Do you know what site you viewed or where you got the virus from? These sorts of viruses seem to have become quite popular and unfortunately bitcoin is the perfect tool for these scammers.

Check your files first. Are they encrypted? This malware could be a scam, you files might be untouched. If they are encrypted. Search on the web for stories of previous victims. Did they get their files back after they paid? Then think about your files, are they worth 3btc?  Wink

do not waste your btc,
use a backup of your files !

He won't be able to save it, if he didn't back up his files before.

i hope you have a backup of your file and folders, if you have one then just do a format(actually i would do it anyway, unless your folders contain a very important data), otherwise you are basically screwed...

Not necessarilly, if he will not succed with the cryptolocker removal tools he can try (as I said previously) with a double spend TX. In that case he should require or better ask someone here in the forum to help him with the double spend attack. For example with the use of gangsta : https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/2z7y0d/gangsta_replace_by_fee_double_spend_tool/ .

3 BTC are very hard to double spend. If you just use a single input with 3 BTC the TX would confirm without fee just fine. I would suggest (should OP follow this route) to create at least 300 inputs of 0.01 first and afterwards create a large TX including the 300 inputs. This can still fail if they just wait for a single transaction, thus its a high risk to put plenty of effort into something easily prevented.

I don't think this is worth the hassle as it very likely wont work or they wont release the code to unlock it automatically either. I feel for op but take this as a harsh reminder to keep your files backed up if you haven't already and just reformat your drive and start again. I also recommend using ubuntu  which will very likely stop you from getting these sorts of viruses.

Heres what I would do OP.
1. Try to unlock it with the links we've listed and google for some other methods.
2. Think about how valuable these files really are to you and if they are really worth $660.
3. Try the double spend that redsn0w mentioned.
4. Buy the bitcoin and pay these guys if all else fails and these files are really worth 3 BTC to you.

Do you hear the news that the computer systems are infected with ransomware (http://thehackernews.com/2015/02/cryptoware-ramsomware-bitcoin.html?m=1), no one can decrypt the virus! It depends on the importance of the files before paying to the hackers!

Before you go pay these guys, I'd advise you look around and see if there is any software that would unlock it. I doubt there is but you still should explore all of your options.

You can try Kaspersky decryptor but there is a possibility it does not have latest keys you need:

You can check here: https://noransom.kaspersky.com

I am thinking if you can send/make a double spend, maybe they didn't require 1 confirmation who knows? Can someone try and confirm (maybe also the OP)? Thanks.
