Boon to society in that it provides convenient and sometimes affordable access to the internet and other services.
Bane in that it can be so costly to use those plans and services a month with some certain providers, although it can be mitigated to some extent through Wifi networks, downloading apps like Skype etc.
But it's still traceable to you so privacy wise a bane as well.

Yes and since phone now or mobile phones is considered to be a necessity just like food, shelter, and clothing, anyone cannot make it a day without their phones.  So basically phone is a boon.  We can talk to our loved ones even it is a thousand miles away from us in an affordable price.  Before it is really cost a lot that is why having some special someone overseas is really pain in the ass.   Bane because since mobile phones are not merely for communication but also for entertainment.  That is why some crime were made because of the obsession of social media and the like.

It is surely helpful but can also ruin your life, since mobile phone started communication in real time is easy, you can
update your friends, family or anyone, anytime and anywhere. It does a lot of things, from texting, pictures, videos and a
lot more. However, in some ways it ruined the society, just observe how people are walking facing their cell phones,
families having their supposed to be quality time while eating, but instead using their mobile phones. It made human social
behavior poor, people talk less, they spend less time talking with their family or friends.

Mobile phones have to be considered a bonus. It's so amazing that I can voice / video / text anyone almost completely around the world instantly! That concept alone would of blown people away even when landlines existed. Driving down the road and the meeting gets cancels? Just call Bob no big deal! It's truly fantastic and to be able to see loved ones literally anywhere with the internet. that's purely spectacular.

It has both foresure but I think the boom outweighs the burden. Faster communication alone has been such a blessing for so many aspects of our daily lives. From work to personal life the fact that you can call or text a coworker to make something happen is amazing. The cons are there as well though. We are an overconnected world today. I get calls from work at all hours of the day!

It can be both, depending on what you're using it for. In my case , my mobile phone helps me to contact other people about projects and etc. It also serves as a portable gadget that i can use for bitcoin, but in the case of others, they tend to use them all the time even for something that is unproductive, like taking repetitive selfies or scrolling through social media. They even prefer to use their phone instead of personally talking to their loved ones. That's why mobile phones can either have a positive or a negative impact on the user.

It's not just about mobile but depends on every technology which came into existence. The problem is people misuse the technology at the earliest rather than thinking about it's advantages.

Well without a doubt mobile phones is now considered as necessity for a person to live along with clothing, shelter, and foods.  It really makes our lives easier, from a distance of thousand miles now it seems you are neighbors.  Though, we cannot deny the fact that when there are advantages, there are also disadvantages.  Our neighbors seems like a thousand miles because we are unable to stop and communicate with them.  We have friends but not real friends.  Still, good thing that mobile phone was invented.

John F. Mitchell and Martin Cooper was the first to introduce mobile phones. He introduced Motorola in 1973, using a handset weighing c. 2 kilograms  In 1983, the DynaTAC 8000x was the first commercially available handheld mobile phone. From 1983 to 2014, worldwide mobile phone subscriptions grew to over seven billion, penetrating 100% of the global population and reaching even the bottom of the economic pyramid.

With the advent of phones you can find negative and positive effects, it all depends on how to use them. For me it's a very good thing to be in touch in any situation.

I think this can also apply to the term a sword is only dangerous depending on who wields it. We all want to make the world a better place however, some things, inventions, gadgets or whatnot also can exist to serve a sinister purpose. When we made communication faster and better we also opened the door to communication problems like what you all said but I think in the long run this beneffitted mankind greatly.

Agreed to both of you. We can't even call it a double-edged sword since that would imply it will always have a negative effect whichever way you use it. I try to think of technology like money. They offer opportunities and a wide variety of uses. Just like you can use your money as donation to charity or for buying arms to intimidate people, phones can be used to help or hurt yourself and others.

With the introduction of mobile in this world many things have become easy to connect with one and other. I think the first mobile phone was invented in the year 1973 by Motorola (if i am not wrong). From that mobile phone has become very essential in our day today life. Now a days no one will forget to take their mobile along with them.  The reason is we are living in a fast moving world where social life is centered around the mobile phones. Mobile phones are the No:1 culprit in damaging our social life and family life. People have started Texting instead of talking and visiting. There was also many debates which has happen if mobile phones are a boon or bane.

According to you, introduction of mobile phones is a boon or bane to the society???

For me introducing of mobile phones is more of a boon because it gives a lot of benefits to us. Especially in the world of communication. Now we can easily keep in touch with our love one even in abroad, we can chat or video call them through mobile fone with internet. But it can be also a bane if you abuse to use it.

It can be both, depending on the user, like any tool.

With proper use of tools, you can build yourself a house, and with those same tools, you can end up in the hospital if used incorrectly.  For those without mental discipline, it's easy to get sucked into the addictive nature of a smartphone and repetitively needing updates or social recognition.  But it can also be used to make your life more convenient, have access to the world's information, etc.  Just depends what you use it for.

Actually yes, it can be both. I had my first mobile phone way back in 1995 it was a Motorola Microtac as far as I can remember. Well its serves a good purpose on my end, business and personal wise. But sometimes when I'm in a middle of a meeting then my phone rang. LOL. For some this is really annoying. One big negative impact of cellphone is that it has somewhat affect the dynamics of human contact. Some people may not know how to interact in real life anymore, preferring just to send text message of instant message.

However, there are advantages as well, like simple forgetting you shopping list and you are already in the grocery store. A call to your home can easily solved your problem. Cell phones add convenience to our lives. You can call anyone from virtually anywhere. Because mobile phones provide a constant avenue for communication.

To those who are privacy conscious, they dont like the idea of someone eavesdropping on their conversation and spying on them, but with introduction of mobile phones, there isn't any privacy anymore especially to those with smartphones. To them it may be considered a bane.

The advantages of mobile phone technology far outweigh the disadvantages. Mobiles have changed the world's way of life. Faster and efficient communication is the key to development. On a side note, I really miss my old Motorolla Timeport 280 with an antenna. Sad

Lol, just google image'd that.  You don't really miss it haha
Reminds me of my first phone - Nokia 8130.  This was when each phone was getting smaller than the previous generation, and it was all about getting smaller and this was a "candy bar" phone.  Screen size didn't mean anything.  So I got this tiny phone only to see that when I call people, the phone doesn't even make it halfway from my ear to my mouth and it's not the most clear sounding lol.  After that, it seemed phones started getting bigger again.

Mobile phones especially the ones being produced nowadays are designed to make our life easier. We can communicate through a lot of different apps, free of charge most of them, like Whatsapp, Viber, Skype, Facebook, Messenger etc. This helps us keep in touch with our loved ones who maybe abroad, also it eases our communication in our jobs.

The only disadvantage a mobile phone has, many people know where you are ,so if you want to stay alone, to calm a bit, or just to get refugee for a few hours from this harsh world we live in, you have to turn it off.

Technology is amoral, whatever results out of it depends on the people using it. Gunpowder was used both for making fireworks and cannons. Printing press was used to print educational material and propaganda pamphlets.

The phone aspect is great. The mini computer aspect has turned many a person into a drooling zombie. It's genie that won't be going back into the bottle but I'm glad I grew up before the smartphone era. I think it's made aspects of society atrophy.

As someone who don't text or call that often anyway, I actually found the minicomputer aspect the most useful. I can get my Youtube fix during my downtime, I can check my email, I can open an exchange to check on the rates, I can make and edit documents, etc.

It really depends on how you are using it. I remember the first time phones became more widely available, people went zombie mode texting and playing Snake.  Grin Heck, there were SMS clans that took advantage of group texting promos. I've seen a lot of people cheat partners and a lot of kids born out of wedlock. And that was around 2 decades before smartphones!

True.

As a pure informational device they're miraculous. It's when the vanity and subterfuge takes root that's when they stop being healthy.
