I have read that one of the options to punish Russia the United States is considering is an Iran-style financial crackdown on Russian citizens' foreign bank accounts. If this happens, expect wealthy Russians to look for a way around any restrictions.

If they'll use this instrument of punishment I am sure this will cause growing of bitcoin as an alternative to fiat money.

Yep, attempts to expropriate the assets of ultra HNI russians might bring btc (and zerocoin) into play

Second degree speculation though

If Russia will start invasion into Ukraine this could damage its economy because EU and US likely will impose sanctions.

EU will beg Russia to turn the gas&oil back on...They got them by their balls  Wink

EU & US will bark like little dogs, but in the end they will do nothing.

Bitcoin is already banned in Russia

But nobody use them in Russia or Ukraine anyway - they still in stone age =)

Hi mate,

Not really. You should check webmoney.ru. You can actually convert your rubla's, usd or euro that you handle with webmoney to bitcoin. Dirrectly in webmoney portal interface.

They to take high fees for that, and the service is not really well advertised. But that's mainly becose in Russia they use it for black market purposses as in any other controlled economy.

And as another reason to dislike their bitcoin market is becose the market is controlled by very rich pple that are really not friendly to mess up with Cheesy.
But it is actually a big market for Bitcoin.

I don't think bitcoin will be affected by a Russian attack on Ukraine.
What's the connection between the two?

When there are tension in the world, e.g. war almost starts, gold usually (at least people say so) goes up, bitcoin is quite like gold in many areas, so if russia attacks ukraine, and it will have and effect i bitcoin, it should go up a bit, but it wont be issue at all :-).

Indeed my friend but there are too many angry people around as you can see...

and from time to time some must kill someone... without it world wouldn't be the same...

Got Gas?

Ukraine (as in Kiev, not Karkhov) will eventually have to sit down and talk to Russia. No Gas= no Heat. BTC not a player in the big leagues yet.

I am not sure that Russia will attack Ukraine as it will change its status from friendly country who was like a brother to Ukraine and futhermore it may cause that Russia will lose such import markets.
