Would instawallet be recommended as a temporary wallet?

I personally use BlockChain.info/wallet for my temp wallet. It allows you to take the RPC interface of the Bitcoin client and download your private keys from an existing temp wallet into it. Only downside is if you forget your alias or identifier or (even worse) your password to it. BlockChain doesn't store your password so if you lose it, you're screwed. But hopefully you wouldn't forget it!

You would have to really trust the bitcoin specific live cd's because they could be comprimised already.
I would trust that.
I wouldn't trust the pc I was booting from, nor the network and/or the DNS I was using.

Just being paranoid for a reason.

Honestly, I'm just nervous to make something like a paper wallet. Just scared I'll be a dumbass and delete my wallet or lose access to my own coins.

Good points there...

Cheesy

Does anybody suggest online wallet instead?

I have read about blockchain wallet

Blockchain wallet is great.
I have mine setup with two factor authentication - password and sms authentication so if someone wanted to get into my wallet they would need both my password and phone.

+1

1) Encrypted flash drive with separate os for your master wallet(s).
2) Unencrypted .dat files on cd, sd- or flash for relatives in case of ...

Only thing I would add is "Spread it out!". Don't keep all your BTC's in one file/wallet system.
Yes more annoying, yes more cumbersome, but the risk becomes allot smaller for every new system you add.

4/5 posts yay ....

Hi,

I need some clarification, please.

Suppose someone steals my wallet.  What happens?
Is my file gone?
My file is not gone, but someone just copied it, set it up in his computer and transferred the coins  to one of his addresses?
How to I know that I was stolen?  When I try to send my coins to someone? At the next time I run the bitcoin client?

If someone steals your wallet.dat file (copied it presumably), the coins would be gone if he set it up in his computer and transferred the coins  to one of his addresses. On the next time you run the client your balance would be updated to show the newest balance. This is because the wallet.dat file holds the keys needed to spend the coins, and whomever gets the keys first can spend the coins first.
