Wow! I can't believe it. It seems that you are only posting just for fun. I've never seen a member like you before — a member which doesn't attracted by the opportunity offered by signature campaigns. Now I believe that it's really possible to go here with only pure intentions of learning

It takes awhile to rank up, maybe at that point the incentive might be good enough or not, it really depends on how you value your time and if you are already gainfully employed or earning coin elsewhere. So yeah, for now this is fun and it is also fun to watch others gain activity, merits and rank. It's like compound interest. It goes up slowly over the weeks, months, years.

In terms of Heroes waiting to rank-up to Legendaries needing merits in the process, therefore waiting for the Activity to snap the right value between 775 and 1030, I make it 17 currently:
https://public.tableau.com/shared/3DRK8YH9P?:display_count=y&:origin=viz_share_link

@witcher_sense is the first person within the list to have started out as a Newbie during Merit System kick-off, and that has currently got a higher Activity than his fellow Newbie pursuers on the list. That is a slight advantage on his track to becoming the first Legendary from Newbie under the Merit System, but the Activity magic number range is wide enough to nullify that advantage.

The former figure though is effective, meaning that they need to meet the magic activity number to make the rank requirement effective in addition (so there is a potential delay there in comparison to Newbies turned Heroes).

Good point. I should've rephrased that. I can imagine there are quite a few people with enough merit who will have quite a wait before the activity catches up. Mine happened right near the end of the predicted period.

<...>Is there anyone out there keeping notes on whether people rank up from hero to legendary faster from nothing to hero? It seems that the members who achieve it gather momentum along the way.
I figure that the idea is to compare the same "500 earned merit requirement" between the two groups you’ve mentioned. I haven't really tackled the speed concept here (i.e. number of days it took from/to), but the final outcome is as follows: https://public.tableau.com/views/BitcointalkMeritDashboard/Ranked-up?:display_count=y&:origin=viz_share_link

28 Heroes have ranked up to Legendary, whilst 32 Newbies have made it to Hero. The former figure though is effective, meaning that they need to meet the magic activity number to make the rank requirement effective in addition (so there is a potential delay there in comparison to Newbies turned Heroes).

(3) When you reach the Hero member rank, your life (to rank up) will become easier and less 'stressful'. Why I said so? Because you need 500 more merits to rank up from Senior member to Hero member, and it is truly challenging so you might not think of too much about the next rank. You simply read, learn and write, your minds are free and when you have less pressure whenever you type anything, your posts naturally become better, in quality.

Thank you for giving me advice, I think it will make me more proficient in writing suitable and interesting topic titles. It is true what you say, the amount of merit received cannot guarantee a person quality but can prove that many things that are meaningful in that person writing might be motivation, knowledge, problem solving and trying to answer other users questions.

I think the post evaluation criteria are very different, where for members who have a higher level of knowledge judging it is not useful but not so for members whose knowledge is still low. Then there is also merit given to posts based on efforts that have been made, either making threads or writing something that seems useful to others but not to the merit sender.

"Never give up & keep trying". That is the key to success. I do it.
You are here too, in my list of inspirational stories form self-promoted users, but I have some things to contribute for your coming journey.

(1) There is a typo in your topic title: it should be Newbie, rather than Newbi.

(2) My story released many months ago might be helpful for you too: Promotion with merit system and new rank requirements. It's possible.. Different stories that were written and released at different phases might be helpful for very specific target users at defined ranks.

(4) You should choose as good topic title as possible. Because the title is a hook. People will never read your contents if they are not impressed with your topic title. Topic title does not make sure they will read all your contents, but when their eyes caught by the title, they will spend some time to read your topic. Make your topic title, post more attractive

(5) Your total self-earned merits are not completely reflect your quality.
I meant, if there are two users who both self-earned 1000 merits, it does not equal that they stay at the same level of quality (in terms of post quality). There are lots of ways to self-earned merits. Two posts received 1 merit for each likely do not have same quality of contributions or given information.

It is good to self-earn merits to rank up to higher ranks but it does not serve as a proof that you are better than the others.

Happy holidays!

I have just been promoted to senior member, although it is not easy for me to achieve it. But now I have reached that rank before the end of year holidays.

I have written a little of my story in the thread [Motivation of BITCOIN4X] From Newbi to Senior Member & Now OTW to Hero Member the goal is to provide motivation and solutions to everyone who wants to move up the rankings. It is a pride when we are able to give good things to others. Congratulations to you and myself.

Let's count it down guys. Only 45 more merits and I will fully get my achievement for this year, but it does not a matter. I bump the thread because I hope my adventure here can inspire you (who have still dissapointed with the merit system) and you are future of the forum.

I need hundreds of activity points to become Legendary and with my merit earning rate, I will get enough merits before getting enough activity points. Saying the truth, my mind has nearly (just nearly, and it is a lie if I say I completely free of merit-related thoughts) been free of merits when my total merits (all self-earned) surpassed my total activity points (about 2 months ago).

Let's make a quick review on my journey:
- I did stucked at member rank for months since Jan. 2018.
- I received an amazing support from LoyceV (via merit data dump) weeks before the 1st anniversary of the merit system.
- From which, I built up my career here: ranked up to Full member rank first around the 1st anniversary, and now when the 2nd anniversary is coming, I am on the way to my 1000th merits.

My advice is:
- Finding the things you are good at (for me, it is statistics), and concentrating most of your works on it (the things you can do best). In the meantime, trying to expand your knowledge and skills to the others and someday you will manage them too.

I earned my 700th merits on 2nd October 2019.
I earned my 800th and 900th merits within October to late of November.

Since late of July, 4 months passed and I managed to earn 445 merits (19.5 months for first 500 merits and 4 months for next 445 merits. It's awesome). My raw merit-earning rate is above 100 merits per month. I wish and also believe that I will manage my decent efforts to earn 55 more merits to have enough amount for the coming important event: The 2nd anniversary of the merit system.

Unlock and bump for my 2nd anniversary (8/11/2017 - 8/11/2019).

@iasenko indirectly reminds me about it with that thread: My second birthday in forum. A retrospective view. . He created his account only one day before mine.

I don't create a new thread for my 2nd anniversary because it is unnecessary to repeat telling my stories. You can see them in OP.

To make lives of newbies easiser, I quoted some stories I made at different rank levels. From what I experienced, I think reading relevant stories for each current and target ranks is more helpful and inspirational. It is irrelevant and uninspirational if you tell a story of a self-made Hero member to a newbie (I could be wrong) because that newbie will feel overloading, something like that.

So if you are newbies and read this post, please choose relevant stories to read.
  • If you are a Member: read stories of self-made Full members
  • If you are a Full member: read stories of self-made Senior members
  • If you are a Senior member: read stories of self-made Hero members
  • If you are a Hero member: read stories of self-made or half-self-made Legendary members

Say thanks to merit system. Finally, I am a Full Member, next a self-made Senior

I wouldn't worry about rank too much. My account is even older, but due to not posting, well, and just plain lurking and reading, nothing is happening.

As long as you post something worthwhile and meaningful, and do it from time to time (like once a week or something like that) then the rank and merits will come.

I just went through a few of the threads you created from your list. I'd have to agree that they are very merit worthy. I've been plateaued at senior member for as long as the merit system has existed. I've been a member here for many years and I try to follow proper etiquette as best as I can. I've designed unique signatures for people for free on multiple occasions so they would better stand out from the crowd. I basically gave up trying to climb the ranks even though I was very proud of my progress before it came to a sudden stop. I never spammed to up my post numbers either. I have this one account. (I did run an account for a company I worked for but I didn't create it and it was only temporary. Back in 2016)

I applaud you for your perseverance, tranthidung, and for your contributions to this forum that I love and will always love as the birthplace of BTC. I am happy as a senior member. I am blazing crypto trails around the world on a daily basis and can't focus a great deal of time here trying to rank up. It's promising to know that someone rose to the challenge, though. Congratulations on the success from all your hard work.

So to all the noobs who are wondering what the trick is to ranking up these days, look at OP's post history.

I quoted this post, and I think it makes sense.
I locked the topic around a week, then unlocked and bumped it. What's wrong?
If you don't like my thread, and other threads listed in the OP, just ignore it. If I don't do wrong thing, just skip this one, and move to others.

Crowded threads - which have posts by different users posted in-a-row, and look like active discussions - do not equal to a good, quality thread.

Moved it to Beginners & Help, locked for now, and I will bump it once a month.

Bumping trash thread does not help you earn a single merit.
An other trick to rank up seems to be by bumping your own threads in Meta and Beginners boards.
You should read forum rules before commenting posts lite this.
I usually do not bump my thread each day, around 3-days per one bump, or even longer. There is nothing wrong about that, especially if thread owners bump their useful threads.

If it doesn't really help then why would you bump that thread?

I mean, people already ignored the topic because it wasn't good enough and maybe you didn't provide the information they're looking for. So there's no sense if you'll bump a trash thread.
--

In my case, I always keep the discussion lively and give good statements that will encourage them to reply. So through that, the thread will automatically bump through the opinions or statements of other members than spamming bump on the thread.

I suppose this is just a small "accident de parcours" because I am quite sure a Hero Member has too much honor and dignity to lower himself to such practices.

This humble Senior Member would nonetheless suggest not to repeat it. It sets a questionable example for lower-ranked members like this one, or this one, who have been punished for bumping their Merited posts recently.
If repeatedly vioate rules, punishments to come, sure; but by now, just deleting bumping posts (more than once per 24 hours) as warning, I think.

So to all the noobs who are wondering what the trick is to ranking up these days, look at OP's post history.  If you're not willing to put in that much effort into your posts, don't expect to rank up past Jr. Member.  This is exactly what the merit system was supposed to do, by the way, i.e. force members who want to advance their rank to make constructive posts.  And for the handful of members who've actually managed to claw their way toward Hero member status, it's worked.

When you started as a newbie you believed that you'll to this stage someday, and you put in your best from the onset without doubts. Big congrats to you cos it's never easy.
No, it is not what I imagined in January of 2018. During those days of 2018, I simply had a dream that I could rank up to Full Member rank, with huge decent efforts, and with a long period, likely 2 years. But now, I actually moved much farther than that, what I did not thought of around two years ago, honestly.

If you read my story, you will see that I spent ~ 13 months from Newbie to Full Member ranks. After that, I spent  about 6.5 more months to move from Full Member to Hero Member ranks. It means I received 4 times of merits within half of a period (from Newbie to Full Member ranks).

Everything is difficult and really challenging at beginnings, but if you dedicate your time to improve yourself (first), and help others, you will well moving forwards.

You might be right. I nearly hit it! Once again, merits are not scarce, right? They are floating around us, just waiting for chances to drop on our heads.
Let me guess, you'll rank up today or tomorrow, 10 Merits is only what you need, so there will be another person that will take the opportunity to grant you what you deserve.
Hey, fella! Let me tell you a secret story.
Months ago, I admired you so much because you earned much more significant merits than me, when I was a Member (self-made Member) and struggled to earn each merit, then when I hit the Full Member rank, my pace of merit earning boosted, then I hit the Senior Member rank several weeks or even more than one / two month(s) before you. You dropped back, but then you fastly moved up to Hero Member, faster than me.
Our unofficial race to next ranks (Senior Member, then Hero Member) is interesting, right?

I'm not sure whether personal stories or achievements should be posted in Meta its probably more suited to the Off Topic sub forum due to it being about a member of the forum and not the forum itself but thats being pretty picky if I tell you the truth. Definitely, I think introducing the activity ranking system was an attempt to prevent account farming. If I remember correctly, signature campaigns started to pick up during this time, as well as the value, and publicity of Bitcoin. Therefore, the forum was subject to more posts, and more account registrations. I'll have a look at the data of this later on when I've got a bit more time, so this is all off my memory at the moment.
Is this one the first signature campaign in the forum?

Anyone who have the interest of the forum at heart will agree to this especially if that individual have been around for at least two of those three eras (stages) you listed above. This system (merit) brought about more informative, educational and captivating topic. The merit system have achieve its initial purpose (that's bringing about quality discussion). We just have to build on it from here henceforth.

OP, congratulations on your soon to rank up. Thought you'll get there before @cabalism13 though you're almost there. It has been a journey, can remember our days of Full member like yesterday, another user I'm routing for is @r1s2g3. Took you guys long enough though congratulations.

So the activity system was introduced to prevent users ranking up by spamming, and then potentially trying to scam. Back then we didn't have a trust system, and high ranks were considered more trustworthy, because it seems our society values higher, and longer term members than newer ones, which I think we as a forum have been proven wrong on this assumption multiple times.

The merit system was then finally introduced to put a significant end to low quality users, account farming, and spammers. I think we'll always have a problem with spammers, and low quality users, but at least these days they don't get rewarded for it. Again, we'll always have account farming, but for different reasons. The majority of account farmers are now those that register hundreds of accounts to bump, and advertise their services.

I personally believe its had a positive impact on the forum, and is the better system of all three.

Reaching to any rank you wish of depends on how information you passed and research you carried out using statistics as illustrations. Bitcointalk then (2017) and now is not the same. Then you can ranked up without merit but now requires merit for you to be ranked up. Albeit your post has be lovely since from day one you registered as member on bitcointalk

It's definitely harder to rank up these days, and certain posts are more likely to get merit. For example, the statistics users are chucking out via data scraping, and all that will be more likely to receive merit, because its both informative, and out of the capability of many of the users here. There's been 3 stages of ranking up if I remember correctly here on Bitcointalk. First of all, ranking up was tied to amount of posts you had (activity wasn't implemented at this time) then activity got introduced, and there were a few moans, and groans about it. Finally, the merit system was implemented, and has had the most criticism, and impact on the forum. I personally believe its had a positive impact on the forum, and is the better system of all three.

And unlike you my friend, I am not a good topic starter, I'm just using what I have learned from life to gain a common reasoning to share with the others, though some are not accepted by them.
I think I find a user which is similar with me that is not a good topic starter. I think that is the reason too why I'm struggling with merits (a bit Wink ). I'm just posting what I know (stock knowledge Cheesy) but you're a few merits away too from becoming a solid Hero Member.

To the OP, what can I say Cheesy. I have seen your contributions here on the forum and I can only say congratulations and don't stop contributing here Wink. This is just one proof that the ones who are contributing are the ones who will rank up and those who are just spamming are the ones who don't rank up (including me).

🤩Finally Married🤩
You're almost there, someehat close enough to see the door, just like me what I'm suppose to do now is to knock and hope that there will be someone who'll open it. And unlike you my friend, I am not a good topic starter, I'm just using what I have learned from life to gain a common reasoning to share with the others, though some are not accepted by them.

You will definitely reach it, just a little bit more. And only a few weeks will it take as I can see it from your profile. Good luck buddy! Just continue doing what you believe is right.

P.S. make a new merit club already 😂 the "ILoveYou3000"

Appreciated. It seems that we were in Bitblender campaign, right?

Yeah, and I really miss the campaign, we were a solid team that time and I thought it would last and you can rank up their to become a Hero Member.
Anyway, for sure more campaigns will come in the future with a better rate and a long term one.

First, I want to say thanks to all of you. Some of you are right that I should make this thread when I already rank up to Hero Member.
I thought of it previously, but I think that why do I have to share my journey, two or three months later? Because the earlier I share it, the earlier others whom still stucked with their dissapointment, might be motivated from my thread. Then, they can save their two or three months of dissapointments and do nothing. Instead, they will use those months to improve themselves. I do think it is better for them.

You will do hit the Full Member rank.
This guy: CucakRowo is a very good case study for you. Two days ago, he/she was a Member, and now he/she became a Full Member, with total merits stood at 128, currently. This account created on March 12, 2018, it means he/she spent 16 months to move from zero to Full Member; but within two days (or less than two days), he/she received 28 merits, that equal to 28 percent of total merits earned during previous 16 months.  Shocked
I am on the road to Full Member station Smiley
Merit system does not stop users to rank up, it motivates them to become better users, everyday. They can change from shit posters to good posters. After months of adaptation to merit system, their posting habits become better, and some day it will become their natural good posting habit. They can make good posts without efforts, without over-thoughts on merits.
I know that many users on the forum are not happy with merits requirements and feel they are in a bad position compared to older users because it is much harder for them to progress in the forum.
Your example shows that this is not the case and that everyone here was rewarded fairly, according to their work and effort.
Appreciated. It seems that we were in Bitblender campaign, right? I think I will do rank up sooner than the end of this year. In average, I receive around 40 to 50 merits per month.  Smiley
Congrats in advance mate, I think you'll finally become a Hero before the end of the year, though we don't post the same boards but I can notice your posts that are seemed to be helpful, with that said, I think you deserve to rank up soon.

Have a nice weekend, everyone!

You're a try-hard. Try logging off your computer and visiting a local park or something... seriously.

This is a niche internet forum where 99.99% of the population doesn't give a shit about your status.

If this post is geared at encouraging others, then it should be moved to the beginners board and if it is otherwise, it'll be better to wait till you're a hero member to tell us your story/achievement.

I agree, it doesn't have to do in meta anyway.

Let @tranthidung post it, besides the journey isn't that easy and we all knew that thus for sure everyone will be overwhelmed if this gonna happen to them. Congratulations btw!

With all your activities, i believe (like you mentioned before) you can reach hero member ranks less than 5 months (not 7 months, start with this comment).
I meant I estimate my time to move between Senior Member rank and Hero member rank, from March to next one or two months. The estimated period does not start from today.
By the way, I think you should use default font of the forum, which is easier to read.
Code:
[font=poppins]
I don't think you should use this font. It is not a good strategy to differentiate yourself from others.
The sans-serif style is any typeface that lacks the projecting features radiating from the edges. Hence the reason for the word “sans,” meaning “without.” These styles are generally cleaner in look and style, and dominate most web-based experiences. “Gothic” is often used with Sans styles.

Popular Font Options: Arial, Verdana, Helvetica, and Lucida Grande

That font looks better on my phone. Anyway, I still don't like it. San-serif fonts are better.

aka JAGEND.

What i like (mostly) from your thread and posts  are you always write using data & you always use parameters to compare the data that you present.
