In my opinion, no one dives into the first ICO, people  became more attentive and picky, less hope for the luck. I noticed that they began to study information in more detail when choosing a project, and this is good. With  prepared and understanding investors there will be less skam, and more life for the projects that are worthwhile. After all, because of the current situation in the ICO market people want, but afraid to invest that's why interesting projects can remain without support. I'm  working with the German project Vreo.io, maybe someone heard. I couldn’t find any competitors for project, that's one of the reasons why I belive in them. They are doing dynamic in-game advertising. They are going to create marketplace for developers and advertisers. t seems the product meets the gaming and advertising industries' needs. Here is their link at bitcointalk https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ann-mtc-token-sale-vreo-embedded-in-game-advertising-2886707 Telegram grp https://t.me/vreoico.
In any case, when choosing ICO, carefully read the whitepaper, there all the necessary information

The level of scam tends to rise with the passing of the months and as much as we do detailed research and follow a pattern of security, nothing is guaranteed if some project tends to be scam or not. With this before any investment, accompany the team and several references of the developer or manager, can be beneficial to a possible fugue of the project if it becomes a scam.

Dear friends! In social networks, there is a new type of fraud.Write in contact-help at a low price to cash Bitcoins.I have a lot of them ,and I need cash. You create a bitcoin wallet and they allegedly throw the cue ball there, but in fact they import their address there so that you can see how much money he has in his account, you can not withdraw this money in any way. Then the con requires a key and writes the desired Commission,a minimum of one cue or less. You send a Commission and your money is floating away.So be careful!.

Even if you have done your research on whatever ICO you have interest in. If you are still new in the system, do put all your investments into it and neither should you put your investments into one basket. Invest only your spare money and use that process to learn those things that might be new to you, most especially when it comes to investing in ICO.
If it succeeds, then you should be able to do the analysis of what made it to succeed and if otherwise, try to hypothesize the reasons.

First we need to know the nature of the scams, most scams only targets newbies but some are clever enough to victimize even seasoned traders specially phishing sites today. I suggest you bookmark legit sites once you visited them.

always check your wallet address each transactions specially if you will receive your coins because there are some cases that address changes as they copy pasted it during transactions which I think is a form of a malware just remember when it is too good to be true, take one step back and think carefully.

to completely protect yourself from the scam - do not participate in projects at all. If you have decided to participate in ico or buying tokens on the exchange, then be prepared for any situation. One of the options to protect yourself from scam - study the leaders of the company, their authority and status.

I think that there will be less SCAMs now. There're hunders of ICOs now and most of them don't even reach their soft cap. I've heard that it costs about $300k to organize a SCAM project. And as the number of investors is decreasing it'll be very hard to raise even such sum. In other words it won't be profitable to hold a SCAM project.

Do some research. Educate yourself. Get a complete information about the product, team, work progress, future business plans and legal authority of ICO before investing. Just do you own research and don't rely on other people's opinions.

Before investing in ICO, find it in debates on bitcointalk.org.  If the topic is not on the forum or the ratings of the rating users are mostly negative, it is better not to contact the project.  Use services like ICOtracker and ICOrating.  They can find all the information about the current ICO, the dynamics of their indicators and key events associated with the start-up.  But it's best to just choose projects that work with smart contracts.  And to diversify its crypto-currency portfolio, that is, to invest in several different ICOs.  This will reduce risks and increase the chances of profit.

It is necessary to check whether the company was exposed to an open audit. It is a good way to prove that the company has sufficient funds. Analyze the transparency and quality of the company's business processes. Don`t deal with exchanges and other companies that are not able to show their transparency and solvency.

You cannot avoid these scams especially when these people are doing it for a living, because these are professionals and you cannot see all the possible redflags from these ICOs,even those good looking team and websites sometimes are using fake profiles and you wont know what will happen to the campaign because nobody can tell whom or which one will scam people.

If you don't know how to determine whether an ICO is real or scam and you read their papers and it seems legit just check the person's behind the project, research on them and you will see some are really expert on their field, on bitcoin things, and check also some feedback of their projects.

Indulge yourself with knowledge, when I said knowledge you read? What would you read? The past and histories of the coins that have made it so far. What have they done to reach this height? You can read the past announcements of ICO that are now succesful, and you could see for yourself, track and compare them  to what are they have in common. Well that is if you are talking about ICO, but I bet yes since scams lately are most probably the cause of ICO. Don't trust too much, be careful out there.

The best way to stay away of scam is to check everything you can. And if you don't like something, just don't do it. I don;t give them a free pass. I have my checklist and if a project fails on any of the checkpoints, I pass it.

Before investing or participating any project make sure you have done the proper research about the project team, their interactions with know people. And most importantly from where team based.

I haven't really read about researching where the team is based? What's your experience with locations in that regard?

Their sole idea is to make profit and provide marketing services for ICOs, not to give you good advice nor provide investment consultation - this is the most correct fact

It can happen to anyone of us the thing is,its unavoidable because these ICOs are unregualted, part of decentralized community of us that is why these hackers are doing their best to get those investments from newbie investors. To lessen the risk of getting sscam you should do a lot of research regarding the team,if someone is hiding their identity its a scam surely.

A good start to avoiding being scammed is to be skeptical of everything. When you get an email immediately doubt the sender, check the address of the sender and don't click any links from it. Use bookmarks to ensure you don't get phished and do thorough research of every project you want to invest in.
