Quite appalling. I learnt the hard way when I woke up one morning to see my BTC alpha account hacked. Luckily I have zero funds there. Again, never undermine 2FA

SPOKKZ
Balina did not do himself any favors by being very open about his wealth, basically painting a target on his back for hackers wanting to get a piece of his pie.The attack took place in the middle of a stream where he was reviewing an ICO an ICO review. He was suddenly asked to sign back into his email account and discovered that he no longer had access to it.
Crazy stuff happening
He Wrote:
“This is how I think I got hacked. My college email was listed as a recovery email to my Gmail. I remember getting an email about it being compromised, and tried to follow up with my college security to get it resolved, but wasn’t able to get it handled in [a] fast manner and gave up on it thinking it was just an old email,” he wrote.

This is a very sad news and I very much sympathize with Jan. I think we all need to be very careful not to fall into the hands of scammers. Do not hurry and carefully read all the messages that come to the email.

Just like what the top says, don't make yourself an open target... when you make (or invested) huge money in crypto you better STFU for real or else the black-hats will be coming at you. Don't be such a noob to open up funky urls, and most of all you should always use encrypted emails such us protonmail. You can never go wrong with protonmail. ha ha!

standard scheme of divorce in scam projects. either hackers hacked us or killed someone else. I do not believe in all these legends at all. there is a fact of loss of money and it is not important for what reason, money can not be returned. It is necessary to move simply further.

The FASTEST and MOST SECURE Token Exchange
Should I pity him? I think No, he is the cause of his hack, He is not the only million in crypto space, even here in bitcointalk community there are members who are richer than him but they don't show off, once you start showing off your wealth to the public, you become a target. So he should deal with it and learn his lesson, if he will.

When someone makes their investments and wealth public knowledge, they become a target of hackers, phishers and people who do social engineering to obtain or reset passwords.  Not surprised he got targeted, but his second mistake was also to store so much money in a place that could be vulnerable to such an attack.  Had it not been for both of these mistakes, he would still have been okay.

better Days Ahead...
Well I am sorry to he cause it and brought upon himself. when you show off your wealth on the public, you will begin a soft target, believe me Ian is not rich than suppoman or matty the other shillers but those guys doesn't show off their wallet, you don't know how much they have got so you get target them. I believe he has learnt his lessons .

Getting hacked is a serious threat for those who are involved with cryptocurrencies.  It is best to have a low profile and to not display your wealth on social media.  I have seen the twitter post of his blockfolio snapshot which was in the millions.  There's no reason to post this information as it just makes you a target for hackers.

Until the end of time
I read the news and I was like wtf... Ian of all people, common he should have been smart to avoid the hacks, Why is he not using nano s ? even new babies in cryptos uses hardware wallet and Ian doesn't use one upon all that money he had on the those wallets? I think he is to blame for the hack.

take & Vote or Become a IoTeX Delegate!
They hacked over 2m and I am really surprised and shocked because someone like him should be using a hardware wallet, It is an opener for everyone to be careful and guide his or her wallet private key very well and never save your private keys online. I due hope they will catch the hackers.

Buy The F*cking Dip
This is why people with huge amount of money invested in cryptocurrency should stay as anonymous as they can. That is also the main use of cryptocurrency, right? Anonymity.

You can divulge your personality to the public even if you have huge money in crypto if you are confident in the security of your accounts. You should be very serious about it and have the right to be paranoid in every way. Looking at the news that the OP provided above, it sets a very good example of carelessness on a next level. Bragging things about cryptosphere can surely backfire at you in a very nasty manner. Let this be a lesson to those individuals who are "famous" and "got famous" because of crypto.  Wink

It is stupidity to display his wealth infront of viewers,he learned his lesson in a hard way and he is the only one to blame! he must be pissed right now but the loss will be unrecoverable! its clearly his fault the hacker might be checking his accounts from time to time because the timing is perfect when he is in the middle of stream it was transferred already, that is why we shouldnt be telling others how much our assets are because it is too risky ,hackers can crack anything.

Goes to show you the importance of security. Hardware wallets, anti-virus/malware programs, the use of VPNs. Every precaution should be taken to ensure the safety of your hard earned money.

you also know this but sadly crypto shiller IAN balina ignored it like a joke .
in past so many hack incidents create doubt that these are real or some insider job .
bcoz in replies some comment mentioned he saying so to save taxes .

I will never ever show my private information in public especially my email address, Hackers are genius and they can hack you easily when they know your email add exactly so better keep it safe and never show that on public and by the way how was he? Is he good?

Best not to openly say what your net worth is.  no reason to make yourself a target.

JOIN THE NEXT MEGATREND IN CRYPTO
Carelessness which is why he got hacked,he is too confident showing his assets to anonymous people in the internet,no system is safe which is why he got hacked, the hacker knows when to attack because the timing is very well when ian balina is busy on streaming the hacker has transafered the assets to his wallet,2fa couldnt be activated that is why the hacker easily compromised his account.
