On 15th August I received 0.000005 BTC and I have no idea why. I wasn't expecting anything.

Here is the transaction id: 7c21078cba61037e343658c9f8cbaff84a95532c2ce24e9de3feef65c3c79e28

Anyone know what this is? It's a miniscule sum, but I am just curious.

It looks like spam. Keep it for the future though, you never know if it gets some value  Cheesy

I don't recal visiting a faucet, and I hadn't published my bitcoin address anywhere at that time. Other tiny amounts where sent to lots more address in the same transaction so a faucet could be one explanation. The fact that the transaction fee was more what I received, but less than the entire transaction suggests that a faucet could be the explanation.

Why would someone setup a faucet anyway? strange.

Maybe a spam to piss you off. You will probably spend more on fees if you redeem this amount, and clients without coin control suck sometimes when it comes to which inputs to use

A faucet, and if you posted your address in any public online places, someone might've sent you it for whatever reason.

Yeah, have you been doing the free Bitcoin's websites? Like break a box for a reward and stuff?

Always make a new address for a new website, then you can keep track of where the payment are coming and going.
