ICOs is best for investment but there are 100 of Icos going on, and it is difficult to track what is legit and not legit.
I think ICOs that has forum on bitcointalk and full detail of project than you should go with that ICOs. For example
I am currently working with ICO, it seems legit because staff is very cooperative.

There are a lot of new icos nowdays and it's hard to track all of them, some maybe scam and the others is legit. I usually use coinschedule to see the list of ongoing and upcoming ico, if there's some that pique my interest, then i will start to do research from the the website, looking at the team member history, the whitepaper and the slack / telegram chat of the team. It's hard to pick a good ico nowdays because there's a lot of flippers and most ico set the cap too high that makes the demand outside the ico nonexistence.

Read the whitepaper then try to get more information from the people that are involved with the coin because they will allow people to get more interested in the coin.

The only way you can perceive whether an ICO is a scam or not, is to do your own due diligence about the project, its feasibility and most especially the team. You can never know out rightly if it is a good buy for investment or not until you do all those I mentioned.

Most people only look at the catchy graphics and gets tricked by all the whitepaper Lingua, but those behind the projects will let you know if it is worth dropping your cash for or not.

The trend with ICO's has changed a last couple of months:
- in the beginning of this year almost all the tokens went up in price
- but this autumn something's changed: we get token release and we see a huge drop in price.

For example I participated in PayPie, OmegaOne and AirToken this autumn - 1k in each.
At the moment I've lost about half of investment.
That sucks a little.

This is why I suggest using professional services from cryptofunds with good results. Just let the professionals do their job.

Here are some reliable ICOs (which are ongoing now) and they have already contributed a lot: PlayKey, Universa.
You should try the one i have been using, it is ELOPLAY. You can also try another ICO if your not convinced to join this project, but i assure to you that you never regret if you're going to join this project because it is safe, secure and reliable.

Here is my strategy for investing in ICO's...

First and foremost:
- Team
- Traction
- Idea / Concept

Team
First and foremost, I invest in people. The questions I ask are:
-  Are these individuals I can trust and share the same values with?
-  What experience does the team have in this space and is it relative to the problem they are solving?
-  Is there specific IP that the team has that offers a competitive advantage?

Traction
Traction enables me to understand someone's passion, hustle, and results over a period of time. The question I ask here is:
-  What traction has the team achieved over the past quarter, six months, etc?
-  Is there a proof-of-concept, MVP, prototype, or live product?

Idea / Concept
It's never about the idea. It's always about the execution. Hence why this ranks lower than traction. The questions I ask are:
-  What problem does this solve?
-  Is there utility in the coin other than a means of exchange?
-  Is this an idea that I'm passionate about and care to offer value to?
-  Is the idea / concept aligned with my values?

The answers to all of these questions give me a good sense on whether or not I should invest.  While it is still possible to make money from momentum investing, I recommend everyone employing due diligence and ask the same questions above prior to making an investment.

Research is the key here. Just like any investment knowing the business, the industry and where they are going is vital. Here are a few things i look for in an ICO

- Strong team - Both in development team and also the CEO's / marketing (no point having a great team to create something, if nobody can advertsie it and push the startup in the right direction.
- Realistic vision - not aiming too high or if they do not reach their target everyone who invested will be disappointed
- Solid whitepaper - Well thought out, shows realistic goals, a strong good vision and a plan of action
- Strong social media presence - A social media that shows they are connected with everyone
- Good customer support - Shows they care, and they have invested time and money into making sure the average investor can ask questions
- Good website - A business who is willing to throw time and effort into a good website are less likely to be a scam
- finite supply - ICO's with no cap can be dangerous and can simply just damage their own coin by releasing more for more investment.
-Market they are getting involved with - Is this a new market? or a dying one? who controls the market?

Also here is an interesting article comparing ICO's with a working product vs a vision.

In today market there was so many ICO's popping out and it was already difficult to determine whoever of those ICO's is legitimate or not , you could actually eyesight a good ICO if they allocate money for there promotions , other fake ICO dont provide this so better to watch on that are , second if they are all relational and the team has a legit linkin account that's all I can say at the moment

Looking at how much new ico's we are getting right now that is a good question. One thing to say is that you cant always be 100% sure that ICO is going to work out well. You have to analyse everything regarding it and always look at it with certain degree of critique. Be the biggest critic and expect the worst, at least you wont be surprised. To be brutally honest it's all just a gamble.

Like any game on the stock exchange.

In general, I would say - don't go for ICOs Smiley risk/reward factor is different than 12-24 months ago.
A lot of ICOs have bonus programs for early investors, and a lot of them want to just make 5-10% and sell for small profit straight after hitting exchange.
If you invest in a company/token that is already established there is a bigger chance you will make more educated guess.
