Hello guys, I've been lurking quite a bit before making an account on this forum. I'm interested in increasing my rank, and I noticed something called merit, which we obtain by others giving it to us. I was wondering how this works, do you ask for merit, do people just randomly give it out? I am unsure on how this whole thing works
Just checked your activity and I noticed your first post is about merit. Merit isn't the most important thing here, your contributing styles, contributing ideas, contributing motivations makes you get that which you want.

Begging merit is against the rules rule, if caught doing that, you will be permanently ban from here, if here would be good for, take a time to study people's posts, read before you write and St the same time, contribute your ideas and you on the ride.

The guy just registered and already asking how to get merit. If you are such a “newbie”, that knows everything, then you know what is needed for forum (sharing experience, translations of news, seeking for for scam and etc).

Interesting to hear what for you need that merit. You can chat here without it. Or you need merit for higher rank snd to be able to get more reward from bounty? If bounty is what you seek on this forum, than you wont succeed in getting soon.

Frankly speaking merit is something people give through a quality post because when I was a newbies my taught was like you.

No body can merit your work without cross checking your work.
And only thing that attract merit is constructive text and also interesting topic in the forum so therefore I will advice you to observe how the seniors one's construct a better post.

If you  want to earn a merit read very well before responding to a topic and before posting your work
Avoid plagiarism.

Merit is base on hard working with quality post only.

To make it simple merit is giving by other members like for example to you take a look at it as a tip. The more tips you higher you get your going to rank up when getting the required merit.

It's not easy to get merit members is only going to give you merits if you have a constructive post or maybe if you help them in their topics. My advice was just to be active here in the forum eventually your going to earn merits. Ranking up is not really the focus of the forum but to share knowledge or learn from others.

. Focus more on improving the teaching of the blockchain focusing on Bitcoin as your main topics. Merits will definitely come if you are unique enough. My one cent. Cheesy

To be candid, you don't have to focus your topics on Bitcoin before you earn merit, neither making threads on Blockchain technology will give guarantee on merit on this platform, but be original in-all your contents. There is nothing to be afraid of, keep doing the right thing and the right individuals will be there for you with merit. We'll were onecs like you, don't be dumfounded being a newbie without merit, in due time they will flow in accordingly.

I will be straight forward I will ask you to go meta section you can find everything you like to know about this forum about merits and about ranking up, I did not post the link here, it's your assignment to look for it, one thing that you should be good at as newbie is to look for a subject because this is going to be something that you will be needing as you go on here.

Just a short note to earn merits.

Be creative and unique.

Some of the people today are making the same content day by day and those are going to be not updated every time by the OP. Creating a unique topic is one of the best ways to earn merit.

The common problems if you have good content but do not have merits.

In giving merits we have rights who deserve on it, if someone likes your content they can give merit, if they don't want still okay because they can choose who is the right one, still we want to share our smerits and don't hold this.

We have a merit source most of the time in our locals and this is a good thing to earn merit which is comfortable to the language you used you can easily express your thoughts.

Some of the members takes time to read before they make a content to avoid making duplicate threads, also to save your time.

We became very suspicious. Recently, I have increasingly seen alternative accounts that are registered after the first accounts have been banned.

According to our rules this is prohibited.

25. Ban evasion (using or creating accounts while one of your accounts is banned) is not allowed.[e]

25. If you get banned (temporarily or permanently) and create a new account to continue posting / sending PMs, it's considered ban evasion. The only exception is creating a thread in Meta about your ban.

Don't ask for merits let the merits comes to you for that you need to make informative posts or something useful to the community.I wonder why you want to increase your rank when you just posted your first post in bitcointalk.

We became very suspicious. Recently, I have increasingly seen alternative accounts that are registered after the first accounts have been banned. When I first came to the forum, interest in raising rank appeared after a long time. Beginners are usually interested in information related to the topic of the forum. And such "Newbies", who are immediately interested in raising the rank, can hardly be called Newbies.
It’s sad when you see that people are pretending and trying to deceive someone. Cheesy

That thing can't easily be acquired this time unless you have an effort to post quality and informative posts. There is also not a need to have a lengthy post just to catch the attention and it looks constructive, but if you can make it in one sentence or two that could be enough. I know some members are aiming to rank up but not seems to be important here, but the most important is of what you have contributed to the forum.

Don't chase those merit but instead, let it come to you somehow in the future.

Besides the references provided on this (and 100 similar threads), one can always resort to observing what type of posts are being merited, and derive a general idea from that observation (see https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=merit;stats=recent for example). The idea is not to copy anyone’s style, but rather to get a feeling of what is actually being merited on the forum, and from there, abstract an idea lead by example.

This is the best suggestion I had seen so far in how to gain merit. Most of newbies and even any ranks were having a hard time gaining merit, yet the real sense of merit in their mindset is absent. Recently for the last 120 days, I have received approx 43 merits not because I imitated how other people posted (its ideas and formatting style), but rather I've changed my mindset in what unique idea and helpful knowledge could I offer the Bitcointalk community. In that sense, I've learned that merits aren't given because of your being active, joyful, and kind on the forum, but rather because of the distinct approach/notion towards every post and/or replies a user make.

PS: I've seen that most replies here are common. No doubt why such comments are repetitive, because the main thread's idea is redundant as well...

Merit is  like likes on social media platforms. Here it is an endorsement for an excellent job done. Focus more on improving the teaching of the blockchain focusing on Bitcoin as your main topics. Merits will definitely come if you are unique enough. My one cent. Cheesy

Just to add: you don't necessarily need to teach about "blockchain" and create topics to earn merits. You could simply just normally converse with the people here and if people found you helpful, some might throw you some merits here and there. As far as I know I've earned most of my merits discussing some topics but not necessarily teaching.

I agree with you.
But then, we can`t share what we don`t have. That is why even we reply with our thoughts, if it is common to others you won`t received merits. If we read and read more about cryptocurrency, blockchain and other stuff related in cryptography, we can give the best comment and we can easily relate to the topics that discuss in this forum. Anyway, accumulating knowledge is better than receiving merit. Because merit is an incentive given for those who give time also to know the cryptography/forum.

All answers here are very educative, informative and easy to understand. Merit is like a reward you get from posting a useful and informative comment and/post on the forum. Asking for merit is totally wrong reason been that you are lazy and can not help in promoting the community, better still that you don't have anything to offer..check:  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/merit-new-rank-requirements-2818350  for more details about Merit

I can testify to this statement too, in addition don't try too much as you'll just appear desperate. I read replies that are as long as hell but makes no sense since unnecessary words or sentences have given another meaning to the post but they could have be simply summaries in 4-5 lines and would had made perfect sense.

PS: Don't follow the crowd, try to be different. Make your readers always wanting and looking forward to read your replies on topics been discourage, keep your writing simple.

For sure. While I'm definitely not to brag, I(and along with a lot of you here) could somewhat easily tell if someone created a topic primarily to share something, compared to someone who created a topic that's primarily to earn merits. Those topics that are full with highly technical terms but altogether makes little sense. Oh and don't get me started on those "how to earn merit" topics that are made by people who have little to no merit and those sort of "how to be a good Bitcointalk user" topics. One of my eyebrows instinctively rise when I see those kinds of posts.

To the best of my knowledge I know that you don't earn merits just like like that you can earn it through some of the reasonable post you make or some friends will send it for you but you can't earn it through the post you make here.

It helps if you have a broad knowledge of blockchain tech/BTC in general and helping others out/explaining some stuff a significant % of members had no idea of though. People may throw a lot more merits at you, as you've most likely seen with some members out here.

Otherwise I'd say it's mostly a subjective thing - if one believes you deserve a merit, they'll give it to you although maybe for others your reply is silly. But that obviously is the case only if you also spend a bit of time to think and construct your reply. My case is the same as yours - I earned most of my merits through discussions as well.

If someone gives you a merit, it means that he rewards you in some way because your post helped him or he considers it constructive.
It depends on the other members and is not an automatic action but their free will.
That's why I advise you not to think too much about it but try to write well, help others and if you succeed in that other members will reward you.
