I am interested in investing in Bitcoins, but I am not sure how to start, where to invest, how much to invest etc. I would really appreciate if someone can guide thru some basic steps for dummies to get started. I can't mine so I am interested in buying bitcoins and trading.

Thanks

The best way to get into Bitcoins right now is simply to buy them on an exchange such as BTC-E, Bitstamp, etc. Buying mining equipment right now is not a good option for someone who is new to this. You can easily end up losing a big chunk of money. At any rate, BTC has touched $1200, its current level is not the top by a long shot. I'd say start watching one or two exchanges to get a feel for the price fluctuations, put some cash on the exchange with which you are most familiar, then buy bitcoins on the dips. When everyone else is jumping out of windows and it's  lost 50% of its value, that's when to buy. Not when it's been skyrocketing in value for days in a row.

Good luck!

Ok I deposited some cash on bitstamp and bought some bitcoins is there a way to check your transaction logs? I wanna keep record of the ammount and prices I've been buying/selling for. Is that possible or I need to do it manually.

Any idea why did bitcoin drop to $690.00 now?

Chinese exchanges cannot use 3rd party payments processors anymore, so only bank wires to Chinese exchanges possible (for better monitoring)

Obviously it helps spread the FUD "China banned Bitcoin"  Smiley

oh it's the Chinese again .. they were the reason why it started dropping in the first place .. do you reckon it might go up again?

Obviously it will go up again after people realize nothing much changed.

so I reckon this is a good time to invest Smiley

Get an account on bitstamp (after you do your own investigations) or other exchange, fund your account and buy some bitcoins.

Don't invest more than you can afford to lose

I have a verified account on bitstamp, I'm waiting the money to go thru now and buy some bitcoins. Wish me good luck Smiley

Don't put all of your investments in bitcoin. But there are many exchanges available for usd/btc exchange. alternately, you could use paypal etc. to buy some alt coins and trade the alt coins for btc.

The bitcoin phenomenon, and the technological innovation that made it possible, is interesting—but for investors large and small, the more pertinent question is whether they should buy the virtual currency or avoid it.

What about gambling? Is such thing legit or a scam? Which sites can be trusted and how does that work?

There is gambling section. The biggest gambling sites are legit, I played + maked withdrawal without problems there

While BTC-e is often called shady, it does not require any identification and has lower prices than any other exchange.

This is true, but it is hard to deposit money there. But for coin trading only is very good exchange
