As has already been said, we are immortal. Psychically, even after you die, your energy content will be bound to the cosmos.

However, consciously, if we never had the fear of death, we would not have to find ways to distract ourselves from if the first men knew this, then no, it is unlikely we would have religions in the way we do today.

We may however, have some form of cultish worship for the elders of humanity, beings who are many millenia old, and lived in both the stone ages, and the now. We would surely look up to them!

Finally found the poem. I think it's the only poem that ever made a lasting impression on me. I'd just post it here coz I really like it.

Quote
The Delicate, Plummeting Bodies

A great cry went up from the stockyards and
slaughterhouses, and Death, tired of complaint
and constant abuse, withdrew to his underground garage.
He was still young and his work was a torment.

All over, their power cut, people stalled like street cars.
Their gravity taken away, they began to float.
Without buoyancy, they began to sink.

Each person became a single darkened room. The small hand
pressed firmly against the small of their backs
was suddenly gone and people swirled to a halt
like petals fallen from a flower. Why hurry?

Why get out of bed? People got off subways,
on subways, off subways all at the same stop.

Everywhere clocks languished in antique shops
as their hands composed themselves in sleep.

Without time and decay, people grew less beautiful.

They stopped eating and began to study their feet.

They stopped sleeping and spent weeks following stray dogs.

The first to react were remnants of the church.
They falsified miracles: displayed priests posing
as corpses until finally they sneezed or grew lonely.

Then governments called special elections to choose those
to join the ranks of the volunteer dead: unhappy people
forced to sit in straight chairs for weeks at a time.
Interest soon dwindled.

Then the army seized power
and soldiers ran through the street dabbling the living
with red paint. You're dead, they said. Maybe
tomorrow, people answered, today we're just breathing:
look at the sky, look at the color of the grass.
For without Death each color had grown brighter,

At last a committee of businessmen met together,
because with Death gone money had no value.

They went to where Death was waiting in a white room,
and he sat on the floor and looked like a small boy
with pale blond hair and eyes the color of clear water.
In his lap was a red ball heavy with the absence of life.

The businessmen flattered him. We will make you king,
they said. I am king already, Death answered. We will
print your likeness on all the money of the world.
It is there already, Death answered.

We adore you and will not live without you, the businessmen said.
Death said, I will consider your offer.

How Death was restored to his people:

At first the smallest creatures began to die-
bacteria and certain insects. No one noticed.

Then fish began to float to the surface; lizards and tree toads
toppled from sun-warmed rocks. Still no one saw them.

Then birds began tumbling out of the air,
and as sunlight flickered on the blue feathers
of the jay, brown of the hawk, white of the dove,
then people lifted their heads and pointed to the sky
and from the thirsty streets cries of welcome rose up
like a net to catch the delicate and plummeting bodies.

And here's another weird question that comes up. I've read some weird questions like "would you eat humans?". The question sounds weird, but we still make it possible to eat humans. But this one is even more bizarre, the immortality will not exist, so there is no answer to this question.

if we would all live forever, would people still go to churches and pray? what would happen to faith when death is no longer a problem...?

If we were immortals, there is big probability that religions will die. But don't you think that living forever without a purpose is boring?

Immortality will lead to chaos and make life's life unbearable. If no one dies and can not kill each other from the hatred of the one who accumulates for such a long existence, it will be much worse than believing in some religion.

That's a possibility. What sort of immortality are you talking about though? "Immortal" as in being forever you and not getting sick or immortal as in completely indestructible and just keeps on regenerating a la Wolverine? I think the chance or people leaving religion would be higher with the later. It would make people seem godly compared to the mortals they used to be.

But would we be able to tolerate immortality though? I remember reading a poem somewhere. There Death got so feed up he went on exile. At first humans were exhilarated but in typical human fashion, quickly got bored. They wasted days inspecting their soles. They spent weeks following and observing stray dogs.

We'll end up like the Greek gods, petty, vain and in need of constant validation.

my question isn't if we can become immortal or not, my question is that if death stops being a problem would people still pray and worship the different religions and god knowing that they will never die.

I have gone to church lots of times with my parents, i live in a christian family, and i cannot stop noticing that the majority of people that attend to church are old people/people with drug abuse, financial problems or really old people that know that they are screwed and that they are probably going to die so based in this i know that most of humans seek for god when they are in problems and that this isn't a real faith, they just seek religion when they are going to die because they know that if they can't live well on this life, maybe in the next one they will have everything that they desire in "heaven"

Not everyone on Sunday goes to church to confess and pray. Only the followers of the Way. So whether they live forever or not? Does not depend on the church to pray. Some people do not go to church but throughout their lives they do good deeds and do much to help others.

what do you think why we should need religion if we are all immortals? I guess religion exist because in our minds we just been built of our ancient faith
and if immortal exist there's no ancient believe as they are also still living as of now.

When I was 12 years old I went to church with my brothers and friends, as everyone on my street went to church I decided to give it a try... I attended the church for a few days, I gave up the church because I did not agree with the things that Church said and did.

2 years passed and my neighbors accused me of being a sorcerer, I was only 14 years old and accused of sending spirits to kill them.

Every day they fought with my parents because they insisted that they saw me at dawn and in the dark doing satanic ritual, when in fact I was sleeping in my bedroom

Everyone on my street stopped talking to me, people ignored me, people spat on me and threw rocks at me.

This is the dark face of Christianity. You were targeted because you refused to go to the church. In my place also, the Christians use similar tactics. It is very difficult for Hindus to live in a Christian majority area.

Considering the primary reason for religions existing is to explain what happens after death... yes

People are only religious because they fear death... when you are very afraid of something, you can believe anything that comforts you

But, if nobody is afraid of death, religion would be unnecessary

I think this sort of question is one of those that can be a yes and no depending on how you think about it. On the yes side of it, the thing is that people aren't going to care about the afterlife due to the fact that you're not going to be going to the afterlife. But when you go on  the otherside of this, people are still going to want answers to the most basic of questions that normal people, aren't able to answer.

One of the biggest questions is going to be 'how did we get her' this is the question that no human can fully answer without being debunked by someone else, this is the void that religion fills in life. But overall I'll have to say that this is one of the questions that's insanely tough to answer.

I have a different view. I would love to be immortal and I think the technology would move forward much faster if we were. Think about it, all those scientists and inventors would be able to keep their work going for hundreds of years. Nothing would be forgotten and you'd be able to learn directly from people who lived hundreds of years before you.
Earth wouldn't become crowded, we'd colonize space and have underground and underwater cities in no time.

I don't think religious thought will ever go away especially considering how long it has lasted. Some of the oldest text in teh world are religious. Plus for many people it's more important than anything else in the world! Think about all those that have dedicated their lives to religious thought and practice. If they lived forever...

First of, it is "immortal", not "inmortal".

As for your question, the answer is no, it wouldn't. It is impossible to truly be immortal. Think about it. It would require someone to live literally forever. Human beings still would not be able to survive natural disasters, such as a meteor hitting Earth or earthquakes, hurricanes, etc.

Even if we could alter our DNA to stop us from aging, it would be impossible to never die due to the reason mentioned above.

immortal soul or spirit.

I had to live in the house alone for years and without no friends until the day I moved out of the other province

All these people who accused me of witchcraft were church people

Do you know what really killed my neighbors? It was AIDS that killed them

Religion blind people

Religion makes people commit atrocities

God has created death and has given everyone of us a certain amount of time to live in this earth.

Really? You were born of the love of your parents and there was nothing divine about it.

All the shit the media tell us about science and that they have found a cure which can bring us immortality are only fairy tales.

I do not know anything about immortality, but I must tell you that everyone including you should be very grateful to science

Because of science today we are here in bitcointalk, only science can solve our problems and we can only count on the aid of science

You can say that God exists, but everything you use in your day to day life has been thanks to science.

Of course religion will die

These religious fanatics go every Sunday to the church, because they believe that when they die they will go to paradise to have everything they want. the same applies to the crazy of the Muslims who are going to do terrorism thinking that in paradise they will have a good life

I love true science. Science which is clean from the dirts of the stupid theory of evolution. Any kind of other science backed up by evolutionists who tells us we come from Monkeys or from Reptiles I will never believe it until I see a Monkey becoming a man. If not then it is a lie. With this I am not saying the paradise is proven either but surely the evolution theory is made up story from the past.
