Hi Everyone,

I love the idea of running my S5 at home but HOLY crap! This is a loud unit and it runs hot! I was able to make the unit Wi-Fi and I can but it anywhere but simply the unit is just too loud for in house use. I can't but it in the garage because that has no air flow.. I am thinking of selling everything for $371 any ideas? I would love to keep it but I have no idea..

Do you maybe have a buddy or family member with a basement you can stash it in? (and help with the power bill).

take a look here:

also you can rise the miner on some stands and put other 2 fans under it. total of 6 fans for a quiet miner

problem will be that the controller wants its own high rpm fan

Very interesting idea to turn idea.   Problem I see is that still did not sound quiet.  I think you would have to do a mixture of low sound fans.

Since they are lower RPM then regular S5 fan it will take multiple.  At one time there was a 3d printing set to make the S5 have a enclosed case.  I wonder if you could 3d print one and add fans from bottom to top.   Use quiet and push from bottom and pull from top.    And quiet on front/ back of miner.   Only thing is that is a lot of quiet fan's so would add up on cost.

Could simply put a low max RPM/CFM fan on FAN_1 of the controller. Unless there is a way to disable the fan check. But at lowest fan speed, 2x S1 fans are very quiet.

Also OP did not miss the option to control the fan speed with the latest firmware, right?

There are videos on youtube demonstrating the loudness of the S5, it should of been assumed that it wouldn't be quiet.

You can also voltage mod the S5 or add betters fan to make it quieter.

yeah if you find a good psu for it and drop volts to 10 it will be quiet.  give me a minute for links

see if you have the correct version of s-5

this is a 350 usd psu new I grabbed 1 it will drop to 10 volts and with the correct  s-5 you can do 750gh at low power and low noise.

If you sell on forum that would be twords the high side if in US.  That is closer to a ebay price before fees taken out and shipping.

Your other option is to mod the fan.  Or even add 1 more and do push/pull with 2 quieter fans.  But it is a hot unit, you can underclock it to help.  But if ran at standard spec it just is a loud hot machine.

Thanks for the quick reply! I am thinking $371 free shipping..

Regarding the mod I am not sure if I want to put any more money into this and I don't know what to do with the heat.
