Get Win 10 Pro and call it a day. It rocks. Stop being hyper about small issues. Smiley

I haven't tried mint (yet)... I think the whole distro-discussion is a matter of flavour anyways, but you have to admit: debian/ubuntu is well-documented in the bitcoin community...

Check out bitcoin or litecoin on git... It has full gitian instructions on how to build the deamon and wallet for windows on your debian machine... Same goes for about any piece of software you need to compile yourself: the apt-get command for installing all dependancies is almost always in the readme-file...

Windows 10 works fine. You simply need to follow a guide online to disable some of features that invade your privacy or cause other unwanted side affects such as sharing your bandwidth for updates. If you are not technical enough to perform these steps, perhaps you can ask a friend to do them for you initially.

If you don't need Windows for gaming, you could also use a Linux distro and avoid those issues.

This is anecdotal and second hand, but after someone trying out fifty distributions, they/he or she settled on Linux Mint.  Linux Mint is by  far the most popular GNU/Linux distribution out there.  The latest version is 17.2.  You get a choice of GUIs, the most popular being Cinnamon.

As for wallets, Electrum is in the repository, that means you can use the included software manager and get this light weight wallet software.

Exactly, Mint is by far the best choise for the user. newbie or pro.

If Ubuntu isn't your thing, try Linux Mint, I don't like Ubuntu either, but something nice pops up and saves you.

It sure looks like windows 10 is a stay-away version...
It started when i found out they're using your BW to setup P2P sharing of the update files (unless you deactivate this option).

I would still suggest to stick with windows 7, or even better, switch to ubuntu or openSuse (i switched my systems at home, and i'm perfectly happy)... Offcourse, if your system includes a windows licence, it might be a wast of money to switch to linux  Smiley

I'm getting fed up with these 'new' windows versions anyway because like with Windows 8 a lot of it seems to just revolve around these gimmicky touchscreens they keep trying to sell us, I remember when Windows 8 came out they were making a particularly big deal about touch screen monitors. I'm probably one of the most pro-technology people out there but I really hate it when people make this stuff and try to market it as if it's something amazing and new but in reality we already have hardware that does their job far more efficiently.

I'm hearing all sorts of bad things about Windows 10, looks like it's the new Vista so I'm staying the hell away from it.

yeah that's damm true because the problems with the explorer didn't appeared when windows 10 got released but it appeared from the very first builds, this showed how microsoft made windows 10 release anticipated because at the end who upgraded didn't got a definite product but something more like an alpha or even a beta

Stick with Windows 7, the developers are not going to bother removing all the shitty spyware type software in Windows 10 unless there's sufficient outrage and even then they'll try to find some way to sneak it back in, if they give you a Windows 10 disc just throw it away lol.

I'm using windows 10 and if you don't know there is a software that after doing some.chamges to the host file on theory blocks all the spyware thing added in windows 10, i don't know if ot actually works or maybe not...

Windows 10 has always had issues. Perhaps call the geek squad at best buy?

the only problem that windows 10 have are that

1. explorer in the past becamed bugged and some antivirus could cause problems to it (and this one got fixed both from microsoft and the antivirus dev)
2. if you change even a single driver the license goes to hell and if you upgraded from windows 8 or 7 can became a little hell to get the license again

I would suggest you to use Windows 7 with sp1 and wait for few months before you upgrade to Windows 10 because they will probably fix most of the problems based on users/developers feedback by then.
