stocks to short it.

Shorting is very practicable in cryptocurrency, and there are very educative contents on the internet which can help you get a grasp of it.

Shorting is a trade, which begins by selling. You sell at a higher price (if you expect the price to drop) and them buy back at a lower price.
In the end you could hold the same quantity of bitcoins but have profits. Or more amounts without putting in more capital.

Actually you can short the market, that is what most of the institutions did with bitcoin a year ago when it touched $20,000, they shorted it, and they are now on huge gains.
But there is no sense to short now, you will lose money.

Even though the price of bitcoin is still very low, I still work to earn money and not at a great price atleast you earn money. and it's nice to buy a bitcoin but not to sell but to hold first and accumulate a lot of bitcoins and good to generate profits so even if it drops bitcoin still needs to continue to make money, do not just lose hope because it's a bit the day the bitcoin price will come back so I will wait until the price increases.

Bitcoin prices have gone down now, indeed to buy bitcoin is now a good strategy to generate profits,
All the time, this method works all the time as when bitcoin falls, the next action would be up, it's just important to determine the right timing.
but I think bitcoin has low fluctuations so it's a good altcoin for to buy, currently bitcoin is shorting and to make money you have to buy at a falling price and sell it only but you have to understand where the market will move.
Bitcoin is not an altcoin, it's the king in the crypto and the most dominant, people are shorting then they make money but who really cares if you are here for long term. Price action does not matter anymore, what's vital is the development and I see a good progress in development.

Well believe and the reality can be different, maybe if you are a long term holders then you don't need to worry about this dropping, but if you are a day trader then it really affect your analysis, I think its too risky to do shorting in btc, the price is very unpredictable, you may think that maybe people will sell their coins for holiday but if one of big whales suddenly pump then you can predict the wrong outcome

when the bitcoin price falls then you should be able to buy as much bitcoin as you can no matter what day it is, trading in stocks may have a different strategy than cryptocurrency trading so you should be careful when you want to buy coins when prices fall like this. and the most important is not margin trading which has a short and long scheme.

That's not the right mindset if you want to get as much money as possible. For professional traders bear or bull market is the place to make profits. However, margin trading (short/long) is very risky and prone to 'manipulation', especially when we have futures market that doesn't get backed by real Bitcoin. I'd not recommend any newbies or people who lack trading knowledge to do that. You can lose all of your money for a simple mistake.

What did you read exactly? Any kind of trading activities could lose you money, not just shorting.

Yes, you can short Bitcoin. There are lots of exchange that allow you to short Bitcoin, some example: Bitmex, Bitfinex, OKEx.
