They have always referred to themselves as "MtGox" or "Mt. Gox". According to the logo, the name of the company is MT. GOX. "Mt." is the abbreviation for "mount", so the name is pronounced "Mount Gox". Despite that, I vote to change the name to "Empty Gox".

Their logo says one thing but the origin of it insinuates another. Then again, Mark doesn't seem the brightest businessman in the world. Is there any interview where the name of the company has come out of his mouth? I want to see how he pronounces it.

if you really want to know how it is pronounced, I suggest you ask some cardplaying people...
mt. is usually the abbreviation for "mountain", but here it is obvious, that it stands for "Magic The..." ("...Online Exchange).
Here in Vienna we have a nice example of abbreviations pronounced differently than it is supposed. There is a big busline company which is called "DrRichard" which is written on the sides of the busses. Also in german "Dr." before a persons name gives you a "doctor". Well itsjust that the founders first name wasnt as much as promising as a title. His name is "Dragan"...

Long story short - it´s "em-tea gox".

don´t you worry too much. In 12 weeks there will be no more need for this knowledge anyway.

Then they should use M.T. Gox on their logos and branding and there wouldn't be this confusion.

I have never called it empty gox, because I learned about bitcoin whilst ignoring Magic: The Gathering.  I looked at their name and said "Mt. Gox" --One anticipates that people will be clever??  Are you saying thy ar not clever and truly just stupid enough to get a domain name and not read the abbreviations they create??  How could they be so ignorant as not to notice that their name is "mountain gox"??

So, you guys are telling me you've always called it "empty gox"?

Holy shit.  You just blew my mind.  Talk about predictive programming.

Mt Gox is a permenant fixture in bitcoin history, not just for the bad but also for the good, from the logo, site, and exchange existence.
He's young and likely has a million btc socked away in cold storage.  And even if he doesn't, with his intelligence he could amass another million before the end of the year starting now from $0

I've always pronounced it Mount Gox.

"Mt Gox" is pronounced "Bastards!"

I prefer the term 'rapebastards'.

Based on the video, you either read what you see Mt Gox = Mount Gox
or you say the acronym MTGOX  (Magic The Gathering Online Exchange) = MTGOX or M.T.G.O.X.   (Like we say FBI)

either way 'M T Gox' would be an illogical and inappropriate language usage unless Mt Gox identified themselves as such (which they didn't, see logo).

"Mt Gox" is pronounced "Bastards!"

Unless I'm missing why "Magic: The Gox" makes sense, then logically, it can only be M.T.G.O.X. or Mt. Gox.... unless you're looking to make a fantastic, subtle jab at 'em. I guess it could be like SATA.... m'tgahcks.

I always thought it was "Mount"

That's what they wanted you to believe. But it was just 'Magic the Gathering online exchange'.
And nowadays, it's simply fuckin' liars...
