Hi everybody, new here and just learning about Bitcoin. 
Hey guys I had a few questions about bitcoins and thought I'd come here. Bitcoins are interesting yet confusing, although I'm sure I'll figure things out over time, I just need to find the right place to ask a few questions :p
I'm a computer science grad student. My interests are assembly (x86), C/C++, GNU/Linux, CPU architecture, hobbyist OS development, OpenGL, game development, democoding, electronics and retro gaming.
I have now spent several hours trying to compile bitcoin, still without it working. This makes me quite sad. In one of my cryptography classes several years ago I was introduced to the concept of "digital cash" (primarily the mathematics thereof), but I will admit that I didn't know it was actually implemented like this prior to seeing the recent Slashdot article. So I thought I would just try it for myself -- too bad I'm spending so much time just trying to compile the thing.

. My name is Jake Antifaev, and I'm an entrepreneur. I recently heard about Bitcoin, and was able to raffle up 10 coins. I plan on creating a gambling network, which will have multiple casino/custom games.
Hopefully I fit in, and I could use some advice for the network.

Hello, this is my first time here and wanted to figure out how to set up a worker in a pooled bitcoin mining community.
Basically you install OpenCL and get it working, then point it at your pool with login info. If you give some details about what hardware, OS, and mining software you're using I'll be happy to help you try to get it working. If you already figured all that out (it took me a very long night a few months ago, and I feel like I'm pretty good with Linux and tech things), then kudos and have fun!

Hi, I am Bart and new to this forum. Last week I started out with two rigs on deepbit.net. In total I just got my 1st BTC . Reading on this forum, I saw a webpage which showed who finished the last blocks. On that I saw slush and deepbit most. First I thought because they have to most power (workers), but on another thread I read that workers do not combine their calculations on the same block. I was thinking that solo mining was interesting, if you have the most Mhash/s power combined by more rigs, on your own bitcoind. But now I read that those rigs are not working on the same blocks. Even further, if you have 4 GPU's, all four miners on that rig are even not working on that same block. Is that correct?
Does that imply that solo mining is only interesting if your hardware has very high power per miner ? So that 2x a HD5850 ~350Mhash/s less interesting for solomining that 1x a HD5970 doing ~700Mhash/s?
Or do I have this wrong ?

I first heard about Bitcoin in a slashdot article and was inspired by how it might change the world.
I believe decentralized currency is the future, in order to make that a reality I would like to contribute to the bitcoin code.
Current banking systems are corrupt and not functioning responsibly.
We cannot continue to allow corporations to exploit the bailout system.
Economic order needs to be restored and crypto-currency seems to be the way to go.
My secondary goal here is for this to be a learning experience.
