Not your keys, not your coins!
The forum is the place mainly for bitcoin-related things. There are some things you can see:
- In the top of the page, there are boards for bitcoin: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php
- The Welcome topic written by satoshi (a founder of bitcoin and this forum): Welcome to the new Bitcoin forum!
From those ones, it is clearly that the forum has its main purposes for bitcoin (developments, discussions, etc.). Over years, there are more things integrated in the forum, including altcoins; but core purposes of forum are always for bitcoin.

Like a normal forum, we are here to discuss and share information that are helpful for the forum members.
If noticed, there's a lot of threads in the forum, just find what your interests are and then you can ask or contribute, that defends on you.

With members here old and new, old members are expected to share valuable information for the newbie so they will find this a home to stay.

I started as newbie, I'm here because I want to know more about bitcon, and I did not fail and I really grow here.

One thing, put this in mind, IIRC, this forum was created by satoshi, the founder of bitcoin.

This is a really bizarre thread. Has OP never been on the internet before? Forums are much older than social media and much, much better for this type of purpose.

I'd love to know how much useful knowledge is lost or buried on junk sites like Facebook. Same goes for Telegram. I find it very strange that people are willing to put valuable discussion on platforms that make it a right pain up the arse to retrieve it further down the line.

What are the purpose while this forum Bitcointalk was created" and why is it different from social media's were you can just send message to person you don't know and make friends with person you don't know easily??

Bitcoin talk is much more than the trivial sites like facebook and twitter. It does contain a few chat threads, and I started one here - https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/the-jet-cash-coffee-lounge-thread-5106333 - maybe it would be useful if a few more members created such threads for general interaction, and the building of relationships.

<…> My question now is can this forum been used for something differ from cryptocurrency? Like sharing of world new, sport, political and other information that are useful to human in there day to day living...
Bitcointalk has been accompanying Bitcoin throughout its existence. As such, it serves both as a historical testimonial to extraordinary events, and as a base for discussion and the share of knowledge and experience on multiple fronts: mining, development, usage, storing, investing and so forth. Although BTC is the core centrepiece, altcoins have a lot to say when it comes to understanding the forum growth, not always to everybody’s satisfaction though.

This thread is one of the best around that helps to understand how the forum has been a testimonial (and participant) to BTC evolution: The most iconic bitcointalk threads. History on Bitcointalk.

Bitcointalk does extend to other areas further than crypto (Politics for example), but beyond that, it seems that sections such as sport, world news and such (which do fit in off-topic currently) would be a source of additional spamming and not aligned with the forum's mission.

Note: By the way, the Wikipedia link leads to information that is pretty thin and some is stale. The entry was last edited on May 2015, therefore the number of forum members indicated is obsolete (it states 464.589 while the figure is currently 2.607.621 – although many accounts are dummy Newbie accounts and inactive accounts).

The forum is divided into different numerous sections to accommodate all this, try reading avidly and you'll get answers to your questions yourself.
There is the politics and society section as well as the off topic board, those boards accept such information you requested to know about above.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=34.0
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=9.0
You can try the links out to get the both sections

Thanks for the link above, it has help me understand and also known something that's even outside my initial question. But to my own understand in contrary to the above link, is that the forum was created mainly for bitcoin mining, bitcoin trading and other more but all in reference to bitcoin.

One point is that BT is decentralized, of course there is an administrator who oversees the running of the platform, but it's partly community driven.

Not quite agree with this. the only power is on the admin and mod, even if the community ask for X thing, but they don't do anything, that won't happen. So, I'm more inclined to say that this forum (just like any other forum) is centralized atm.

why is it different from social media's were you can just send message to person you don't know and make friends with person you don't know easily??

Emm, pretty sure you can do it here too, via PM or replying to each other comments, though of course, it won't be as efficient as if you do it via Instagram/Facebook or whatever.

I know of many social media out their with most them having the same purpose and function, e.g Facebook, Twitter and many others.

Well, there are quite a number of nuances between even the popular social media platforms, and they do not serve the same purpose. And there are so many other platforms besides these with purely different layout and targets, so it's not easy to set Bitcoin apart from social platforms, as they are all quite different.

Well uhh if we go by its definition, yeahh BCT counts as social media (but I'm not gonna lie I personally don't want forums to be lump with them LMAO 🏃🏃🏃)

But I guess what sets them apart is its focus since you can still socialize in forums and discuss on Facebook and the likes

forums (e.g. BCT) = discussion-centric
FB, twitter and the likes = social-centric

Good day everyone! Please I having being thinking of something since the day I had and register account on this platform "Bitcointalk" and after my first post on I got many answers which has really lead me to know more about this forum, but I have try doing some research privately on my own still not satisfied with what am seeing so I decided to ask the question here for better understanding.

I know of many social media out their with most them having the same purpose and function, e.g Facebook, Twitter and many others. I welly understand that those social media was created to reach out with friends, family, posting of advert/marketing and also to catch fun at our free time which make it more generous useful to people and companies.

Haven noticed that Bitcointalk look different and has different rules from those above mentioned social media, I will glad to know "What are the purpose while this forum Bitcointalk was created" and why is it different from social media's were you can just send message to person you don't know and make friends with person you don't know easily??
