Yes! If the tangle is as efficient as it seems to be, then why would people pay to use the Bitcoin blockchain? Maybe it could be useful not only for the machines but for people also.
So it seems illogical to hold them now if only to spend them at a later date.
Talking about logic: Iotas can't be held. A user believes that he owns iotas and tries to transfer them, only after the transfer we can see that he indeed owned those iotas. Iotas are Schrödinger's kittens and Tangle is their box keeping them on the edge between the life and the death. This box can contain many variants of ledgers, even conflicting ones.

so you are speculating to be able to spend them in the future. you also could have bought IOTA in the exact moment that you need them.
only exception is for testing needs, because obv someone has to have access to IOTAs to share them with others so that testing is possible.
