OP.. Good luck with your hunt man! If you want to.. Put some of that knowledge into the Google Platform. Build apks for the market etc. Put them up for a few bucks and keep going.
I am in the process of learning more about python, java and amongst a few other things to start putting things together.

Look through previous threads, people hardly get a job and there are many who have similar skills.
There is tough competition out here.

Not necessarily. Many people may skip over while prospecting due to being able to find others willing to produce similar quality work for a cheaper price. You'd have to provide some sort of example of your previously done work.
