I think ASIC's will show up soon enough.. less than years but more than months Smiley

If people think there going to have an ASIC device mining@home in the next 2 weeks is dreaming in color....

I will use the money of the evil union (EU) that completely destroyed economy of my homeland! It is like stealing from government in USSR where it was a honorable thing to do.
Where are you from exactly?
It's still stealing from the community. No matter how badly the community is regulated.

"i do it because he does it too" is not a valid excuse.
Just ignore the wannabe Nazi. Tongue
It's not my goal to be Nazi or stuff like that. I'm sorry if i made you think that.
Seriously, i don't want you to stole my money.

This is what i think this thread is.
Oh, not you.

All you capitalists are investing your money in wrong places, sometimes you win, but most time you lose your money to the jews pulling the strings of market. Only gold and other precious metals are worth investement. And not a investement in a sense of "get rich by doing nothing", but as a storage of value if money is devalued or something.

The hell? That was random, thanks for the quotes. This crap is still a surprise to me.

Sounds good to me, I'm in the US.  I can't ship any GPUs, but I can start up a US based initiative.  I too essentially have free electricity.  About 20 AMPs at 120v.  So roughly 20,000 watts.  Enough to start up a small pool if need be.  I started a similar thread and got similar responses.  If you send me a PM, we can go from there.

I thought Amp x Volt = Watt ?? So 20 x 120 = 2400watt??? Or do i over see something here?? just curious..

W = V * A, but can be a little confusing after that. See : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watt#Confusion_of_watts.2C_watt-hours.2C_and_watts_per_hour

yuuup thx for that  Wink

I do think the same about it..but we will see November is also almost done still nothing out there same as oktober..

What makes you think the ASICs won't be released?  I think they make take a little longer to send out at the very most, but butterflylabs has pulled through in the past.  I don't quite understand their logic with releasing a unit for $700 that performs better than their $15,000 rig.  They are both going to be released at close times as well.

If this becomes a trend, which it looks like it is.  Then BTC will turn out to be nothing more than a hardware laundering scam where miners keep paying more money to match the difficulty.  It looks like BTC is going to have to go back to it's roots and set/get some things straight.

I don't want to see it collapse, but it needs some work.

People doubt ASICs because they are difficult to develop, and expensive. The concept that bitcoin is successful enough to drive entrepreneurs to sink hundreds of thousands, or potentially > $1M & > 1 year of professional development, into a bitcoin project, is hard to swallow (not my words, just an explanation).

could be a good explanation when we look back in to this over a year..

That said, bitcoin has always been a "scam" where people keep paying more money to match difficulty, that is inherent in the design. This is just the natural progression, CPUs started it, GPUs being faster more specialized CPUs took over, and now fully dedicated processors in the form of FPGA/ASIC are on the scene. This is the root of bitcoin, and it isn't necessarily a problem.

If it is a scam why would anybody want GPU rigs anyway. Other than to make a very cheap GPU supercomputer, which is actually very useful in academia [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hSVo4ejZ7rc], I just do not see the point.

It would be easier to ask bitcoin miner to simply ship their rigs (shipping could be paid by the interested party) to be recycle for such purpose rather than trying to justify it for bitcoin GPU mining.

Anyway, each its own.

Why on earth anybody would start a GPU mining farm these days weeks away from ASIC delivery? Consolidating existing rigs may be OK over the next few weeks or so but this is the very end of this era in my humble opinion.

Is this a scam?

did you not read the rest of the thread before posting this  Roll Eyes

Development project fully paid by European Union.

Sounds more like a government subsidy than being free.

And what you derps will do if someone announces Litecoin ASICs and start take preorders for them?

The Bitcoin ASIC is not here and will not be here for long time. Current ASIC preorders are fraud and classic confidence scam.

Probably I need to wait until everyone realizes that no ASIC is coming and then resurrect this thread.

There are at least 5 vendors for Bitcoin ASICs, one of them in China in the process of tapeout.
I can't see all of them to be scam, to be honest.

As MrTeal pointed out, Litecoin ASICs would need to compete with GPUs at what GPUs have perfected over a long period of time i.e. working with large amounts of high-bandwidth memory, while still remaining cheap to manufacture. Not likely to happen any time soon if ever.

Because of Scrypt's need for high speed memory access, it is more difficult and expensive to make a Litecoin ASIC than it is to make a Bitcoin ASIC.
