I have transacted business on localbitcoins for over a year now. I have never had any issue with them. intact there was a time i was about to trade with a scammer and localbitcoins prevented me from releasing Bitcoins to him saying that he has pending complains. Therefore I really trust their security system.

when I sign up with localbitcoin I didn't got any  print a paper that has a master code on it from them!

then you haven't enabled 2fa or they changed it, because when i synced up google authenticator the final step said print this page and keep this code.. it will reset your account if you lose your phone. and it does.

Don't they have an option to change phone numbers through email verification?

I mean, instead of sending to the old phone number can't they just send to the registered email? What if the phone was lost/stolen? It wouldn't be a problem if the old phone was in a service but what if it was a prepaid sim? There are some countries where prepaid sims are used more often.

They should add an option of changing phone numbers via email verification.
And find a more reliable mail service.

when you sign up with localbitcoin they make you print a paper that has a master code on it..

this code will reset your password.. no questions asked. ive done it.. twice :/

I see. That's how it is, well, that's a pretty good method/security. That would be like 3-layers of
security then. Email , Phone, and the master code.

I guess OP must have lost this one as well.

when i read on your post, the real problem is in email sender that contain verification that you are the real person or not. but i think there is a lag time in email sender and you think that the email won't send, then you click the trying to send the email for over than two time. and after few days, you try again and its work.

maybe they need to be upgrade their site to make the customer feels secure and i hope they can fix the email sender verification problem so in the future this thing is not happen again. but yes i am agree with you, many site and not just that site that have a bad support system and make customer feel dissapointed. but as long as we still using the service and we can get secure, then i think its fine for us.

and i think its normal because i have this experience too and if i have this, i only waited for the email arrive in my inbox and not doing anything with that site.

There are so many hackings and other threats that services like localbitcoins and others are trying to protect their users and themselves. Attacks and unauthorised  access to accounts could cause serious damage. Sometimes this protective measures could be annoying and unconvenient for users but I think they are necessary.
Hope you will not be having such problems again.

Warning for localbitcoins.com right now!

What is happening to me can happen to you as well!

They implemented some stupid new function called Login Guard. I never opted in for it, they just turned it on without asking me what I wanted.

I can login to my account as usual, but then I run into this block:
Code:
Login Guard verification

We noticed that you're attempting to log in from a new browser.

A link has been sent to your e-mail address. Click the link in order to verify this new browser.

Sometimes it may take up to 30 minutes for the Login Guard email to arrive. Please also check your spam folder.

Didn't resolve your problem? Click here to get help.
But the problem is that the e-mails didn´t arrive in my e-mail. Of course I have checked junk mail folder as well. The e-mail provider is countermail.com

Support is not very helpful, they asked me a ton of questions about my account and finally they wanted to confirm a SMS sent to an old phone I no longer have. What, people don´t switch phones any more?

Now, couple of days later, totally erratically it worked again and I could receive the login guard email. Must have lost 20 e-mails before this e-mail arriving. It took me several days and hours of trying to solve the problem through support, and they were not very helpful, actually they closed my last ticket, very impolite.

Impossible to remove the old phone number without confirming an SMS they sent out. They sent out the confirmation SMS to that old phone that I´ve lost long time ago and to remove the phone number I need to confirm a SMS sent to the same number I wanna remove, it´s ridiculous hope they read this and realize their system has become really clonky and defeats its purpose.

Trying to change my e-mail now to another e-mail, yes it worked...

So I recommend you to turn off their stupid login guard that does NOT help you "protect" your account, it will only create problems. Account security, login guard, disable!

Login guard isn`t a new feature.

It helps against account hacking. You have to proove that you own this account.

It`s required.I`m sorry.

the problem is with your Email provider. if you were using a good Email service like google you never experienced such a problem.

and this is not a warning, it is a known thing that some of these unknown small Email services sometimes don't receive email from some sites for some reason that i do not know why but you never experience this with Gmail for example.

I dont think  so that this  kind of  problem is serious   though they  would surely require  authorization when you  logged  in  to a different browser or  IP.  They would surely implement  that security  and thats  a good thing  on a  certain service  because  you could really say that its safe unless if  you  give  your email to someone. If  it didnt arrive  then  request a  new  one. This  problem  is  just  normal  that email  do have  delay to arrive. Its  on servers or websites side.

Agree and I may add that always update your mobile number registered on that site if you are frequently using it.It is also for your security.I do not think there is a security breach here, only delay emails.

If you do give importance on your account and  you actively  using it you  must  really aware  on important things  that really needed  especially ythose  phone  numbers, email and 2fa so that  you  dont experience  problems  on  future. Better to keep  this  information and  must be  always  updated.  Theres no  security   breach  here  because its  just a delay and surely the site would   definitely  fix it  asap.

Those login guard are for security of our own localbitcoin account and if you disable it anyone can use phising site to gain email password combo or they may try to use email pass combo you have used in other sites, most of the people use same email pass in every site. This make them vulnerable and login guard is to protect account in such cases. I even had enabled 2fa in localbitcoins account combined with login guard.

You should thank them for stepping up the security, when the phone number changed. If it was easier for people to do this, they would have social engineered the shit out of this and many people would have lost money, when people use throw away phones to hack people's accounts. ^hmmmmm^

They do the same thing, when they want to take over domains and other accounts. It is there to protect you.

I can say that i wont whine on a service that will prevent any hack attempt to my account.  Just what the previous comment said, I will surely stop using their service if they don't do such security measure.

About the phone number, you are the one who provide it and i bet you are well aware that anytime your account have problem, that same phone number will be use to verify that you own the account by sending sms code to verify that it is you who is holding the same number.

This happens a lot. However, I don't think that it is wise to turn it off although it can be quite annoying at times. Better be safe than sorry. At least you wouldn't be losing as much money as you would if a hacker hacked into your account...

But on the other hand localbitcoins really need to step up their game with email notifications. The success rate of their email delivery confirmations within 5 minutes would be less than 90%.

Actually not receiving email on time depends upon your email service provider (most of the time), i recommend you to use gmail.com rather than any other email provider as  i have never got any delay in receiving confirmation email from any of the wallet providers before mainly from blockchain.info wallet.

However it is quite sad that even to remove phone number they require to confirm it sending sms to old mobile number. Happy to know you atleast get access to your localbitcoin at end.

If you don't want a third part offering security, just trade bitcoin/fiat here on forum and good luck with that because you will be scamed a lot of times.

They are just trying to make the things better for you. I don't use localbitcoin because of the taxes...

I have never heard of this localbitcoins.com, but it is really seems ridicules to prove your new phone number the password come to your old number. I think they really have to change something about such things on their site or in the bad case they will just loose users.

This is just security, don't get so butthurt, they do everything they can in order to secure the accounts of people, just do everything it is said and you will be fine,I always wonder why people get so pissed when something like this happens, you have to be happy there is some kind of control so that you can regain your account information and everything is normal and accurate.
