Now that ICOs are so tainted with suspicion and scams what alternatives are out there for investors?

Do you think ICOs are still as innovative and as profitable as they were a couple of years ago?

Keeping the current market in mind is it worth taking risks investing via ICOs?

last ICO that i follow were give me a bad month of financial.
even the ICO reach the hardcap, it really not a guarantee that ICO can be successfull, it looks like the ICO now have a bad condition
This is true. This is why I prefer to invest in project with existing product. When they need money for improve existing business.

This is a good idea. If there is an existing business with a track record and they need funding it probably much better to invest that way than from an upstart ICO. More safer investment.

The details can be shown in every bounty thread where participantans still claim their payements even the ICO succeeded. Yes they have the bad conditions despite all what they show of great parteners and exchanges adoption.

ICOs regulation must be strictly implemented in such a way that we can filter out which of them are legitimate, dedicated and really focus on their project not just on always getting the peoples money for their own interest. ICOs are almost identical to some start-up companies who offer IPOs . To ICOs is to cryptocurrency as to IPO is to public fiat. ICO is the counterpart of IPO. In terms of ICO alternatives in crypto world, mining and trading is the absolute solution where it exist long before the ICOs came.

The high failure rate in fresh and rapidly growing spheres is a normal thing. Look at the dotcom bubble, it was waaaaay bigger that the bubble of ICO right now.

Well the days of huge ICOs are over. It seems there might be the odd exception to the rule but for many ICO investors the bubble has already burst.

If you are afraid to invest in an ICO, investors have one more option to choose, trading. There are lot of altcoins that worth investing your money than spending it in an ICo that not surely will success. Examples of these coins that worth investing are Verge, Ethereum, Litecoin. Investing in these alts will make you gain sure profit when time pass.

If you feel investing on ICO will not work better idea means you need to go with joining on bounty campaigns mate. There you need to share promotion works for them and finally you can get the tokens for working with them.
I hope you can make atleast half of the value when comparing with the token sale time value.
Check the white paper and then go with investing on any ICO projects mate.

Lack of confidence in ico because too many Ico scam and the most important role for investors should be more selective if they want to invest in ico..

If the concept really brings change and certainly worth making a place to invest maybe ico is still a trend..

In this case the market can not be predicted as accurately as possible if the bitcoin price is stable, then the altcoin price will always be green..

So if there is a lack of confidence in ICOs what would you suggest is the bet to invest in crypto projects rather than buying coins?

Initial coin offerings are one of the most profitable investments at this moment, people should invest in there if they want to make huge returns in a long term.

But, only those who have a big project and a good product are the only ones who are going to succeed in a long term.

The only alternative ICO this - IPO, there is no fraud, but there are also risks and many legal nuances.
I think I need to invest in ICO, but  this have to do it very carefully and necessarily studying projects.
i am also still optimistic with ico, but indeed we must selectif in choosing ico to invest. as it is difficult to predict a prospective ico, but i am sure with experience and evaluation will get good results

I believe that ico is still profitable depending on the project that you are investing. Yes, there's high risk in doing so but in my case I only invest small amount as we always say "invest what you can afford to lose".
You may check this thread to at least lessen the risk in investing to ICO : https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-identify-a-good-ico-to-invest-2248251 https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/how-to-spot-a-good-crypto-ico-2745317

Regarding with the alternatives and current state of market which we can see slow movement in GREEN(good thing), quick trade to some altcoins check at least the top 50 coins in cmc or invest and hold to a cheap altcoin for at least a year (of course, do a research to ensure that you are picking a good one).

If you buy potential ICOs when they are traded the price will be much lower than the ICO time. That is what worries everyone the most for today's ICO projects. Currently ICO scam is a lot, requires us to have an in-depth knowledge to analyze the project.

Purchasing during the ICO is not mandatory.  You can just wait until it is listed on an exchange and buy then.  If you're lucky, you might even end up paying less than if you bought during the ICO.  Many times, the bounty hunters will dump the tokens at almost any value and you can buy them at a bargain.

The alternative is IPO, but in this case you will have to comply with all laws, obtain the necessary licenses, pay taxes, etc.

Correct, IPOs are out of the question because of the various legal obligations involved making everything too difficult to attain.

I have recentely read an article about new ERA of ICOs. I think this idea came from vitalik, he said that investors should have control over the funds via smart contract. Those funds will be realeased through voting as soon as the team deliver their milestones, if they don't the money is returned back to investors! I think this is a great idea!

Saw this while browsing through forums, so I guess thats a good reason to stay away from every ICO if you are looking to invest a good amount. I was myself searching for various kinds of projects to invest since I have some BTC savings held from my current mining project - I thought I would just invest it somewhere so I can exchange it back to BTC once it reaches a good price. I have noticed that there is very little information about the coin/token (technically) on the description or even on their "whitepaper". Most of these ICO's just add up buzzwords in their description so that people will get the idea that it is something big.

Popular words include AI, BIG DATA etc..

Judging by this suspicious nature of most 'ICO's i refrained from investing my BTC, and decided just to HODL.

Great screenshot. In the current market case HODL is probably the best option

I think that soon everything will change and there will not be so many fraudulent ISO, the regulators paid attention to it and I am sure that they will try to do without a risky way of investment. At least, that the project team after collecting money the next day did not buy themselves lambo and the island, and work on the project. Simply, no one can look into the future and understand whether the project will be in demand in the market or not, even if its team is working on 24/7.

Any future regulation would make investing in ICOs more secure for investors but for now what alternatives would make you feel more confident if investing?

The alternative is to run a non ICO coin preferably one that does airdrops like how DeepOnion and Bitcore have done in the past 6 months.

No, not even close. They may still be innovating ideas but the execution is abysmal and hardly any project that ICOs deserves the funding.

Perhaps right now there is because we are on the cusp of a bull run, but realistically no they are an overall drain on what is happening in the cryptoworld.

If you don't want to invest on ICOs then invest on the altcoins then the chance for scam is zero but still it is risky because we can't say all the altcoins will rise like bitcoin so invest on your own risk.Or just buy bitcoin and wait for the profits to come in the long term or start altcoin mining the investment needed for that is less than the bitcoin mining.

I think ICOs still have innovation and have very high interest. Just imagine if the ICO they built has a very good project and very useful for the future and can develop a project based on cryptocurrency then it is certain that many will want to buy and become some investment.
if you have trouble finding ICO you can go to https://icobench.com/icos from there you can get some good information about ICO.

One of the alternative you can do is to stick with known altcoins that is solid and have a good track record. Coinmarketcap is also a good guide to help you choose the right altcoin that is good for you.

ICo in gernal are a beautiful innovation in world the world of bussines.
Ico enables star ups to rise money in different way other than private placement .
And on the other side ICo allows regular people to invest.

Yes it has its drawbacks but that just means that it needs to evolve.

I do not know what is on the minds of people who make negative news so many investors who do not want to invest in ico, it is very harmful to many people. for now it seems ico is still quite innovative, and when we jump into the world of crypto I think we should be ready to accept any market risks we always face.

There're some new alternative investments you can value. Some new projects are offering Smartphone Apps that generates token and have no ico or try to create a second offer. There are several altcoins that can be valued better than others if they offer Pow&Pos. So you've some alternatives on the table.

Everyone hopes to correct the situation with the ICO. As soon as the market starts to level out, then investments in ICO will become profitable again.
Although I would not count on the same profit as in 2017.
Also interested in alternatives to the existing ICO. But nothing comes to mind.
It remains only to participate in the ICO. But it is necessary to choose projects with even greater care and caution.

I agree the ICOs of 2016 and early 2017 cannot be looked at in the same way as 2018 ICOs. So for those what want to invest in crypto related businesses what investment methods are out there or would you suggest?
