I doubt very much it's the final design, but I have no way of knowing that.

I'd love it if it helped Bitcoin. I'm holding quite a few. I just look at it as if these companies are students in college. When you graduate you don't build your company on the schools network. You build your own network and use the knowledge you learned at school. That's what I think they're doing but we'll see. If I'm wrong I'm rich. So I hope I'm wrong.

Here's what everyone always overlooks when they muse about stuff like this: the system only works if people believe the digital tokens have value.

belief

If NASDAQ or JP Morgan go make their own blockchain, it will have some initial seed value because it will be backed by a major company.  But it won't have the monstrous billions of market cap that bitcoin has, and without that inherent value, the system breaks down.

It would be like me declaring that my special alloy is now as valuable as gold...  Everyone would look at me and say, ummm, good for you, but no its not.

For all these applications to work, they have to be built upon a network where the tokens are valuable, and any proprietary efforts will fizzle because you just won't be able to convince enough people to use your network to create the value you need to make it useful.

Bitcoin wins.  Yes, don't just pack for the moon.  Throw in a Mars sweater and a pair of Alpha Centauri slippers too.  Shit gonna get cray cray.

Do we actually believe they intend to trust Bitcoiners to secure their network? Yeah, whatever.

Is that a royal we?

https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.11342352

Yep, I've already read that. That's why I mentioned colored coins because the experiments will be done with the experimental system already in place. Is that the final design that will be used? Can you tell me that one?

anyone who has finger on pulse and is reading the RELENTLESS funding news of bitcoin startups and companies, hitting billions in total
all the positive news. wallstreet, nasdaq etc

I am amazed the price can hold this low whilst the big boys are steadily accumulating the big merchants and miners dumping at these prices.

These funding are for bitcoin technology. It is related to bitcoin, but might not cause bitcoin price to rise.

Finally someone sees it for what it is. I'm sure they'll use colored coins to experiment with the technology but I can't see Wall Street/NASDAQ trusting their security to a bunch of unidentified Chinese mining farms. It's well known that current Bitcoiners hate Wall Street. Do we actually believe they intend to trust Bitcoiners to secure their network? Yeah, whatever. They might use blockchain technology when the experiments are done but it will be their blockchain distributed to all their affiliates worldwide.

That is actually interesting. 4 years on, the price is $200 with a high of around $1k

yup. great gains compared to the start of the thread. even still, not everyone who was around in the early days got rich. some of us didn't have anything to invest back then. the most i had at one time was about 20 coins, and that was before we broke 100. spent most of it back then too.

Yeah, definitely. If you look at some of the addresses of the people who were first posting in this thread, most spend their coins back in 2012. It isn't easy to hold on to your principle and keep holding on to your coins, as it may sound. Scams and Ponzi schemes are pretty tempting at times!

moving coins != spending Smiley

Sorry, I had black beans for dinner last night. The wind off those beans can move an oak tree. lol

What I see is the market cap dropping steadily for a year. I want to believe but I don't see it.

Me and you the same, the long term charts paint a pretty obvious picture and however much I don't like it, it is true. We have been dropping dropping and soon dropped. Will it bounce back in time!? Not sure if it drops to far and for to long a lot of people will just keep bailing with their losses and not look back and I don't blame them. So no OP I don't think we are wealthy elite more like broke wishful thinkers, the elite have go out of dodge.

You know what's crazy...

This is viewed as some legacy topic of a different time, when bitcoins were worth peanuts and these brilliant luck-tards had stumbled into a massive financial windfall...  If only they had just bought and HODL'ded.

We see them casually mentioning the loss of 50,100, and a thousand bitcoins and think "Sheeeeeyat".

But back then, there was only a vague hope of going to the stratosphere ($1,000/coin) but people weren't even sure if they believed their own hyperbole.

Well, we are sitting on that same horizon.

Years from now, when this topic is drug up from the abyss, people will look at THIS post, when we could have bought bitcoins for $240 each and think "That's absurd...  They could have easily bought bitcoin for ridiculously cheap...  And yet so many didn't...  Even I didn't...  fack!"

When bitcoin hits $10 each and you could have had them for pennies, it seems like you've missed the boat.  But you haven't.

And I'm promising you, right now.  Everyone who buys bitcoin at today's prices and just HODLs for a decade will be absurdly wealthy.  No one has "missed the boat" if they are willing to just take a small leap of faith off the dock.

See you in 2020.

Yes, there's a sense that things are about to turn on their head.  Sooner much rather than later.

I think momentum plays a big part, and all the build up from VC's, development, more positive news than negative is starting to show.

Coinbase funding, Circle funding, 21 inc, MIT new home for Core devs, COIN ETF, ItBit, Gemini, GBTC trading now...stack up enough pebbles, and your bound to build a mountain.

For sure you should hold the bitcoin you have or trade as it would not be profitable to sell now unless you are an early adopter, miner, or profit from something. Most don't fall under these category's though they are guys that have brought in over $400.

You should be careful investing everything in bitcoins as you won't be the first who have done that and their everything at $500-1000 is not looking great is it!? Same as yours might not when it halfs in value again. Invest what you can afford to lose and you won't go wrong.

Bitcoin was at $600 when I first discovered it. I have watched it go down and down.
I won't be putting too much money into Bitcoin, but I won't be spending the bitcoins that I have in the near future. I am sure that there are a lot of people who think the same.

It takes much longer than most of us were thinking but the big turn in terms of price is around the corner Smiley

Yeah you are right. At present I am also going through losses and now I am not putting my money into bitcoins but the amount of bitcoins i hold i have kept it safe for future. I believe that prices will go high and so i am not spending it let's hope for the best.

Welt Am Draht

That was a lesson learned by you though and you never spent your familys money chasing it did you. The thing is it is not nearly as difficult as people think, I am not great by any means but I am in profit trading.

Good for you. I'm pretty confident I would've made a gargantuan balls up out of it all if I'd attempted trading. I'll put my faith in the skills of others rather than my own, or lack thereof.
