3 options:
1. someone is lying (to us or to OP)
2. the random generator is insecure
3. the Ledger was altered by someone

#1 is the most likely, #2 is the biggest problem, and #3 happens more often but usually to steal instead of donate.

That's impossible no one experienced this before with Ledger. Unless its already have a wallet own by the previous owner.

I'm wondering if she bought the ledger as 2nd hand-used and maybe she didn't generate a new seed phrase and the wallet already have generated wallet own by the previous owner. That's possible than just created a new wallet from the ledger and luckily found doge coin.

This device was purchased from an official reseller and had not been used by anyone else before. It came in a brand new, unopened box and was completely sealed.

160$ is not big money for me.
I was shocked, even if there were only 10 cents in my wallet.
My only complaint is why there wasn't 3 million $ in the wallet. Because honestly, if there had been 3M $ in the wallet, I wouldn't be here sharing these stories with you, and you would never have heard about them.

-snip- I have to ask the following. What is date of transaction which fed the mentioned address with those 1000 free dogecoins? Does this date coincide with the date when your sister created the new SEED for purchased Nano x or that trx is dated earlier/later?
He already provided those information in his reply containing updates: /index.php?topic=5507888.msg64483338#msg64483338

Oh, thanks, I didn't pay attention to his update. Nevertheless, regarding this updated story, starting out from the assumption that someone else has the same address  OP could probably transfer let's say 100 dogs to other address including OP_Return message into trx which is addressed to that supposedly existed user and see what will happen next.

Allegation in  predetermined/faulty SEED generation is too serious to be leaved behind.

Incredible story for me,
Considering the topics started by OP (list), there's actually a chance that this is just an "incredible story",
Despite that, he had posted some genuine newbie questions regarding his own Ledger Nano, so there's also a chance that they just missed some details to come with those conclusions.

All this is just an interesting story and nothing more - given that the OP has a very vivid imagination, it wouldn't surprise me if he made it all up (for whatever reason).

In addition, when you find something that does not belong to you, it would be normal to try to find the owner, and not to seize something that is not yours and make a financial gain. When I say "find the owner" I don't mean literally find him, I would draw his attention by making one transaction to draw his attention to the fact that someone else has access to his seed, and then I would return everything to the original address.

I see Only 2 option now:
1. 24 seed generated completely  Randomly and Both device  got the same seed. But its very unlikely
2. Ledger use pre generated 24 seed and probably due to an error both device got the same 24 seed. This senraio is more likly to me.
But again I have no any evidence.
Your have a third option:
If the device is proven authentic and the seed phrase is generated by the device,
Ledger Nano X in general or two particular Ledger Nano X devices' "True RNG" may be flawed.

I read their Whitepaper and they claim to be using "True Random Number Generator" which links to this Wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardware_random_number_generator
But since Ledger's hardware isn't "95% open-source" (as they call it), no one can check if their hardware RNG has something to check for malfunctioning or missing entropy sources that could lead to weak RNG.

In any case, it's recommended to contact LedgerHQ so they can investigate it since she shouldn't be using the unit itself, not just the seed phrase.

Both sounds unlikely, where 1st option is more than very unlikely. Anyway, since Ledger these days have poor reputation, you might want to do some research and then suggest your sister to buy better and more reputable hardware wallet.

Update:
I found another coin in the 24 seed, 45$ worth of BabyDogee
So overally:
120$ worth of Doge
45$ Babydoge
I can see first transaction to the wallet made by August 2023.
Its clear someone have the same 24 seed.

Are you kidding me or something, I don't think that your sister bought this ledger waller new maybe she bought it from someone, because it clearly shows that the seed phrase is already in use and belongs to someone else.

It is better you abandon the wallet and buy a new wallet but not Ledger product this time because it has become a close source wallet and they are in charge of your seed phrase.

I know ledger isn't a recommended hardware wallet to use right now, but i still find this very hard to believe, where did your sister buy this hardware wallet from? I don't think she has bought this wallet from the manufactuerers and maybe this is why this has happened. Someone else has surely used that seed phrase before or is still using it, but how is it possible that your device generated such a seed phrase.

I do know that Ledger has some promotional offers where they give people money (like this for example)[1] but I doubt that's what happened here. It's not as simple as plugging your ledger and finding the money there.

Where did she buy the Ledger from? If she bought it from anywhere other than the official website's, then this could explain it.

And yes, she definitely shouldn't continue to use this seedphrase.

Yes this is definitely different in the link you shared the voucher is usually emailed separately which is understandable, but here now we have the generated address immediately getting credited or should I say already generated, then my curiosity is that if this is true then ledger already have the seed phrase and addresses generated or simply when you generate this addresses or keys it simply send them the information. Yes I know they are closed source and the second part of sending them the seed phrase and address is possibly but is it also possible for them to have pre generated the seed phrase already?

As for OP it is clear that the seed and everything on that wallet isn’t yours alone so my advice is to everything related to ledger and move elsewhere for security of your funds

Hello everyone, My sister bought a new Ledger
Nano x and Today she opened it, She generated 24
seed using nano x for the first time, then she added
doge coin using ledger live,Then she noticed there
is already about 1000 free doge on that address,
how is it even possible?? By the way she sold all of
that doge, but I told her to not use that 24 seed. Can
anyone  explain this???

I don't even know how to react to such statements without any evidence and doubts arise.

If something like this takes place, that the seed-phrase generator built into the hardware wallet repeatedly produces the same seed-phrases, then this is a reason to seriously think about whether it is worth using wallets from the ledger.

What is the probability that User 1 can get exactly the same seed-phrase as User 2? Maybe alexey14's sister was very lucky and she got the seed-phrase from an error in in calculations? Have there been similar statements from ledger users (on other resources) before that the generated seed-phrase contained a non-empty balance?

alexey14's sister should also check other coins in the wallets for the probability of finding a balance. Although no, it's better if she doesn't do this, otherwise she'll appropriate everything again. Smiley

Not that he should not make use of the seeds phrase again only but he should also not make use of a close source wallet again. Ledger Nano wallets seed phrase are all generated and stored on a secure element that is completely close source.

But not only just that. Ledger Nano do not care about their customers privacy and they also luring their customers to store their seed phrase online.

The only possible explanation to this situation is that someone already used the seed phrase previously and had some coins in it. The fact is it's almost unlikely to occur that two same seed phases are generated by different user. The entropy and range used in the script for seed phase generation makes it almost impossible for USER A and USER B to generate the same seed phrases infact the probability of that occurring is less than 1%.

Just like you have said , you should not make use of such address again since from the situation it's obvious that you are not the only one with the keys to that wallet.
