If you take anything the FBI or the American government has to say at face value then you are BLIND to how they operate...

It wouldn't surprise me if they used multiple alias's to first make him want/need these hits, then approach him as another user and offer to "take out" this person, that probably never existed.  All in an effort to make sure he is locked up for life when they do catch him.

Look at it from their perspective, do you really think they would want a 20yo computer nerd to undermine all the massive efforts and expense they go to to oppress drug use, then see him walk free in a couple of years with millions hidden away.

Once his court day came and the judge decided that the crimes he committed wouldn't even justify a couple of years, after all he only launched a website offering free trade to the world, never actually sold anything illegal himself.

No no no, that wouldn't do for the FBI, so before catching him out for the "crimes" he committed, they had to cook up some real crimes, it's called entrapment, illegal in itself but something that the American gov love to do, and do it all to often.  All this in an effort to ensure he couldn't walk free and that all the media would demonize him.

All I can say is glad i'm not american.. land of the free my ass.

The guy seems to be a egocentric maniac.

He predicted, however, that 2011, he would be “a year of prosperity and power beyond what I have ever experienced before,” adding that “Silk Road is going to become a phenomenon and at least one person will tell me about it, unknowing that I was its creator.”

It seems he kept a journal where he constantly wrote about himself. He was certainly in self love.

I am not sure he was even sincere in DPR's "ideals" or if it was just the ego speaking.

EDIT:

Add this one: http://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2013/11/feds-say-silk-road-suspects-computer-shows-he-thought-he-plotted-6-murders/

It seems the journal was to keep track of things related to the site too, but lots of entries obsessed with his power and legacy.

Jesus. It continually blows my mind how people can be so smart and yet so fucking stupid.

According to the FBI (which I find pretty hard to believe) Mr.Ullbricht ordered 6 assassinations. If by any chance he played a role in those crimes, I would strongly advice the Bitcointalk community to retract all the support offered to this guy.

wonder what his defense is. I found this laptop in the library when they busted me lol

Hahaha I've been wondering the same thing. His defense attorney seems to believe that he will get him off free. We'll see. And for the rest of the comments, the shirt is more about an ideal than the man himself or actions (murders are bad mmmmk)..... hence the mask, silk road icon, and economic ideological phrase. DPR and the silk road were figureheads of personal freedom!

That loser has no honor.
He did some great things, pretty honourable as DPR, not so much as Ross

as it stands now he's on frontpage of wired magazine, new proof that he had six serious murders planned, as well as the undercover fbi agent posing as a hitman and providing him with staged torture and murder of one of his former system administrators.
his defense is now that he isn't the Dread Pirate Roberts...
