Experiences like this should be shared to other traders. To the aspiring and new traders out there that are still trying to adopt the market, make sure that you are buying the real ones.

Be careful with your trades so you won't fall for those scam schemes.

Crypto world is not safe at all, there are many ways to fool people, like phishing or just simply scamming and more. First of all think about your security and you will sleep well)
And as part of it, we only have to be aware of those schemes and we need to be careful as well.

This is an advice to all cryptoneurs. be very cautious when sending money from one wallet to the other. Always get to know the authenticity of the transaction you want to make. Do not risk your money, be advised in your transactions. I once experienced this and i nearly sent $1000 to a fake wallet. from that time till now, i have been very vigilant with divers wallet on exchange sites.
We need to be very careful when accessing our wallets, there are some viruses out there that affect the action of copy and paste and when you copy and paste a bitcoin address they replace your address with one belonging to the hacker, so before sending your coins make sure that the addresses match, you do not have to check the whole address but at least the first and the last numbers and letters.

Scammers everywhere! These criminals will do anything in order to steal from the innocent. Heartless human beings having no regards whatsoever for other people! The sad reality is that we cannot do anything to take them down and out. The best we can do is to be vigilant and smarter. Learn the system and know how to go about it.

Thanks for sharing this with others, alot of clone projects outthere now and are trapping newbies into it, this is on issue that only education can take but most new people enter then space looking to make profit without studing the space and soon fall victim of these scams,
Scammers are very smart I have seen some people selling tokens that had no value in the market anymore, tokens that were valueless since they haven replaced by others and even creating their own tokens with some similar names to confuse newbies, the amount of effort the scammers will go through to get your money is amazing, so you need to always be on your guard and check everything before sending your money to someone on the Internet.

It's very exceptional mistake that you don't know it is not an erc20 token, there are lots of contracts that are scam and not scams, I think that is mostly your mistake  Undecided

I think scammers also win sometimes because people are generally careless and not aware of some basics, although there is alot of crypto based awareness and security being implemented now but still we know the world is full of scammers that are ready to take advantage of your innocence, so do stay alert all the time.

I was trying to buy NEO coins but I didn't know it's not an ethereum based tokens. I searched for NEO contract address on google and I got one, not knowing it's a fake NEO created by a scammer. I used the contract address on forkdelta and it brought the fake NEO with the price slightly different from the original NEO being traded at bitforex. I was about buying before I sensed that something was wrong cos there was neither a  trade history nor any buy orders; only sell orders. That was how I got saved from being scammed. Please be weary of these people especially if you're a newbie in crypto world.

Oh, this is a very crucial incident, im glad you resurfaced and was very cautios
this has happened to me once when polymath token was the talk of the day. I was saved by a friend

Lesson is to ensure to have the correct contract details from the project telegram admins.

the experience is exciting and can be used for lessons for yourself and others. scam in crypto already arguably became a daily food. in a variety of stuff to crypto will not escape from the problem and it's definitely a scam. the alert should always be done carefully and even indifferent, it matters if it doesn't want to go in the scam.

It is a good thing that people reveal the stories in which they were nearly scammed and that method is very common, in an ico in which I invested some time ago the same happened, the coin was not based in ethereum and yet the scammers tried something similar and many people lost their ethereum based tokens they had and the tokens they had bought, so people need to be very careful since it is very easy to fall victim of people like that.

I dont understand really what you were thinking while searching the contract address over the internet? Who does that, who search a contract address over the internet where we send huge money to get the tokens. Its always advisable to get to the official sites of the project for which you want to buy the token and then get your token address from there. This is the official procedure you should always follow mate. Its your luck that you saved your ass from getting robbed, but this wont happen always. Lets just be safe all, and always remember never google stuff like this, its like calling for the phishing sites up front.
