This codes resemble HTML, why is HTML not use in this forum instead of bbcodes?

I'm pretty sure BBcodes were used originally on Bulletin Boards which a user dialed into via their home modem.  Well before most people switched to the internet.
I have check it on Google with the information you gave to me.
See what Google say.
Quote from: Google
BBCode is a lightweight markup language used to format messages in many Internet forum software, first introduced in 1998. The available "tags" of BBCode are usually indicated by square brackets ([ and ]) surrounding a keyword, and are parsed before being translated into HTML.[1]
1998 is not far was it HTML people where using before they discover Bbcode?
Two of them look alike one suppose serve the function. It can be that HTML is not good for forum.

@stable1usd: There are two kinds of Merits; the ones you receive and the ones you send.

For every 2 Merits you earn, you gain 1 sMerit. So looks like you've spent your first one before this post, and you'll need one more Merit to send again.

No worries though, I've sent one to noorman0 on your behalf. Smiley

I want my text to be fixed like the pictures. The pictures have a width of 800px. I want the text to have also only 800px and formatted automatically.

It can be automated only if you place images and text in the first column in the table. The width of the first column follows the length of the first word (no spaces, regardless of the position of the row). The size of the image has no effect here. So, if you want 800px for images and text, you need to write some characters without spaces in the first or last line that are the same length as 800px (eg characters █ with normal size as much as 87 chars for approximately 800px size of image), then set it to transparent color.

for example:

███████████████████████████

This sample image has been taken from the source site news.bitcoin.com where the width has been resize to 250 pixels. This is an image that symbolizes physical bitcoin which is the most popular at the moment.

can a table be fixed in size? Similarly as it is possible with pictures?
No. You can't customize table size as far as I know. You can share more on what you are loking for exactly. In that case, we may help you finding out an alternative way if possible.

...

Sadly, No. I don't want to see an old date, but thanks for repeating that.

Quote

Yes, that's what I am after, thanks.

As you can understand by doing
Code:
[time]0[/time]
>January 01, 1970, 12:00:00 AM
the unix time value is the number of seconds since 1-1-1970 0:00:00 UTC
So if you want to get its value for a later date, you just need to take the value of the unix time for today in the header of a quote, and to add 3600x24 for each day, or 3600x24x7 for each week.
eg to get the unix time value of a date in 300 days.

1589956635+300x3600x24=1589956635+300x86400=1 615 876 635‬
Code:
[time]1615876635‬[/time]

The only thing I don't know how to do is calculate the time in the first place.
You've never heard of unix time TimeLord?  Grin

No, I didn't say that - I was saying I couldn't recall the BBCode for showing the time in that format.

Quote
You can use the command date on Linux/Unix/MacOs for doing the conversion or some websites on internet.

The parameter date= in the header of message quotes is also doing the conversion here.

Yup - that's good for telling what the time was in the past - I'd appreciate a link that can calculate a given point in time in the future - the post I was referring to made mention of ending an auction at a given point in time and would show the local time, not saying GMT/PST/AEST etc and people trying to figure out what the converted time was.

It's a stop gap instead of a countdown clock via BBCODE.
As I said above you can get the unix time value of the date of a post in the header of its quote (introduced by the parameter date=)
Then if you use [time] on it you will find exactly the same date as it is displayed in your post :
[quote author=Timelord2067 link=topic=4738016.msg54459932#msg54459932 date=1589884073]
Code:
[time]1589884073[/time]
> May 19, 2020, 10:27:53 AM
So you can deduct [time] is returning dates in your local time(the one configured in your account)

And you can easily checking it by calling [time] on 0
Code:
[time]0[/time]
> January 01, 1970, 12:00:00 AM
The date returned is not the one of the Epoch date in UTC/GMT time but in your local time.

There you can convert an unix time value in a date in your local time or in GMT/UTC time (or doing the opposite ofc) https://www.epochconverter.com/

Precisely no, if the string is longer than the picture, it doesn't work :

Trim the number of letters/numerals/other being used?

It's interesting but how do you manage to use it for a table of pictures please?

The first table row/cell contains transparent text to the width (or longer) of the image being displayed.  It's not needed in other cells, for some reason the first cell looks ok when in preview mode, but gets bunched up when posted.
Precisely no, if the string is longer than the picture, it doesn't work :

abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz
So the string must have exactly the same longer as the picture. Which is not convenient at all. How to manage that?

I just read another thread that had a time code for a specific date - will see if I can find it again.  It was something like

Code:
[time]56789012345[/time]

If on android, you can use Directupload image sharer, just share your image to the app via gallery and done. Much easier than going to website and then upload.

Also, you will get markdown/bbcode/html all as direct links so no extra editing required.

That may be true, however the displayed image is flattened when displayed in a BBCode table, hence the need to force the first cell into the intended size before the image is displayed.

Helpful for when you want to refer to just one piece of bbcode, or for some usernames such as [BTC]onFIRE u=543354

Code:

instead of it being displayed as BTConFIRE

This is very useful, and it shows my lack of knowledge of the SMF bbcode dialect. Online i found a solution involving a zero width space which i tried once on this forum, it works but some moderator didn't like it. [nobbc] is cleaner, thanks.

I found by myself about nesting lists, but its good to know how to make them display numbers with the type=decimal attribute.

This may have been mentioned as I skimmed through this kinda quickly, but if not ..

Imgur.com is an easy way to get BBC for images.
1)upload imagine
2)hover curser over the top right corner of the photo and click “Get Share Links”
3)copy BBC (forum) option

Easy as that. Unfortunately (unless someone knows otherwise) you can’t get BBCode from the Imgur app, which is maddening.

What a lame question for a Sr. Member. It's pretty obvious that you were just Necro-Posting, it's impossible that you don't know if images are working since you're already a Sr. Member and you already posted images before, I've checked your recent posts. So, what's the main point of asking the quoted question again?

Some of the code shown in the post is not shown in the help guide. (Like how to insert links with text and quotes using an author - which is handy for quoting locked threads)
yeah, like the special tag list that isn't there as I mentioned above (lower-roman, upper-roman, katakana, hiragana, armenian, upper-latin, lower-latin, katakana-iroha, hiragana-iroha, cjk-ideographic , georgian, hebrew) even though it's rarely used even nobody uses it, so just think of it as additional knowledge.

and which I often see when inserting images, it's rare to use width and height properties.

Actually I have already created a thread regarding [Tips] Bulletin Board Codes(BB Codes)(more than what help menu offers), but I didn't get any pleasant comments ( I think I'm a newbie in that time) rather getting a blame from a member for creating a thread(but I didn't get demotivated and move on). So if you have time can you look at my thread and you can add more functions from it.

The thing I want to highlight is some of the senior members(most of them are very helpful including you too) demotivate the Juniors(unless they are spamming) when they trying to help other newcomers to the forum. I can see the clear difference in the way expressing other members thoughts in this thread. Actually you have done a great job "xtraelv"

Sometimes older posts are not that easy to find. I did an initial search of bitcointalk and only found a few incomplete guides. Recent topics are oftennot indexed for a while so cannot be found using google search. The main reason I created the guide is because I wanted to have something that I could direct people to that wanted to use some of the functions but don't know how they work.
I don't usually write "help guides" because I enjoy documenting the history on here and am now collaborating on some history based projects with some others and helping them to get more familiar with the BBCode.

Some of the code shown in the post is not shown in the help guide. (Like how to insert links with text and quotes using an author - which is handy for quoting locked threads)

Certain topics do attract a lot of users seeking merits  - a classic example are the many "Who is Satoshi" posts. Making a Satoshi post can attract the same negative comments.  It doesn't mean you shouldn't make one. Just make a real good one. If you are documenting a new theory - make sure you send me a PM.  Grin
Pursuer summed it up well :

I opened this topic expecting one of those poorly repeated topics talking about Satoshi for the millionth time but I was surprised to see this nice compilation of all the theories so far. it was merit worthy.

I specifically like the "Samsung Toshiba Nakamichi Motorola" thing Cheesy

There are always a lot of threads about how to use @xtraelv

I looked for them and couldn't find the threads. There were good threads with just some of the features but none with all of it explained.

It was only after I posted it that I found out from Steamtyme that it is all in the site instructions - never mind - it exists now. (I Could have spent that time finishing another project)

All of this is actually covered in the help button on the top bar along with alternatives: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post
Edit: Steamtyme beat me to it. Great.  Undecided

THX pugman just was on the way to post it, because I have done a research a few years ago as I was created a few signatures!

Nicely laid out.

Would be good to include a link to the Forum help section that covers some of this. It will help people learn to navigate and realize the forum does have most of the resources they need.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=help;page=post#bbcref

This is found under the help tab, in the top left corner of the screen, then the posting section, finally under references SMF Bulletin Board Code

I did learn something new here though about making different list formats, and tables.

Good suggestion - Done !
