To explain it short. ALTCOIN is any coin created aside from BITCOIN. So in short any coins created aside from Bitcoin are called Altcoins. So your next question might be: Why do they create Altcoin. Why not just Bitcoin? Well some altcoins are created as a form of currency to buy their services or backup to services.
So the decision is ours if we want to patronized some altcoins.

Lol. I have also been a newbie but I never have the courage to post immidiately without scanning forums. I have learned in forums about this so Im just going to share it.
Altcoins are alternative coins alternative coins that are not bitcoin created for certain purposes. There are hundreds of it in the cryptomarkets and more are emerging. You can know emerging altcoins in the altcoins services and bounties sponsoring campaigns.

What is altcoin? Its an alternative coin besides on bitcoin itself. All coins in the market except bitcoin is really considered as altcoin even on the new bitcoin cash its still an another altcoin which is based on bitcoin itself but as a clone.This is why no one could able to replace bitcoin into its place knowing that this is the King of all crypto currency.

Altcoin is also a digital currencya, where it give profit to anyone. But they cloned bitcoin which means it is a copycat, only the difference was the value very cheap, but there some alt are not cheap to be considered like ETH, XMR, DASH, ETC, WAVES, aand others. But not as the value of bitcoin has it now.

Firstly, it is not alticoin; it is altcoin, short for alternate coin which refers to all the alternate cryptocurrencies. Which means that there is only one coin which is not alternate and that is Bitcoin. The rest starting from Bitcoin Cash, although it bears the name of Bitcoin, ETH, and so on are all altcoins. They are all following the path of Bitcoin.

As far as i know about Altcoin, Altcoin almost the same as Bitcoin, the price can not be predicted to jump so quickly, can also go down very swiftly. The amount of Altcoin in circulation can also increase without anyone being able to control it. These factors make Altcoin's future being brightning i guess. Altcoin can also be an alternative for us to collect bitcoin certainly, after collected we can exchange it with bitcoin, and it's often i doing for it.
