If you dont have free electricity it woun't be profitable to mine with the CPU.

A resonably modern AMD GPU can still make profits mining altcoins thou, a 5850 for example, underclocked and undervolted is still profitable on the second biggest coin LTC and even more so on other smaller coins, you can compare profitabillity at http://www.coinwarz.com/

an 5850 at 282Mhz/s, 92 watt and relatively high cost per kw/h in this example:

You're entirely right. The easiest way to counter this would be to turn on the miner for ~1 minute every ~10 minutes. Then everything stays in check

It would be no more unethical than you getting a cluster of earth diggers together to mine gold. With Bitcoin there is no central authority. Everything is essentially public and only subject to the rules of the free market. Do what you like.

I see you're pretty new, and may think mining coins is easily profitable. It's not. There is a lot of competition for it now. You may want to check out the mining section.

No. The BitCoins you receive for generating a block are a payment to you by the system for you work towards extending the block chain. You have invested money (by way of electricity and hardware wear) in the generation of the block chain, and are receiving compensation for that work.

afaik it doesnt really matter if you set the priority manually because bitcoins creates new threads everytime it generates a block and these threads have a low (?) priority by default.

No. For each SHA-256 hash you calculate, you get one chance of solving the block. Better CPUs can hash more data per second.
