If ppl just try to help ... forum would be more clean... (bla.. bla.. bla.... energy... bla bla bla .. overkill... bla bla bla... will be fired.... lol)

You're right - the legitimate suggestion that you are most likely jeopardizing your career and livelihood is not helpful at all.  I should stay on topic, I'm so sorry.  I look forward to hearing about how well this goes for you.  Please report back in a couple of months on how it all worked out.

Relax, his dad is the owner of the company, and he has got permission to experiment with mining.

If you are going to use the CPU's do not use cgminer! Use Pooler's CPU miner! Works much better/faster.

I´ve realized that right now!

And Pooler´s CPU miner have the 64 bit version! much better!

Thanks!

Using it!

Thanks!

My friend is interested in mining quark with some i7 pc's he has access to.
I did a little research, but could not find anything like btc-ltc mining hardware comparison chart for cpus.

How much kh/s are you getting per cpu?
How much should ivy bridge i7 get?

Also - is there a profit calculator for quarkcoin / other cpu currencies?

Hi!

You have almost the same scenario than me.

I´m getting like 30/35 Kh/s (per computer) when using all cores (8 cores each CPU) - only 5Kh per core) - Mining Quark!!

I didnt find any specific Quark calculator... but u can use some genereic calculator and fill with information like dificulty, etc... (i actually dont know how to do this... but it´s the way...)

Almost 100 computers, but still no coin!!! lol

2 days running and watching to see if i have some coin in my addres, but none..lol

BASIC QUESTION: How can I check if my quark address have some coin? I´m using http://block.lowend.fm/address/QQ1Fnz5bWmibxaKmQ8fNoGTT4tTJHjbAyd

but it says my address have not seen on the network.. Am I mining for someone else? ahahaha!!

Good Luck!

Are you trying to mine solo? If so, you must be very lucky to find a block. Try a mining pool.

Proceed with caution...  People have been fired for running BOINC / Seti@Home on work computers.

In those cases, the people weren't profiting - I suspect the consequences could be even higher if you are putting software on them to make $$$.

There are other examples - those are just the first two I found.  And yes, they were not very smart about it.  At very least, make sure the powers that be know what you are up to - it's nice to have extra coinage, but probably not worth risking a career over.

+1

I have a shitload of high-end enterprise hardware under my control but I'm not going to risk my job running them as CPU miners.
YOU WILL GET FIRED!! The powerconsumption of your systems will skyrocket and they will find out.

Why in the world does a call centre operator need a machine with an i7 in it? Pure overkill!

Focus on being a call centre operation first and not a mining operation.

Seems like a few fundamentals need going over here.

They r old i7 (first or second generation). 2630QM

They already have 2 years... time to push them to its maximum power!

93 gpus could give you ~70MH for GPU mining.

I got to ask, wouldn't this be illegal? using company resources for personal use?

It is stealing of electricity and installing unwanted programs, so definitively good reason to get fired

Hi! I´m having some dificulties to answer...lol

The site ins´t alowing me to post too fast...

Well.. we are in Brazil ... my father is the owner.

He and me wants to bet in a new business... Cryptocurrencies appear to be a nice issue....

We are still learning...

Thanks for your worries about the legallity.

We will watch for the electricity bill in order to track if worth or not.

Tks!

hey.. I'd buy some 7970's or 280'x and convert your callcenter to a dark inferno  Cool you dont need to have 3 gpus per one machine... one would be good enough Wink

people will not notice a thing that their computers gets raped overnight  Grin just tell them to open the windows in the morning.

good luck!

Please be aware that mining on both cpu and video card  decreases the life of hardware. In the best interest of your company, you might consider not wasting all of that energy mining shit coins.

I as far as I could see, LTC have already reached a dificulty level that my computers cant compete with.

Well, yes if you calculate power costs LTC is not worth it at the current exchange rates. But I thought you didn't have to pay for power Wink

If you include power costs, your best option would indeed be to mine CPU only coins. Or, like I said before, mine new scrypt coins right after launch for +/- 2 days, get a lot of coins, and hope the value will rise. This is a bit more gambling, since most new coins barely have any value when they start.

Anyway, good luck with setting things up!

Nice! Thanks!

I´m reading the wemineltc "getting started".. but even downloading cgminer under 3.5 (and newer too), gives the error about opencl.dll (this is not a problem.. i´ll check how to download this file), I tried the cgminer-nogpu.exe but says "--scrypt command not recognized..."

So have to solve the DLL problem.

cgminer have a config file that i can reproduce on all my computers. So, I´m thinking in mapp a drive letter (i.e. Z:) in all computers, where Z: = \192.168.1.254\cgminer\" so everybody will use the same .config file (don´t know if it is possible.. i´ll try and make some tests....)

QUESTION: Does it have a problem because too many computers with low hash rate? I read something about errors and loses...

... as much as I understand about this, more I know I´m far to understand everything.. lol!

Thanks again!

I don't think starting your own pool would be a good way to do this.

I agree with maardein on this one. Starting your own pool will be more trouble then it's worth.

Here's a link to the getting started page at wemineltc.com
https://www.wemineltc.com/gettingstarted

It's a great LTC pool if you decide to mine LTC. This link has some great "getting started" info that can be altered for whatever pool you decide to join. It also has download link for a stratum miner with some basic info on how to use it.

I don't think starting your own pool would be a good way to do this.

Have you made any calculations? It depends a little on which i7 you have, but since I don't expect your employer to buy computers with high end CPU's (actually the fact you have i7's is already quite rare, you see i5's or even i3's way more often), lets say you can get ~35kh/s per CPU. That would set your total hashrate at ~3255kh/s, which is quite a nice hashrate, comparable to around 3x 7990 GPU. But, most pools are in the order of several hundred mh/s, and you only get 3.3mh/s.

Since the chance of finding a block is highly correlated with the total hashrate of a pool, I think it would be much better to join an existing pool.

Having that said, the suggestion of Jothand is actually a great way to do this. Set up your own pc as a stratum proxy, and have all the other pc's point at your proxy. If you want to switch pool/coin, you will only have to change the setting on your own computer, and all others will automatically work for that pool.

Apart from mining CPU coins like quark, you could definitely also look at some scrypt coins. Since you don't have to pay power, you could even mine LTC, which would still give you around 1LTC per day at the current difficulty. It may also be worth keeping an eye on this subforum, and mine some of the newly launched coins. At the start of a coin you can easily get huge amounts in a short time frame, which could become a lot more valuable in the future (but this is a gamble of course).

Hmmm... Tks too much!

The i7s (actually only 80 are i7) have 8 cores each (made on 2012). The other 13 computers are mixed (2 quad core, 2 core 2 duo, etc...)....

Yes.. we´re a little afraid because of the electricity bill. But we still want to "see for believe" and maybe make some adjusts to make it be profitable.

No, we dont planing to buy more computers. I convinced my father (owner here), that we could use these computer out working time.

I as far as I could see, LTC have already reached a dificulty level that my computers cant compete with.

Maybe after all working, I can measure my scrypt rate power and point to another coin.... I still didn´t got to connect to my server (P2Pool). ahahahahah!!  it says "connected to 192.168.1.254" but 0.0Kh/s.

But the most important information now, is that I have to confifgure my stratum server and configure all computers to connect to it. So I configure this stratum server to use some pool.

OMG! I almost understanding 100% ... what a weight out of my back!..lol

Tonight I will dive in this issue again and maybe sleep here until make it work!!

Thanks again!!
