learning to find more about future development and usage of an alt is the first criteria we must consider before we invest since you mention that you are willing to place some part of it into a long term much better to buy staking coin like stratis, psb and many more staking coins that will able to give you staking rewards while keeping it inside your wallet, regarding to a short term i think you can buy big project like monero , eth , waves just be vigilant to visit their thread to know much more updates.

I want to buy different types of alt coins and not just one.
I will use half for short term trading and other half as long term investment.
What will the value of this 300 USD become in 2020 ?

I think Monero is a good choice. I usually don't think of investing in alt-coins unless they are really established like Litecoin, but I think Monero has a good future ahead of it and I'll be trying to learn more about it when I get the time.
Same here beside bitcoin i would like to suggest monero since its already being used in the darknet which was previously that bitcoin is being used but now bitcoin and monero and i think this coils would really have the potential to follow bitcoins path. IMHO
Yeah Monero is a hot coin at a moment and in great demand, and price has relatively gone down in last few days so I think its the right time to invest in it as price will boost up again in coming days.

it is always different, and usually altcoins are only hot for a short period of time and after that time you should stay the hell away because it becomes too risky. like ETH which was hot for a while and now it is only risk of getting dumped at.

I would continue to be patient, if you are just joining this thread. I believe the market is looking for that next "big thing" after the debacle with eth/etc. Let's see what q4 2016/q1 2017 brings in terms of new transparent projects.

I suggest you to invest on Ethereum or bitcoin. Because i think Ethereum have a good future same as bitcoin and you can seperate your 300 USD into this 2 crytocoins to minimum the risk.

i can suggest to buy CLAM and invest it on just-dice.com, the coin is in good shape and you will get stakes while investing it on JD. as for other coins, i think ETH and XAUR is a good choice
1. A huge amount of clams are being held by dooglus and some devs. How sure are you that they won't dump?
2. Eth is dead.
3. Xaur is a good call, though.

I thing you want to ask about altcoin trading, for me recently i buy CJ, and now i hope it give me profit, so thats why i advice you, look now CJ is going best, and you make profit from it i also buy CJ coin from 3 BTC. I invest in altcoin trading more than your 300 USD.

Investment in altcoin is very volatile bcz rates of Altcoins pump and dupm daily from -5000% to +5000% so it all about luck factor that which altcoin you bought and at what price you sell it.

Why would you still take a risk in altcoin if you could just invest it into bitcoin. We know that altcoin are mostly pump and dump. But if you really want to, i would suggest ethereum.

if you are looking to buy and sell after some times then i will suggest you to buy ether and bitcoin because they are at critical stage to get a better profit .and in my openion you should hold some ether and btc atleast for 5-6 month you will surely get profit . I will use half for short term trading and other half as long term investment.
