I feel like the purpose is to stop one party from having too much control over the way that people store value.
For me, Bitcoin is a first transparent payment system that has ever existed. System that doesn't need and doesn't rely on the third parties, the same parties that are almost always centralized and by that prone to corruption, cheating and deceiving masses.
Bitcoin is the first money that belongs to the people not the creator or issuer as it's the case with traditional financial systems.

Bitcoin is a digital currency by which you can shop online, can transfer the bitcoins to anywhere and there is no need for bank. It is basically based on peer to peer environment. You can done the transaction without any middle institute like banks. Bitcoins are easy to use, transfer and free which is the main reason for their popularity.
The purpose of Bitcoin was to pump and dump. It was really good realised. So many people bought bitcoins for 1000$. And now what? When was Bitcoin price over 300$ at least? So, no, Bitcoin won't replace PayPal or any other fiat money. It can easily go down at 200$, 100$ and so on. Do you really will to invest in it?

To use it in online transaction. Very fast transaction, anonymous, low transaction fee. It will replace paypal, etc. in the near future.
In my opinion, purpose of bitcoin is to get rid of banks and bankers and become financially free.

The main purpose of bitcoin to me is to be the first decentralized currency operating independent of any central authority. I love that you can't be censored by payment processors/banks/governments refusing to cater or work with certain organizations they don't like or have been told not to work with. I also like how the government or banks cannot take your money without permission and you are in charge of your own money.

For me, it is an instrument or tool that will provide an alternative or solution to possibly solve all the mess and problems we are suffering right now caused by the weaknesses in the existing financial system. Manipulation by the rich to further enrich themselves while the poor keeps on being supressed and enslaved to point of no return. Sounds dramatic? No it's a fact.
It's basically to cut PayPal & the other payment methods crap like having to worry for 6 months about the seller if he will chargeback or not , transactions are pretty fast and low cost (too low) and basically annonymus where someone don 't need to provide his adress ,name and that kind of stuff .
and also made and still making some people rich , and for those who bought at ~1200$ or something and sold it's their fault I believe , you don't lose unless you start selling .

Freedom. No worries. No frozen funds. No chargebacks. No more waiting a working day or even a whole weekend for transactions to post in my bank account. Since I know Bitcoin I stopped using crappy services as Skrill and PayPal. It feels amazing to be boss over my money and to send/receive money instantly.
