Somebody with user id "tytus" had just kinda-sorta announced a Bitcoin-related ASIC project in a reply to me. The business is called and is located in Poland and Marshall Islands.

I wrote many times already that SHA-2 is essentially self-testing and one of the cheapest possible to test. Anyone claiming otherwise is incompetent or deceiving.

"Cheap" does not mean it is free. You have to plan the test in the project and order it. How else can You do a "self-test" on few thousand chips from 6 engineering run wafers?

I need to quote the signature too because it looks like the author is going to solicit money himself. It may be worth to keep eye on his business.

Edit: corrected the stupid typo in the business name at the top.

Edit2: preserving the contact info from their web page.

Bitcoin: An Idea Worth Spending
Order from BFL, for Team Avalon are scammers: https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/avalon-is-unfortunately-a-scam-here-is-why-139725

If they are not, I have invited them to sue me for libel. I'm good for at least a hundred grand, which would help in them sourcing some transistors.

Yeah, probably a big fluke... Smiley

Current diff is ~3.44 million. Estimated next diff is ~3.39 million. Bitcoin Charts don't show anything out of the ordinary. I think it'll be a lil more obvious than this when ASICs do hit.

sure crazyates, but a couple hours ago it was at 3.87 million from current 2.9 million...

This happens all the time. Look at the Bitcoin Charts link he posted. In the last week, the 8-hour average varied from 2.5 to 4 million, the 24-hour average varied from 2.8 to 3.4 million, etc. This is just normal statistical variation. Not a fluke.

Personal text my ass....
Here's my two nonce:

BTCFPGA - Gone tits up, issuing refunds as fast as they can. I have received my refund.

Avalon - This is obviously a scam.

DeepBit - Failed project, possibly also a scam.

Butterfly Labs - In regular communication with their customers. If I were buying now, I'd buy with them. I have an order with them that I have not requested a refund for.

If you are going to buy an ASIC, remember it's just for the adventure/academic pursuit of participating in the Bitcoin phenomena. Do not be fooled into using Bitcoin as an investment.

Avalon is a scam? What makes you say that?

At this point, OP should just build their own ASIC.  Undecided

If I remember her right, she'd probably could do this too.

Was that thing EVER correct? Whenever I read about it, it's always spewing out tomorrow's weather or the lottery numbers or something.
I don't know about that. But when you google "Bitcoin current difficulty" and the first two results are that site and the wiki pointing to that site, I just went with it.

Current diff is 2968775. I don't think spiccioli ever said 3.4 million, that was probably your mistake.
No, he was right before. The 'estimate' link above had it around 3.7m, and then down to 3.4 when I looked again. Seems to be back down to 2.9m where it belongs.
That's my point. Spiccioli seems to be correct here. Crazyates must have gotten some numbers mixed up.
Ya I'm getting mixed up. The diff is 2.9 million. But right now, http://blockexplorer.com/q/getdifficulty says that it's 3.37 million, which is different than the 3.44 million it was telling me a few minutes ago. Something's not right. Tongue

Wait, what? You trying to say the current diff was 2.9 million a couple hours ago, and now it's 3.4 million? The current diff was calculated on the 23rd.
