I never personally understood as to why redeemed cas go for so much. Redeemed brass cas go for more than silver 2013 bf lealana which is nonsense. Silver > brass 24/7/365, but I guess some collectors don't see it this way.

as a note all Lealana are buyer funded - every single one of them - whether the holo says it or not.

I would prefer vintage Cas and BTCC over Lealana all day, for multiple reasons. To name a few:
- Lack of customer service by Smoothie relating to buyer funded public keys, when COA or paper key is misplaced
- Flooding S&B with "rare," unsold newer release items, or colorful firstbits for a money grab
- Smoothie not responding to messages, even relating to newer release items
- ETC
- ETC

I believe Mida on Ebay sells those redeemed items on behalf of someone else. Whoever the original owner was had a huge collection, but I do not believe it was Mida. My guess is he takes a cut on sale price and deals with potential tax burdens depending on Ebay's stance in 2024.

I’ve purchased several from Mida - many of the earlier S1 error ones that sold for approx $450 US each - haven’t been bidding recently as the ones now are selling for $1600-$1800 (although they are higher grades - mine were more MS64-65).

I recently purchase a 5BTC from him outside eBay and paid directly with BTC - no issues at all so I think he is trustworthy. Seems his supply is getting low so may only have a few more coins for sale - they were really great specimens.

To very impressive sales on eBay this week,  im very exited about the .01 Lealana sale price

Casascius sale price :  https://www.ebay.com/itm/196292516496

Lealana Sale price:  https://www.ebay.com/itm/226043006256

I have the email address of Mida on ebay... If anyone wants to connect with him and purchase outside of ebay (taxes and fees).  Do so at your own risk, as I cannot speak to the trust of the seller (although I believe trustworthy), but I can say that the email address came directly from that seller.

Mida has been moving BULK over the past few months. Huge amounts of redeemed graded CAS.

We are seeing perfect PR70 grades being a smash hit among collectors as these grades garner the largest interest and the highest financial premiums. Some collectors are going for nothing short of 70 and paying top dollar!

-----

I am thinking about starting a running thread on eBay sales in this format with my commentary to I can compile a running price history that tracks the value of certain coins over time. Let me know if this would interest you.

First data on the LEALANA grim reaper coming out. This coin first sold at stacks a bit over three weeks ago for $660.

Today, someone sniped it on eBay for $2250, pretty crazy turnaround for the seller here. The market should take notice!

In the last month on eBay I saw a (link below) 2022 Lealana 0.1 plain 1oz silver with a mintage of 200 (almost 10x the mintage  as a plain 2oz silver Reaper) PR69 sold for $1,250.   So to think of a PR70 Lealana Reaper , with the rainbow and a super low mintage of 25, to see one sell for over $2k I don’t think is that far out of the question. Plus it’s a very unique denomination, .2020 btc load amount, I think soon if they are being auctioned off loaded they will fetch a very nice premium being they load with a large amount for high-end collectors but not the new staggering amount for a 1.0 btc loaded Lealana coin, they are getting close to $100k now!  But that’s just my two cents.

and add in fomo, got tons of people willing to pay more now to hopefully get a higher flip later. Also they are selling initially for more than they used to.
I would primarily agree with this. Due to past sales of Lealana's, its speculation that they can be flipped for a high price in the future. Its the same with Kialara's, and if another Casascius coin were made it would have people out the door willing to buy just for the flip.

Makes me a little sad, as people wanting to collect dont necessarily get the coins, and its just people wanting to make a buck.

If I flip a coin I do so in order to support the habit of collecting  Wink

I like Lealana's as much as the next person, but can someone explain why the recent releases are selling for such high prices?

I understand some of the originals going for as much as they do, but the reapers and some of the rainbow coins are selling for as much as some of the original sets... Which is a little baffling to me.

The reapers in particular were sold by smoothie last year.

There is no reason as to why LEALANA coins go for "as much as they do". The fluctuations in market price are not based on anything concreate as of this point in time. The market for the coins as of now is very young and the market is attempting to find a market equilibrium but most of the value is based soley on speculation. As well as the emotions of investors and collectors.

The coins don't have much price history, as traders of these coins we are witnessing the formative years of price foundation building. Every auction held, every price realized adds to the price history of the coins so collectors can make more educated decisions.

In summery, nobody knows the value of these coins. All the collectors can do is speculate on the values until enough time has passed and enough of a concreate price foundation has been formed.

The "Grim Reaper" series is among Lealana's lowest mintage releases. Making them much more scarce than previous releases. They also come with Signed and Stamped COA's

Kaz,
Congrats, GREAT buy at $660!, worth way more IMO for the long term. Keep us posted if Stacks helps remedy COA mix up.

Heads up on currently listed 2023 Lealana Grim Reaper Gilt Rev PR on Ebay - wrong COA! Tracking backwards looks like during the last Stacks auction they accidentillay switched the Silver Rev PR and Gilt Rev PR COA's and both coins were sold with swapped COA's going un-noticed, and current owner/seller on Ebay has the Gilt Rev PR now up for sale with non-matching COA that should have been caught and corrected at Stacks before shipping. So the other coin must have been shipped to a buyer with swapped COA also (unless same person bought both). Side note - yesterday Ebay listing was $1450 or best, revised today to $2450 or best, relisted later today as an auction for starting bid of $2250. Sold in Stacks for $840.

Hey, Midwestcoinman

Thank you for catching that! I took down the auction. I will have to reach out to stacks to try to remedy the mix-up. I have been switching up the prices on it that's true. I also only paid $660 for it on stacks. I stole that coin for $660 if you ask me. Just compare that coin to the other reapers at auction. It was one of only 2 Rainbow Reapers in the auction graded PR70. The other sold for $1,320. Which is actually the coin that stacks swapped my COA with. Goes to show how comparable the two coins really are.
