I almost forgot my own personal welcome message.  Hello from Thailand.  I represent AwarenessForex which has developed the only free, non-lagging trend indicator for forex that measures price distance in real time.  I also have complete automated trading systems.  Too bad there isn't (yet) a tradable BTC/USD currency pair.  I heard about bitcoins through a privacy advocate and the more I researched, the more intrigued I became.  It's more or less like LibertyReserve, without the central authority.  It's just a matter of being able to buy/sell these things that might be a problem initially.

I live on a pittance so I'm hedging my bets. I'll wait until BFL starts rolling out the new ASIC's and take a look at the mining environment and make a decision then. My greatest concern is that between the halving of rewards for blocks, and large capital investments in ASIC's by individuals, mining will require large capital investment and be beyond the reach of hobbists like myself. On the other hand, I may get a return on my initial investment of 50% and end up with two decent gaming rigs. I know there are BLF products out there, but a cardinal rule of dealing on the internet has been not trusting dealings by wire order.

Why can't you trust any dealings by wire order?

This should be a lesson to all newbies.  Bitcoin removes the need for a trusted third party, but it does not remove the need to trust your counterparty.  If you don't do your due diliigence, you can exkpect that sooner or later you are  going to run into a con game.  I'm not saying that BFL is a con game, but I have yet to hear of anyone who has received their paid order.  If you get screwed, this is not bitcoin's fault.  It woks like cash, and trusting someone on the Interent because he has a slick website is like buying a genuine gold Swiss watch from some guy you met in an ally.  Just because it was half off, doesn't mean that you didn't get scammed.

Hi, and thanks for the reply, although I disagree that there is any lesson to be learnt from anything I wrote. If I get screwed, of course it is not bitcoins fault, and I am aware that there is a risk involved. If the investment doesn't pay off, I have only invested money I was prepared to lose (now there is a lesson Tongue ), but there are plenty of BFL products (FPGA) out in the wild right now and lots of people who can confirm this. I honestly do think BFL will deliver though. Maybe not with the exact specs they state, and most likely it will be delayed, but it seems that anyone not mining with ASIC hardware in 6 months time, will be left behind. I feel the potential reward is worth the risk, so after much consideration I placed the order.

I was really just wondering if anyone know for sure if BFL only count business days when they calculate the order queue, because if they include the weekend, it is slightly annoying to receive the wire transfer details on Friday afternoon Smiley

Hi, I'm new here.  Well, I've been following the forum for about a year, but lame n00b rule means I can't post anywhere else yet Sad

I operate btcback.com which is currently just a free Electrum (http://http://ecdsa.org/electrum/) server.  If you haven't tried Electrum yet, you should.  It's easier to use than the official client and much faster to set up or start up.  This is because it does not download the blockchain.  Instead, it relies on a server to handle the blockchain and talking to the Bitcoin network.  Your wallet/secret keys are stored on your computer and the server never has access to them.  It also has some nice features to help protect you from losing your wallet if your computer crashes.

Does your client offer mining capability?  I was reading that CPU mining isn't too effective, but I would like the opportunity to do so if I choose.

Hi there!

I'm an IT technician from Norway who just recently got hooked on the idea of BTC and I'm looking to learn more from all of you good people on this forum. Eventually I will be trading and investing, but so far I have only been mining. In the last few weeks I have been able to set up a rig that is currently mining at 2.6 Gh/s. I'm very excited about the many possibilities of BTC, and hope to be able to use this forum as an asset to myself of course, but in time I'd like to be able to contribute positively as well Smiley

Now for my first question on this forum (which should probably be mailed to BFL, but they seem extremely busy with ASIC orders):

I read about BFL and their plans for a custom ASIC chip and figured I'd get in early. I ordered som units like the first hour or so the order form came online and got a pretty good spot in the queue i think (1694). I had to pay with a wire transfer because I am quite new to BTC mining and just didn't have enough coins for the purchase. I just received the wire transfer instructions, and immediately authorized the transaction through my online banking system because I understand my placement in the order queue depends on when BFL actually receive the payment(minus the time it took for them to mail me the instructions). It is now friday afternoon in Norway, and I don't think the transaction will be processed until monday, so I am wondering if they count the weekend as well or only business days? If they do count the weekend, my transaction, and copnsequently my placement in the queue, will be delayed 3-5 days. I'm not too excited about that tbh. If anyone has received any clarification on this, please let me know Smiley

Regards,
Holo
