Doesn't banning bitcoin imply banning all cryptocurrencies ?
That depends a lot. Most countries like China, Iran, etc are banning bitcoin due to some of the technology behind it which makes it impossible to control (the decentralization aspect). I doubt any of these countries actually dislike the other technology like a public ledger, blockchains, etc, but they'd much rather ban the coin and make their own controlled option.

Most countries that ban bitcoin are against privacy and decentralization and lack control. Centralized coins like Ethereum aren't really threats to their financial institutions.
Why not use another crypto there are somany alt-coin out there so why wate time cloning it?
Besides even if you clone it surely it wouldn't be 1:1 ratio .
So why not jump into another alt-coin.
Well, that would be another option to take but if we have another way to make, I'll do the risk though. But it'll be cloning option.
People would love to keep on their bitcoins that of altcoins because of its profitability and being accepted in the market and so they'll do anything to makes used of them.

Good thing it won't happen in our country and we are able to use bitcoin or any crypto's freely and don't have any struggles.
Altcoins get blanketed banned when these dictatorships ban Bitcoin, they are pretty ruthless as well, not like they will care if it was a Bitcoin or litecoin, they'll toss you in prison all the same. These aren't some just equal justice systems in these places.

I mean look at China even, a conviction rate of 99.99, you think these countries give a shit if it's a clone?
It depends on their situation and what they actually do with cryptos, if they fully ban them, or if it's just bitcoin. A clone would likely be banned as well after some time, to be honest.

Look at China's great firewall as an example. They wanted to ban access to western sites, but look how easy it is for users to bypass it. Free vpn, quick 2-minute install, and the firewall is non-existent.

They won't be able to fully ban BTC now though. Countries that have "banned' bitcoin have never caught and punished people for holding it, and they haven't changed anything related to their internet services to ban them from accessing bitcoin-based services, and they have blocked nodes. Even if they did, using TOR and a VPN to avoid it is fairly easy, and bitcoin mixers can hide your address easily.

If they did ban BTC - someone should copy all the tech behind it and make a 1:1 coin to BTC, similar to Timbit's idea. One of those will get big and people will be happy to use.

There is no point cracking and stressing your brain on what is absolutely impossible, how many countries have declared their less interest in bitcoin till the extent of proposing to jail the user, but that still did not stop the citizens from using bitcoin¸which they are the ones now turning around to see how they can create their own cryptocurrency which will still be impossible.

One thing that makes bitcoin quite greater than whole lots of coins that we see in the market is because of the presence of true decentralization, this makes people really be at peace with it, so it will continue to be used even without the knowledge of government. If you create the shitcoins, is it about creating the coin or about its acceptance, who would even accept to use it from your country.

I guess even if they are saying that they are banning Bitcoin they are still the one that is truly clingy to it, I guess they are just saying such stuff in making people know that they can make it is, Is because they want total control over it.

And for OP you can not clone a representation of Bitcoin it should be the genuine thing so it can work accordingly, That is why the price of so high you can not copy and make a new one, This will surely keep the price of Bitcoin valuable because no one could ever copy it.

Just make a clone at a 1:1 ratio called "bittercoin". Then they have to re write all the dumb ass laws again when they are done, Call it a "tearto currency"

1 bittercoin = 1 bitcoin
It is not CRYpto it`s TEARto

Drinking the sweat tears of American $cam $lavery $ystem pushers.

I will trade 1 bittercoin for 1 bitcoin and vise versa for free.

Or we can call it nonsiezeablecoin, freemarkettradecoin, fuckyourbullshitlawscoin, etc etc.

Whenever they ban it, we just call it something new and transfer that 1:1 to that coin, supersupply, monay, cashash, moners, freedom (we will probably need to coin the word coin something else to).

How dumbass thinking it is!!!

No government is taking the name of bitcoin alone or categorizing bitcoin only. If I take example of Indian draft bill, they have mentioned it as "digital/virtual currency with no controlling authority". That includes the entire cryptocurrency market.

Even if a government only bans bitcoin and we take your nonsense route to save ourselves. Government can just pass an amendment to the bill and make it a law!

Banning Bitcoin means it will affect all cryptocurrency under that same country.
It will have some effect at first but eventually other coins will get stronger because people will now switch on them.

Quote
Well at this point to be honest banning Bitcoin doesn't mean it will stop its usage.
Yes it does but only to those country that banned it . while other that alllow bitcoin , the usage is still alive and active

They won't be able to stop people from using Bitcoin because there's still a lot of ways to deposit or withdraw it from an exchange.
Why not ?  If its banned on your place ,  i dont think that theres still a way to use bitcoin  . you will only make a trouble for yourself if you insist though  .

My government doesn't understand bitcoin yet, so they are relying on we the apostles of the bitcoin to learn how it works, if we don't complain of losses and fraud, they will think of maybe converting part of our foreign reserve to bitcoin. We are not going to fail our government. They can't ban what they don't understand.

I will just trade it or our local currency if they ban crypto here, it is definitely the best option or us people with no power to fight back, if you fight a government then you would be a revolutionist and that maybe great in the eyes of some people but not to the well being already. But if they only ban Bitcoin and nothing more, then there are tons of alts that are next to the top so I will just trade to what ever my desired coin is.

I do not think that if the state prohibits the use of Bitcoin, then only Bitcoin will affect the ban. Most likely, they will prohibit or restrict the circulation of the entire decentralized cryptocurrency. In any case, they will use common phrases, so the option you proposed to avoid such prohibitions is unlikely to pass. However, such prohibitions are not yet expected. While Japan and some other states prohibit the circulation of cryptocurrencies with a high level of anonymity, that is, Monero, Dash and some others. Here with these coins there is an opportunity to experiment.
At least some countries already express their dissatisfaction with cryptocurrency and generally would like to ban cryptocurrency business in the future, but they do not explain this rhetoric and do not give any examples of the fact that cryptocurrency negatively affects their national currency or their state economy.  It seems to me that behind all this lies something else.

Alternatively, you can change the name. But it is worth considering the fact that no state is able to prohibit you from buying cryptocurrency. To do this, there are many ways to circumvent the ban. At any time you can buy Bitcoin and transfer any amount of money anywhere in the world. This is the advantage of cryptocurrency.

Countries/governments aren't stupid (for the most part). I'm assuming, IF a government were to propose legislation against Bitcoin, they would do so in the fashion of wording it so other crypto currencies/clones would be included.

It wouldn't be rather difficult to iron that out through policy.

As a loyal netizen, if ever our government implemented a law about banning any bitcoin related actions, we can not do anything about but to abide in accordance to the rule. Government has a power over us but there are still VPNs to use to access bitcoin. No need to created more and more coin like bitcoin, we can do two simple things here:
  • Follow the law, leave a happy life without crypto even if it hurts.
  • Do not follow the law, find ways to access bitcoins just do not get caught up and you'll ended up in jail. Lol

Buy, sell and store real cryptocurrencies
I don't think even this is necessary .

Well they cannot ban Bitcoins , they can try to but one can easily find a million ways to again trade in it , they cannot sit at each and everyone's house and then track every single activity of theirs.
You can just make a wallet which is global , just change your country of origin of just use wallets like samourai and blue wallet where they don't even ask you for pan card and such things.
Trust me , it's just their dream , if they do , people will rebel from the sidelines and this will be worse.

I agree with you. Bitcoin is currently making waves and those complaining will definitely join later. It can't be banned worldwide. All this Boise about it will only make it more popular. As long as you have a wallet, you can bypass all those laws by changing IP and you'll be fine. Some countrieshave banned some website a d still people there still access them so what's the point.

Nice Idea but, it will not work. Actually, they are not so dumb as you think. They will ban cryptocurrency and not ONLY Bitcoin. Changing the name will not help in any way.

They are also aware that it is hard to monitor everyone's computer/tablet/mobile. Everyone knows that there are several ways to trade cryptocurrency after the Ban. But, nobody wants to take that risk.

If it gets ban then accept it and move on, rather wasting your time in a Jail. Alternatively, move to a country where it is not illegal.

Where is my ring of blades...
one of reasons why I have even bothered with bitcoin in first place was the fact that it can never be really "banned" anywhere in the world. the governments can always try to do it but they will always fail because bitcoin is the only decentralized system that can not be shut down short of shutting down the whole internet.

as for the clone question, we are already using centralized fiat, why would I want to use a centralized cryptocurrency that is controlled by the same flawed system that led to creation of bitcoin?
