I thought that this subculture was gone
It isn't gone and never will, because there are always going to be people with emotional problems. It's so 2000s, but it isn't.

son: "Mom I am......"
mom: "What?"
son: "I am..........."
mom: "Oh no, do not tell me that you are gay!!!"
son: "I am emo.."
mom: "EMO?! OH MY SONNY I LOVE YOU!!!"
 Cheesy

Added: tell your mom that you fall in love to girl who is emo. And you want to be also emo that attract her attention Wink sure 100% that your mom will okay with your decision.
Are you Freemason? Your nickname says you are!  Huh

Is this thread serious? just tell them, i do not think this is a big issue
Yes, I'm pretty confident that this thread is absolutely serious.

Maybe you can slowly tell her like make random casual comments about emo benefits like additional distressing and making you more productive with you days.  Give her some good example then she'll be more open minded.
You are genius! I'm definitely going for doing it!! Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

Just tell them OP. Have a long discussion about it basically lol but parents will be parents and good luck!
You are welcome Smiley

Do you want to dress like an emo or what?
Of course, because I'm emo like I said before LMAO Can't you read? Remember you are interacting with emotional being.

Why do you have to tell them? Do they accept you as you are? Putting a label on yourself won't change that.
Because they wonder why I still use old Nokia phone (not because I'm emo or drug dealer, I just want to use best phone ever made), why I dress up like that and why I listen to this music.

Maybe they already know but they're just waiting for you to speak up
So how to do it as safe as possible? How to show them that emo music directory that is on my computer and that emo ringtone on mine Nokia 3310? And how to say why I use make-up and why I dyed hair? Yes, I live in country where Nokias are still popular (somewhere in Europe). Hah, I use Nokia that's little older than me that will survive the end of the Solar System. Just take photos with real camera and use real MP3 player though. I like only old iPods with monochrome screen. These with color screen are so hard to use. I'm not poor kid, my parents are rich enough to buy me iPhone 7 but I love Snake II so much that will last until GSM gots turned off.

HAIL 3310! Here is photo of mine:

Yes, emos use Nokia 3310.

My views to your situational struggles is you don't need to do anything to make your mom nervous. Maybe you should allow some time to understand by your what your situation as being emo. Emo is controllable so discuss your being emo to your mom in a gentle way full of love and full of compassion and passion.

I am emo when I was young. My parents accept me for what I am. But eventually when I am maturing, being emo was replace with a more decent man. Dont get me wrong, I still love songs that are emo, just the appearance though,.
