So, why can't we have such here on audio and visual without linking to a different site? I think this should also be look into.

I think SMF had Flash support back in the day. You can still see the Insert Flash button in the editor. Flash could play audio and video.
Of course, Flash has long gone and this forum is ready for a long-awaited upgrade.

OP,  just a tip. You will be told the same thing from post to post, that everyone is afraid of other people's links and so on.
Frankly speaking, I'm weary of links too. It takes me extra scrutiny before I click on any. I just want to avoid stories that touch, so to speak. Phishers are preponderant this day and one has to be extremely careful.

Well, I think that will be okay only when the shared topic in question is offensive or anathema to progress. I'm not referring only to this forum in perspective.

However, to tell you the truth I've had a moment in the past when I thought about this audio thing (also visual too) and why the forum doesn't have a feature for it just the same way we've for pictures. Pictures are uploaded on imgur but we can view them here without going to imgur. So, why can't we have such here on audio and visual without linking to a different site? I think this should also be look into.

You're a bit harsh and uncharitable with your comment there. You don't need to tag someone's effort to make a didactic difference "useless". Yes, the effort may not be accurate or what it should be but you didn't have to put the poster down by that comment of yours. Please, let's be guarded.

It's nice, smart, and polite. And, as always, without offending anyone. Smiley

I don't this the forum has such feature and I don't even think it safe in clicking links like that, most are used by scammers, so it not safe to me. And I think you posted the audio somewhere else and just share the link here.

Too harsh for me. I'm pretty sure that there are still a number of people here that will benefit from the tutorial that the OP has posted, in some ways.

Maybe I was too harsh. But if I, for example, now create a topic with the title "How to Upload Video in Bitcointalk" and describe the process of uploading a video to YouTube, will you consider it useful material for the B&H board?

@Agbe, please don't be offended by my comment. It is important to keep in mind that most people who visit this forum are generally interested in Bitcoin or related topics. You can see from the comments of other members that most agree that your topic lacks usefulness for forum members, and some even object to sharing links to unknown services due to the high number of phishing and similar attacks in this industry. The Beginners & Help board was created so that anyone who is new to Bitcoin can ask the most basic questions and get answers, but primarily related to Bitcoin in general. For everything else, see the Off-Topic section.

I hope this is suitable

I think this is a useless tutorial for Beginners & Help board because it has absolutely nothing to do with the bitcointalk forum or cryptocurrencies. You can basically post a link to anything you want and I don't think anyone needs a tutorial for that.

Too harsh for me. I'm pretty sure that there are still a number of people here that will benefit from the tutorial that the OP has posted, in some ways.

Anyway, I've been in the forum for nearly 5 years already but even once, I didn't see any audio uploaded here because it isn't supported maybe like what others are saying and TBH, I find watching videos more convenient than just hearing it in an audio (unless it is a music of course). Still, 10 for the effort, but in terms of how many people here in the forum will benefit from this, not much.

SMF does not seem to have native support for audio, but I’ve read on their forum a bunch of threads that manage it though mods (see https://custom.simplemachines.org/index.php?action=mods and filter by audio or video for example).

Obviously, at this stage, the forum's current software is not going to implement anything of the sort (it avoids extra dependences and potential security attack vectors). Not sure if Epochtalk is even considering it so far seriously, although there is a reference to youtube video processing in the code, though I'm not sure where it leads: https://github.com/epochtalk/epochtalk/search?q=video.

See I know you want to share something useful with us but forum doesn't allow this audio features and you have to go through these third party software and then sharing the links what you have done but just want to say that if you are sharing your audio then it's completely waste as you can simply write a detailed post about the same on the forum itself.

And if you want to share someone's else audio then you can summarise it on the post here as most of members will not be willing to listen to these audios and trust is another part for our safety.

Personally,  I don't think it is even safe to share files like this.
I don't click in files people share in forums, and nobody should. Unless you really trust the Sender,  don't open files someone posted here or sent to your email.

Everyone here is somehow involved with bitcoin and/ or other cryptocurrencies  , which makes this forum a great attack vector for phising and other kind of social attacks.
That's right because we have seen so many phishing attempt through these links and even PDF files also so it's better not to click on the links in case it injects malware in your system and most of the times they have key logger that will gain access to your keyboard so I am also not a fan of clicking these links from these untrusted sources.

Moreover we should avoid uploading our files to these third party untrusted services ourselves also that can be harmful for us also so it should be avoided.

There is a popular saying in my locality that says one can even learn from an insane person. His information might not be well grounded but directly or indirectly he has helped someone. Some persons like me cherish this piece of information OP just dropped in this thread. And I want to appreciate members that corrected his errors. We are here to learn, unlearn and relearn.

Listen to the audio that I uploaded and shared the link in this thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.60624586.
Ok, what the community is looking at with your OP is if it has a direct audio play here and not a link that takes someone to another site which is the case with what you've shared here. We are looking at the same thing that happens when users share pictures here. It's a direct view here. Can you get the audio to play here without taking us to another site?

Farewell o_e_l_e_o
Forum is a text-based so we should focus on text discussions. For graphics, we should use it only when necessary. Don't overuse graphics, because it can cause troubles for people who have limited access to Internet.

Same for videos. If you want to share a video, you can
  • Write a brief introduction about it
  • Leave a video link
  • Then, if a reader feel interested in after reading your introduction, that user will click on video link to watch it.

Your subject title is absolutely misleading, like several others have said, bitcointalk does not offer a means to which audios/voice notes can be uploaded to the forum, but then, you can use other sources and share the link to your audio on the forum ~ which is clearly what you did in the post you referenced.
How to do something on another platform, and share it here on the forum, is absolutely different from doing that same thing on the forum, this is simple and I personally believe you know this but deliberately made a post with a misleading subject title.

I was trying to explain how the audio file can be inserted in the forum but cognitively was phycomined. Therefore, I believed with the correction in the title now. I am not misleading again.

Since i joined the forum i have not listened to audio voice before. And if that's the methods of uploading audio voice i think that you should practicalized it with those step you give as primary example so that other can follow your step, if really it's supportive by bitcointalk forum. Because with you given us an audio voice it's when we will know that your research concerning audio is productive.

You can see it here

Plus what have written above. I don't think any usefulness of using audio, instead of just typing or simply posting an image. If it's a podcast, i will use those podcast platforms instead a random unknown websites.

Plus, the title of thread should change since there's no audio upload, or bbcode tags for audio, unlike image(image tag) and video(flash tag, although its disabled now).

If you have a video to upload like a YouTube video, you can just paste the link on your post. If you have an audio to upload like a podcast, you can just paste the link on your post. If you want to upload your own audio, you can just write what you want to upload and post it on this forum instead.

Bitcointalk doesn't even have an image upload service, let alone an audio. If you want to upload audio, but with no downloads needed for the users to hear it, better just upload it on a streaming platform. If I were you, I'd just make it a blank video with audio and upload it to YouTube, because everyone trusts that.

I have not seen or read in any board concerning audio in the forum.

That's because it lacks usefulness. Most people reading a forum like this will "scan" the text much faster and easier than listening to an audio file.
While an image can be very useful, while it's said that an image is better than 1000 words, while a screen capture can show easily what problem somebody might encounter, the use for audio files is limited, so I'd guess nobody cared.

Listen to the audio that I uploaded in this thread https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.60624586.

You didn't upload any audio to that thread. You've uploaded it somewhere else and you've linked it to that thread.
Even more, as said, since that website you've used is barely known, people won't click your links because they're cannot be sure those links are not malicious.

I don't think it's true to say that you uploaded audio in the forum. The forum doesn't have such a feature at all.
You uploaded an audio file somewhere else and shared its link here. That's like uploading a video on YouTube and sharing the link in the forum.

Personally,  I don't think it is even safe to share files like this.
