Maybe if bitcoin falls further in value there will be less and less shit coins released. I heard that before bitcoin zoomed up in value there were very few alts, perhaps because people thought there would be no money in them. By last christmas people were talking about bitcoin hitting $1 million, and the dollar signs obviously lit up in plenty of unscrupulous devs eyes.

I think it was far harder to make an alt back then as well.

As ArsTechnica pointed out in their altcoin experiment, it only takes a couple hours and $200 to launch your own alt from start to finish with no programming required.

Now? giant premines? "IPO"? NO PROBLEM... insta-listing. Dump. As long as there are so many places to "get out of a coin" not much is going to happen in the alt world until you actually have to nurture value out of a coin....

solution only buy into established alts with proper dev and community.....but that's lost on alot of the get rich types around here.

isnt that pretty much most of the people around here?

We need 5 coins for each street

and each of those 5 coins will need a street view, aerial view and satellite view coin   Cool

Yep. These guys just need to wait a few months. I am quite sure the alt coins shall start flowing once again. Wink

Fact of the matter is, bitcoin is down, so the alts follow.

Raising the awareness level of users of the damaging and wasteful behavior in a lot of recent topics has helped i think.

For one thing i don't think a lot of the more newer users that all popped up around here October / November
really truly even believed a lot of the stuff that they were warned about on random rare occasions
all i would ever see from the new guys is a knee jerk defensive reaction of what ever clone coin they were flogging
saying that anyone that criticized crypto coins were simply haters out to destroy them for no good reason.
when in reality people only complain about bad coins so all the good one have a fair chance at making it.

and when enough stories come out about some of these mass cloners i think it's started to sink in just how
unbelievably corrupt these guys are and how massive their scamming operations are.
the truth may be ugly but oh well.. facts are facts.
and it's better to clean up the mess and expose the frauds for who they are and get rid of them and move on
but in reality i think all that will do is create a lull in cloning as they regroup and change names and come back
later in full force once the complaints die down..

the mass cloners are not going anywhere they got a taste of easy money suckering gullible noobs.
primarily the ones who yammer on about Free Market and defend their coins for them and flash mine them
while saying well i don't support XYZ coin i just want to make money.. rinse repeat for every clone put out.

the guys who have pulled the worst of the worst scammy stunts before never left.. they simply change names.
they are not going anywhere, they are here to stay until the last dollar is sucked dry from the scene.

I don't think it's the number of coins that is the issue, IMO it's the number of exchanges now... i mean, 6 months ago you (as a developer) had to work to prove some value and hope it would eventually get on one of the few alt-exchanges.

It wouldn't matter how many coins there were if exchanges were discerning on some level...

i don't think the cycle can continue forever, this time is different...

someone can't expect the same shit every year

You underestimate the stupidity of the average forum user and the cunning of the average scammer.

I could probably find a quote with those exact words from 2013, 2012, etc

I think we will see thousands of coins before it slows down. I also don't think that is a bad thing

This is normal, these floods come and go just like the tide.

And as stated, there is a very strong correlation between the price trend of BTC and the amount of "lower quality" clones.

Checkout altcoincalendar.info and cryptocoincalendar.com.  It is like after April 1st the plug was pulled.  Just a few fresh turds in the bowl so far this month.  I wonder what happened? I hope it keeps happening.

Yes, first gen clones attack is slowing down.
